NYT Opinion piece on DOD budget cutting

well I guess I'll play devil's advocate for a bit and say my piece in defense of the strawmen being knocked down. I won't comment on any of the specific weapons systems and/or the suggested cuts to them; I'm sure most everyone on this site has a more informed opinion re: the details than me...

hmm...well I leave a definitive answer to someone who actually knows what they're talking about, but I was in BDCP for 8 months before going abroad for 12 weeks and it wasn't a problem. Had to go through some clearance stuff but no snags on days of leave. Does leave work differently when...

1001 questions (and answers) concerning BDCP

ah the free summer. I spent my last one on a state dept. fellowship in China and the one before that interning with my congressman. I would suggest volunteering or interning with an organization that does something you love. Money, as you note, isn't really an issue so go out and work...

Michelle Rhee - America's future in her hands?

skyward, you might not like to refer people to Time, but I love citing the Atlantic. They did a piece on her a month ago. its pretty incisive and comprehensive. http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200811/michelle-rhee her administrative pedagogy seems to be the new wave.

Question Regarding Flexibility of Scheduling Classes

It easy to change your ADCP, but a tad toilsome. I suggest filling in all your elective courses with "non-technical elective." That helps a lot because you only have to plan for courses relevant to your major. Again, no big deal.

    College student thinking about enlisting

just an FYI they strongly discourage applicants for IW who do not have calc and calc based physics. I applied INTEL, IW and SWO, so my personal suggestion for a third slot would be SWO (but then what do I know). Good luck on that whole Chinese thing.

jalevy, I'm doing BDCP Intel right now. BDCP is a great deal, PM me if you want any info on the particulars of my application. Also you need to be a full time student to be in BDCP. Keep that in mind as you think about your options. It sounds like you have some reservations about that...

    Language Training

pmasters I was stuck in the "wow-spanish-is-irrelevant-trap" too, so I started taking Chinese at school. Its hard, but I'm sure you assumed that. Tones are miserably hard to master and you spend a ton of time memorizing. That said it can also be a lot of fun and what's more Chinese food is...

    THE DEBATE, round 1

It is too bad that in American politics the word "elite" is treated as a liability. Sen. McCain graduated second from the bottom of his class at the Naval...

    Joint Venezuela-Russian naval exercises

yeah the BBC link had a short video touring around the ship and it looked giant. The small size of the Russian fleet strikes me as significant. Seems as though they don't want to send too many ships too far away considering all the activity in the Black Sea and Korea.

    Joint Venezuela-Russian naval exercises

mumbles, bevo My point was merely that the US dependence on oil gives this kind of naval exercise a disproportionate relevance. Hope that clears the "WTFs" up. I was hoping this thread would focus more on Russia's role in the world, but, as we have to descended in the gutter of domestic...
