    Meridian Dalewood Room to Rent

I'm leaving my Dalewood house for a year starting in September. I'm leaving most of my stuff there, but I'm open to making room for a student to live there while I'm gone. You can move in any time between now and September. It's a pretty nice house, ~1100 sq ft. You can live here for $300/month...

Deployment video causing heat for Enterprise Skipper

It seems to have become a trend that whenever the press picks up the trail of some supposed injustice, apparent malpractice or uncouth behavior in the military, someone HAS to be fired. This makes me wonder whether loyalty is still a two-way street in our Navy. There must be a point in the...

NAS Lemoore (Hanford) - Looking for roommate

As an update, I still have two bedrooms empty in my place. There is a sweet pool in the backyard. I'll be gone most of the time between now and July 2011, so the house won't be very busy. The place will be available for roommates until at least Sept. 2011, and possibly longer.

I think $600/month is now more in line with the current state of the market here.

    Electromagnetic Rail Gun Status?

If they bring back the battle ships, I'll be first in line to redesignate SWO. Maybe put a giant chemical laser and some rail guns on it with propulsion from an aircraft carrier.

NAS Lemoore (Hanford) - Looking for roommate

I'll be moving into this house on 30 January. A potential roommate could move in anytime after that. I forgot to mention it has a 2-car garage (I only have one car). It's located on on the end of a little street, so there is almost no traffic going by. The living room is pretty ginormous.

NAS Lemoore (Hanford) - Looking for roommate

I'm moving into a 4 BR / 2 Bath 2100 sq. ft. house and will be ready for a roommate by February. The bedrooms are pretty spacious compared to many of the houses I've seen around here. It is a newly constructed house in Hanford, within about 2 miles of the mall and Wal-Mart. It is a 20 minute...

    "Hi" Approaches

When it's case III at the boat (at night and in bad weather) we use a hi tacan of sorts. Ashore, the hi approach books each cover a larger area than the low books do, so you can get away with having less paper in the cockpit. I've never flown one except as punishment.

    Putting down a wild pig/boar

A .22 will do it, but don't use .22 hollow points... I've tried this on pigs and they just bounce off the head. Other methods include a hammer, a skid loader, or a bale mover. Take your pick.

The Great Milestone Thread (1000 traps club + Carrier milestones)

For what it's worth, the captain in question lead me to the break at the boat for my first time, so I can't help but look up to him. I thought he was a good instructor and the kind of senior leadership we could use more of in the Navy. I'm glad he got his 1000th trap. Only 974 to go for me...

    Self-confidence and flight training

I hated the idea of flying for most of the training command (thank you, USAF) and a good part of the RAG. Having a flight canceled would make my day. But I was too stubborn to quit. Flying was what I always wanted to do, and I was going to do it whether I liked it or not. All that has changed...

Super Hornet flies with most of wing gone!

This could be a good direction for the super hornet. I'm willing to bet it would fly even better with both wings removed. With inflight jettisonable wings it could be the new F-104. Sign me up.

    VANCE decision for a Marine

Obama and Gays In the Military

You assert this based on what? I would seriously like to see an objective study, if one is even possible. Were their decisions to include openly homosexual members intended to improve the ability to fight and win war, or were they intended as social programs to make people feel good? Some...

Obama and Gays In the Military

What I'm getting at is this: Would transgender people get to choose which uniform they wear and which PT standards they use? Maybe there would be a new set of unisex uniforms and a single set of PT standards for everyone.
  20. L

Obama and Gays In the Military

Something I had never thought about... What about transgender types? That might be the next issue that would come up after homosexuals are allowed to serve openly. Not to get too far ahead, but would military healthcare then pay for sex changes?

Pilot Lands On Golf Course....Son Late To Tennis Lesson

    a question about nerves.

Yeah... I don't like riding on airlines or in cars that I'm not driving either. The combination of having no control and no ejection seat is what does it. Like someone said, in flight school, your only anxiety will be about avoiding downs (and airsickness/G-LOC in my case:icon_smil). For the...

