Best Naval or Marine Corp Air Bases?

I've got to include Pendleton on this one... As great as the centralized San Diego locale is, something about North County SD does it for me. That said, when (until recently) New River, NC is your only other option its tough to think otherwise...

    USMC PLC Aviator Applicant

Its good to see fellow Cal alum on the forum... I graduated in '03 with similar stats (slightly lower PFT). Like was mentioned above, your numbers seem more than competitive, and success or failure (at least initially) will more than likely come down to timing. Your OSO should be able to give...

    USMC to 160th SOAR.

Somewhat delayed, but the HMLA community also does an exchange tour with the 160th. It open to one WTI type every few years, and is apparently quite the opportunity....

    Switch To Marine Option

Time is on your side, man... Focus on the academic and other aspects of getting into college. The rest will come with time. Do what you can to improve your conditioning, and focus on other areas that will bolster your application. PT is important, and it will never go away. At the same...

    The basics of API

Every class has a few guys that are far from natural swimmers (read: rocks)... An hour is more than enough time to slog your way through the mile. Definitely not something to lose sleep over. The stories you've undoubtedly heard (or will hear) are far worse than the real thing. This seems to...

    Vx-9 (ah1z & Uh1y)

The Combat Aircraft article was excellent. Beautiful pics! Many of OpEval pilots interviewed for the piece are flying out of HMLA/T-303 now. The're cranking Yankee students through, and one of the two Zulu models at Pendleton is slated to fly something like 30 hours through the end of the...

    USMC OCS to TBS

Tell him to jump at the opportunity to take the leave... He'll make up the days during the years spent in school. Nothing is more demoralizing than hanging around with the Mike Company types for two weeks.

    T-34 Mishap from Whiting Field

Being a former shooter, this one hits close to home... flew with the individual in question on multiple occasions. Condolences to the family and the squadron.

    HELP! 2 Weeks until PFT!

You're OSO will use the first PFT as a baseline. IF you suck, he won't be the happiest guy, but he'll work with what he has and try to get you as strong as possible scorewise by the application deadline. Stay motivated, like you seem to be, and stick to your program. Worst case scenario is...

    Uh-1y

I think that this is definitely a big part of it. Guys often think that the Huey is the way to become a trigger puller without having to deal with the "assholes" reputation that seems to follow Cobra pilots. For the bulk of the time I spent at -18, there were no skid guys in the squadron to...

    Uh-1y

Sir, You'd be surprised at the recent wish lists for winging students... The Huey spots seem to be amongst the most sought after and coveted spots these days, even prior to the introduction of the Y model. It may just appear this way on my end due to the relatively small number of spots...

    Uh-1y

For those interested... The first two UH-1Y spots for soon-to-be newly winged HT studs were handed out this week. More than one broken-hearted Yankee wannabe in the HT spaces tonight. Interesting times for Marine aviation!

Anyone ever had their tonsils out?

You should be nearing the end of your convalescence... Each week after was a definite improvement for me, and by the 4th week I felt pretty much normal. Keep up the hydration, and you'll be back to full strength before you know it. Good luck-

    college gpa

there are so many variables that come into play that its pretty difficult to assign specific weights to things such as this. A better gpa will help you, but a less-than-impressive one will not necessarily keep one from getting accepted. Its more of a big picture issue. As for college and...

    Ifs

yes... IFS is designed to determine if you have the basic skills necessary to succeed at flight school. If you show up and cant land the airplane, dont expect to move on to API and Primary. they assume that those capable of picking up a PPL have the necessary skills.

When I apply for OCS, will I find out if I got a pilot or NFO slot before I leave for OCS? Ground to Air @ TBS?

They had all those interested in picking up an air contract at TBS take the ASTB and physical well before selection time. I'm not familiar with the whole concept of being pre-qualified, but it seems that everyone interested was given ample opportunity to go for it. Like everyone has said...
