    NEWS Seahawks Sink Houthi Boats

A buddy of mine said he heard it was AGM-114 x 3. If that’s actually true, I wonder if it’s the first Navy helo engagement with that weapon.

    NEWS Seahawks Sink Houthi Boats

We engaged pirates in 2011 off the coast of Somalia while cruising on the Big E. There was a crew from a small boy that lit some dudes up that same cruise, I can’t remember what boat they were on.

Sen. Schumer gas for electric car trade in program?

Back in the early 90s my best friend had a computer that we could design cars on. Being as it was the early 90s, not a lot of options were available but we eventually found that a car with the shape of the cyber truck had the best aerodynamics. Fast forward to current day and I see the cyber...

Stupid Questions about Naval Aviation (Part 3)

You’re not incorrect that vibration can be harmful, you’re just looking at the wrong type. Turbulence is not a constant during flight, and some flights don’t feel it whatsoever. The short duration and intensity isn’t enough to cause problems. What you’re referring to is the term is ‘whole body...

    USCG MH-60T Update

A good number of these are converted HH-60Hs. All but just a few of HSC-84-85’s old aircraft are, or will be, 60T models. The cool thing is they come off the line as a zero hour aircraft.

Feds bust “ high-end brothel network” used by elected officials, military officers, others

On the Enterprise we ‘sourced’ a full box of cat 5 cable, connectors, and a crimper from the IT shop. We then proceeded to run said cable through the overheads and link all of the JO staterooms together, had a pretty great network of everything you could imagine. On the E, our eight man was...

Which platforms see the most combat in today's world?

Your best bet of employing ordnance from an airborne asset these days is by flying UAVs. If that’s what you really want, go Air Force and enjoy that conex in Cheech.

    Flight Suits and NWUs?

My favorite is white socks with the flight suit. Had some Chiefs damn near have a stroke when they saw me wearing them. One was being almost disrespectful to the point I made him pull it up on the computer in front of everyone. He quickly became very apologetic.

    Interservice Transfer

Highly unlikely you’d get approved while still under your initial service obligation. Not impossible but from what I’ve seen, not likely. You’d need to be within roughly a year of your end of obligation. You have to perform well in your current job. If you’re a turd, odds are the Marines...

    USMC Marathon

I ran it with several friends in 2003. I think my longest run was maybe 10 miles for training. I had a small bottle of ibuprofen I ran the race with and I'd take a few every few miles. Never hit the wall but when I finished my urine color was on the frowny face side of the pee color chart...

Which Branch Allows Its Officers to Fly the Most?

Depends on what you mean by most. Total hours, I would argue Army warrants. Longevity, or for the most years actually being in a cockpit, the Air Force wins. Granted, some of those later years may only be one or two flights a month, but it beats no flying at all.

    War in Israel

I agree with your statement, however you’re referencing it from our point of view. Trying to look at it from an Israeli point of view, I honestly think they don’t care about international law.

    War in Israel

I’m aware of the history, but you missed my point. I could use Lemay’s firebombing campaign instead of the nuke, but the end is the same; absolute death of every man, woman, and child. Hence why I used the term Total War. Is it possible that Israel considers this Total War and has justified...

    War in Israel

For the sake of argument, could Israel be using a similar logic to why we used the nuke on Japan? Aka, Total War?

    War in Israel

I suppose I should’ve clarified, I don’t think it’s proper to wear another country’s flag on a US uniform. State flags are good in my opinion.

    You do you.

I hope not. Wear the US flag and nothing else. I’ve always found it appalling to see another flag on a US uniform, regardless of allied status, etc.

    Flight School backed up

Flying a stabilized approach was the game when I was flying the tanker. Any deviations, especially inside the FAF, drove a go-around. This was particularly true if the weather was down to mins. I’d happily take a few knots tailwind to not have to circle at circling mins. The irony is that the...

    Marines issuing suppressors?

I had a regular EOTech and a backup flip up rear sight on my M4. Still had the regular front sight post. Worked really well. Only reason I can think of having elevated sights is for NVGs. In that picture the optic looks like it is mounted as far forward in the receiver as possible. With the...

    Will's

Due to a situation with my wife and her biological father, I had a similar discussion with a JAG. His advice was to always have a will. His take was that while there are laws that cover the process for settling an estate if no will exists, having an up to date will removes any ambiguity on what...

    USERRA Act

The involuntary part was how I’d always thought about it. Interestingly, right now in the Air Force (other branches too, I assume) guys are taking the 1-2 year career intermission, flying for whatever major they want, then coming back on active duty to pay back for the intermission. They are...

    Which watch?

Problem with that, if you bought the X-33 through Omega’s military program, the original owner never pays any service fees, forever. Interservice Transfer Denied

10 USC 8323, 1370, 8372, 8333 are the ones I can find. The gist, you have to serve 10 years commissioned and 20 years total otherwise you don’t satisfactorily serve in a commissioned role and revert to prior status. One thing I will say for the Air Force, they write out a lot of instructions...

Sending the Old Man Home: Jimmy Buffett dies at 76

I’ll talk about the flip side of the coin of people claiming too much. I interact with the veteran community fairly frequently as I ride with a veteran’s motorcycle club. One of our biggest pushes amongst the veteran community is simply filing for a claim. Not sure how or why, but a lot of guys...

    Flight School backed up

I hadn’t heard that story but it makes sense. In my case the LTs in charge of A-pool said it was an issue of the Navy not wanting to pay anymore for people to go to the various bases, which is why I offered to pay my own way. They then came back and said no to my offer so hearing your story...

Yeah, wiggle around in the seat and you can make up that .1 real easy. This was 2006 and they had just stopped allowing fit checks. As a result it seemed like they were toeing a hard line on no remeasurements.

    Flight School backed up

I was about .15 too long on my butt-knee length for the T-45. I fit everything after that fine. Solving the Navy's problems one RC squadron at a time

    Sidearms for Naval Aviators

I did my shooting qual last month, we were still using the M-9. The RSO said SecFo is all with the M17/18 but no timeline for having everyone using it. Don’t know if that’s just base specific or AF wide.

NEWS Sen Tuberville and Appointment Delays

This thread raises an interesting question (to me, at least). California has a ‘gun roster’ that limits the types and brands of guns an ordinary person, including military, can buy. Using me as an example, as a Florida resident I can drive to Florida and buy a Sig P365 from a dealer. I can’t...

NEWS Sen Tuberville and Appointment Delays

Back when cars still required stickers, in California you had to show a smog certificate to get or renew base stickers. My first duty station after commissioning was Monterey, and me showing up with an 80 CJ-7 registered in Tennessee (no smog laws), I couldn’t drive it on base. Had to go find a...