    Jets v Helos

Well, my body doesn't like G's, I'm almost 100% non-aggressive, and yet for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to ask for jets. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to fly a helicopter. It must be the most chill job in the world, like flying an ultralight or something. But then, I...

Mythbusters to take on: PLANE ON A TREADMILL!!

Blue Angels at San Francisco Fleet Week 2007

OK, so he didn't go under any bridges, but it was still the best part of the show.
  27. L

Blue Angels at San Francisco Fleet Week 2007

That picture was photoshopped. They must have moved the bridge somehow. Your logical arguments have no place in an online forum. Maybe I will believe what I want.

Blue Angels at San Francisco Fleet Week 2007

I was watching from the right side of the pass from the jet's perspective (POV 90 degrees clockwise from the video POV). From where I was it looked like he went under. This video pretty well convinces me that he went under the bridge.
  29. L

Blue Angels at San Francisco Fleet Week 2007

Yeah, well I've flown a hornet under bridges and between buildings upside down while dogfighting mig-29s on Over G Fighters. You won't hear me bragging about watching CG jets fly under a bridge on a movie. Lame.

Blue Angels at San Francisco Fleet Week 2007

Did anyone get a video of the Blue Angel solo when he kicked up the water behind his jet? That was probably the coolest part of the show. From where I was it looked like he actually flew under Golden Gate Bridge. Can anyone confirm this? If he did, I'm surprised it isn't on youtube yet.

NASA: China May Get to Moon Before U.S. Can Return

Not to derail the thread or anything, but... As we all know the warp drive will be invented in the USA. The Vulcans will meet with us, not the chicoms. Sending a few people to the moon will mean nothing when we control the entire galaxy.

Hornet VS. (Raptor) or (Sukhoi Flanker)

I think the Flanker would be hard-pressed to match the air conditioning performance of the Rhino. Aside from that, I wouldn't be surprised if the author of the Flanker v. Hornet comparison was moonlighting as a Sukhoi dealer.

    What can I do now?

For Grunt, I took math and science at a community college during my last two "high school" years. It gave me a leg up when I moved to the university. In particular, it is good to take calculus at a community college, since they don't tend to use it as a weedout course like some universities do.

As a former homeschooled kid, I take offense to that. That is about as ignorant as you can be on this subject. Annoying Pilots

Then there is the shrill call of the female pilot that violates my eardrums every now and then. Nothing like waiting your turn to key the mic when a deafening "shrieeeeek, nag nag nag, shrieeek" cuts to the front of the line. Yelling/shrieking into the mic won't make you easier to understand...

    T-Birds Select 2nd Female Pilot

According to that fighter pilot chick site, the AF has 49 active duty girl fighter pilots. They have around 3500 fighter pilots all together (1.4% chicks). The thunderchickens have 6 pilots, and 2 of them (33%) are chicks, only one of which might be considered to be hot. Hmmm... I just don't...

    What to fly... Advice?

Hey, fat chicks aren't for everyone. That is debatable. Correct me if I'm wrong, folks, but doesn't the hornet have an A/C vent right between your legs pointed precisely where it's needed most? I hope it does, because that's why I signed up.

    What to fly... Advice?

I'm not really qualified to offer advice, but that hasn't stopped anyone else... It really comes down to which airplane sounds coolest and which one has the best air conditioning. Jets sound totally sweet, and I heard that hornets have really good A/C, so guess what was first on larry's...

    Aviation/Aero Eng ??

Yes, but underachievement needs no incentive. Back to the original topic. I did the Aero E/NROTC thing and it turned me into an overworked, sickly, sleep-deprived sort of creature with no life. It can be done, but in doing so, you might miss out on the better elements of your "education."
  48. L

    Aviation/Aero Eng ??

I wonder if the Navy is thinking one step ahead of us. Maybe they don't so much want officers with engineering backgrounds as much as they want engineers with a Navy background. As in retired officers working as engineers on defense projects. Is it possible there is some perceived benefit there?

New Clue in Amelia Earhart Disappearance

For all the times I've heard about Earhart, only rarely have I heard anything of the navigator. I guess it sounds like more of a feat for a lady to keep the wings level and nose up going around the world than for a man to navigate around the world? Just curious why the story would be any more...
