There are plenty of non-boat disassociated options that can kee you on path for DH and possibly even CO. Overseas Flag aide, VPU, Dallas, SMTI, FSU (LSRS), etc.
New research suggests beet root juice can help lower blood pressure... try it with diet and exercise.

I'm overseas and stationed on an army base (joint command). It was hard enough for me to get a flight physical done but my navy element's one and only corpsman is saying I now need to complete a Periodic Health Assessment (PHA). He's telling me this would require new vitals, new vision test...
Are there any advantages or disadvantages to getting frocked early to O-4? I have an opportunity to move into an O-4 billet soon within my command but i'm not sure how that would affect career timing (if at all), and if there are any other issues involved.
Does anyone know if it's possible to go to War College (JPME 2) as an O-4 prior to department head tour? I know Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk takes O-4s but I was looking at the National War College, Naval War College etc. because they offer Master's degrees if you're qualified. All...
I'm at a joint command doing staff work and I'm getting kinda tired of wearing NWUs. My boss is an Air Force general and he wears his flight suit from time to time and I was wondering if it was authorized for me to do the same. His reply was that I can wear it if the Navy allows it... does...
I'll pass on some advice that seemed to work for me:
1. Know your lights, limits, powersources and procedures COLD
2. Don't blow off your ground job
3. Be an active member of the wardroom
If you excel in any of those areas when you first check in, you will make a name for yourself.
can anyone shed some light on the application process? besides what they have listed on their website what are they looking for in an applicant? And how early should you apply? Thanks.
technically you are more a junior officer. when you go on midshipman cruises you should be hanging out with the j.o.'s because that's what you'll be one day.
your rank of midshipman really has no bearing on the real navy seeing as you are not leading enlisted. the enlisted see that you're...
i once had an ocs classmate DOR during primary because the recruiter told her that NFO is like 'intel officer on a plane'. Much to her chagrin it is not.
P-3 has 2 AC systems which keeps you nice and cool... however, there was one time in the persian gulf where both systems failed and our auxiliary ventilation was stuck closed... it was over 100 degrees outside... our cabin exhaust fan was still running which created negative pressure allowing...
varies by det site. obviously you'll be flying less during home cycle unless you're in that surge window. But to give you an idea... You have to make PPC by 24 months. And you need a minimum of 700 total pilot time. Take into consideration you have about 220 or so hours by the time you leave...
you'll have to do a mile swim with a flight suit on... and tread water with full flight gear for a few minutes. some other stuff to. Nothing too bad if you've been swimming your whole life but if you've never swam before, it might be a good idea to take some classes at the YMCA.
photolab agreed to do it if i bring in a blank disc. places like SEARS and other commercial photo places don't have american and navy flags.. just the cheesy backdrop.
is there some correlation between a person's affinity for hard rock / heavy metal music and a desire to serve in the Navy? I notice most of the Navy commercials play toward the headbanger crowd... myself included.
I wonder how this plays with the Navy's desire to recruit more minorities...
Are there any added tax benefits to having SGLI go to a trust instead of directly to the beneficiary? i.e. Testamentary Trusts?
Otherwise, does anyone have a good setup for a Will to minimize taxes and maximize proceeds for distribution?
'cause we're too cool for them. actually the first time I heard of P-3's I was talking to a winged ensign on OHARP who selected p-3's out of hawaii... he made it sound so cool... so all through flight school my choices were jets out of norfolk or p-3's out of hawaii. can't say i regret putting...
Deploying soon and I want to get my family something to "remember me by".
Anyone know where I can get a military-style portrait taken in the Jacksonville area?
have you considered test pilot school? by the end you'll have flown dozens of aircraft and afterwards as a test pilot i'd guess you'd be flying different platforms as well.
timex iron man. plus... with your gloves on you can't even see your watch.
The 8 day clock works pretty good unless you forget to wind it. hack.. hack.. G*d Damn it! HACK!
here it is for P-3 pipeline.. others can chime in.
NROTC 2-4 years OR OCS 13 weeks (pensacola, fl for now)
Introductory Flight Screening (IFS) 4-8 weeks
API 6 weeks (pensacola, fl)
Primary ~6 months (milton, fl or corpus christi, tx... maybe vance or moody AFB if you're unlucky, jk)...
use neumonics (sp?) to help you learn... i.e. "speed, clean, check, feather, look, lock..." it'll help you tremendously in the plane.
also, spend time to memorize notes, warnings and cautions...
no, but they can leak, torch, vibrate, overtemp, stagnate, stall, decouple, pitchlock, separate from the aircraft, fail to feather, not to mention catch on fire... oh how i miss the days of counterweights and feathering springs...
"Just push the I Believe button"
"Git 'er Done.."
"How do you think that went?" Common phrase by IP's to make students paranoid and second guess themselves.
We were sitting on a taxiway in Tampa when we found ATC did not have our return flight plan... Base Ops from the air force...
training over the water at corpus... i overheard on base frequency a couple IP's talking...
"hey, i told my stud to take us home and he's heading 090"
"maybe he lives in CUBA"
Thought I'd start a thread on common things I've heard IP's tell studs... pilot's confucianism if you will...
1. Aviate, Navigate, Communicate
2. You control the aircraft. Don't let the aircraft control you.
3. You're the PIC, you tell me.
4. Don't make excuses.
5. Never accept being off...
in regards to doing ROTC to have something to fall back on in case you don't get a pilot slot... if you go to an academy you will get a bachelors degree just like any other school. In fact, even though i didn't go to the academy I'll rank an academy education in the top tier.
consider...
