Anyone ever had their tonsils out?

Can anyone shed some light into recovery from having your tonsils removed? I feel much better, but get tired after a short walk. I have been drinking a ton of water wishing it was a beer and after a few weeks, I can't wait to get back into the cockpit. Any idea on how long I'm going to be waiting?

You should be nearing the end of your convalescence... Each week after was a definite improvement for me, and by the 4th week I felt pretty much normal. Keep up the hydration, and you'll be back to full strength before you know it. Good luck-

I got them out when I was 6 and it took me about 2-3 weeks to get up to par and another additional week to be back in top shape.

Had mine out in Corpus as well, between primary and intermediate. Hurt like hell and it took me about 2 weeks before I was med up again.

V, do I have a plane yet?

Hopefully you aren't stuck as AODO these days, that would suck.

I had mine out in September, and they wouldn't let me work out for almost a month afterwards, for fear that the scab would come off. But I did have them out Mid-September, and ran the Marine Corps Marathon at the end of October, so the recovery was all bad. My time sucked, but I ran it. You should be fine pretty soon. Have fun with that, and eat a lot of popsicles.

I've totally stood my share of AODO, but enjoy doing it because what else could I do? The worst part was waiting 3 months to see a specialist to confirm what a civilian specialist told me about needed a tonsillectomy. I have nothing against flight docs, but they thought I had stress in the plane, scared or didn't want to fly. Turns out it was none of the above. The docs scared me more than anything, but I know they're just trying to do their job.

I'm at 19 days since surgery and it's like the crapiest roller coaster ever, but I'm sucking it up. Maybe some of the wooden supports are missing. Still suffering from a sore throat, neck pain and after walking around I get sleepy tired for no reason.

I'm missing something here... Did the pressure changes affect your tonsils in flight?

Nah, I was repeatedly getting sick for no reason. Many thought I was making it up or malingering or something because there was no real clear cut diagnosis and even when you're being as honest as you can...it's tough to be heard. I really enjoy the Navy, my career and all that comes with it.
