    Multi-year Super Hornet purchase coming

Some more info: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/09/business/09boeing.html?_r=1&pagewanted=2 Sounds like Boeing is lobbying hard to extend the C-17 and Super Hornet production lines as there other businesses are getting hit hard.

    G-LOC Question

The way it was explained to me was that alpha makes the difference. Any time you pull Gs, becuase of the angle of attack the Gs are hitting you at something slightly off the z-axis. So if you get the clownjet to max corner speed at pull 7.33, youre actually getting something slightly less than...

    G-LOC Question

Absolutely no way. I know what 5 Gs feels like, and no roller coaster Ive ever been on approaches it. More like 2Gs, certainly no more than 3.

    G-LOC Question

Absolutely concur. Let me add hydration to that list as well. Being dehydrated makes your blood thicker, and its harder for your heart to get the blood where it needs to go. The only times Ive had trouble were on Tacform or ACM hops on the hot days in K-rock when you sweat a ton just walking to...

Weighty issue: Airlines to charge by the pound?

I agree, I dont see any way the airlines could pull this off. Whatever value they gain by more accurately charging passengers is going to be offset by the customers that they lose.

The Great, Constantly Changing Picture Gallery

Does any one have pictures from the latest CNATRA CQ? I couldnt find much on navy.mil, and I know there were some airwarriors out there. Pictures of 320 on the first day would be especially appreciated. :D I did find this one. Anyone know who was in 299?

Missing Air France Jet over the Atlantic ...

FYI, Drudge is reporting that another Air France flight a few days ago from Buenos Aires to Paris was diverted b/c of a bomb threat http://momento24.com/en/2009/05/27/bomb-threat-on-air-france-flight/ ...and the plot thickens...

    N.Korea nuclear test

Concur. We are stretched too this at present to start a third war. This problem is right in Chinas backyard, we need to let them take care of it. I agree with Flash on the technology/deliverability issue. Just becuase they test one nuke doesnt mean they are anywhere near putting together a...

Glad to hear that one got changed. My primary on-wing did the investigation and suggested the re-write. I always thought killing power to the landing gear indicators was asking for trouble.

    This place sucks ass.

How often does this happen? Is it a pretty safe bet if you are in the Oceana/Lemoore FRS that you stay in the same place for your first squadron? How about the Japan squadrons, do more Japan guys come from the west coast FRS or does it even matter? Just curious...

The problem you run into in a plane like the Clown Jet is that you cant pass anything from front to back. Both stud and IP need a full set of pubs. Goose meets Jet Engine

That looked more like a blade-out test to me, like they actually exploded one of the fan blades to see if the engine housing could handle the flying blade pieces. I didnt actually see any bird carcass go into the engine. Are there any professional engineers on here, what kind of test was this?

Current Meridian Gouge for Upcoming Tailhook Selectees.

Thats pretty accurate. I know a guy in Meridian that started last April the same time I did. Hes on the Weps det, Im in baby forms. Also I dont know if anyone has discussed the sim instructors. Ive heard horror stories about the Meridian sim guys, including one that told a student "he should...

Follow-up question: Is the any way the pilot could be held personally liable for this type of situation? What if there was just property damage but no one was killed? Thoughts and prayers with the family of those who died, and with the pilot. Thats a tough thing to live with.

    Navy vs Ohio State

Agreed. If Navy ever played Texas, I would still cheer for Navy, even though it would be a blowout. I still think you guys are giving Navy too much credit. Squorch is right, its going to be a replay of the 2001 GT game. It comes down to two things - size and speed. Ohio State has lots of both...

    Navy vs Ohio State

I hate to be the naysayer, but NAAA is overreaching on this one. Navy cant be competitive with a program like Ohio State. This game isnt really going to be fun for anyone. In the end its probably about money.

    THE DEBATE, round 1

    USNA vs BDCP

Absolutely In the long run, I think its a wash. IMO, Academy guys are better prepared initially since we spent 4 years full time in a military environment vice civilian college. However, that gap closes pretty quickly. Keep in mind too that if you go the Academy route, you have to start as...

    Vance for Primary??

I wasnt trying to say Vance instruction was inferior, in some ways it sounds harder. But if you go AF-style for primary, theres going to be some difficulty when you have to adapt to Navy practices/procedures. Im sure if I went to advanced in AF land I would have trouble adapting to them. But, if...
