How to take the next 6 years off, a.k.a, my transfer to the Air Force

I'm sure it is air frame specific but FWIW almost all the Navy IST's in the U2 program made O5. Insanebikerboy, make sure you put your leave balance on your DD214 to help the transfer of leave. It was a big fiasco for me.

Army Warrant Officer seeking Inter-Service Transfer to Naval Aviation

Another option to consider if you want to fly jets is the Air Force U2 program. I'm not sure how they handle IST's for WO's but I have heard of previous Army guys flying over there. http://www.beale.af.mil/Library/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/279960/u-2-pilot-application/

    Old vs New Retirement System

I seem to have missed something on your spread sheet on the first block of Cumulative New Pay. Why is it negative? I read the comment but it didn't make any sense. Also, your "running total in TSP" formula is off by one block. It should be $k$2 not $l$2.

    Accelerated Syllabus

There is a slight misunderstanding of how the accelerated syllabus is utilized. When we identify a stud who is eligible they simply follow the normal flow until they have meet or exceeded MIF in all areas. I can't prove the numbers but I have yet to see an accelerated stud have a poor NSS...

DET plaques...do you guys and gals still do them?

There was a pretty long thread about specifically not going with Asian Imports. We used them for all of our models and our deployment plaques. I think they have the highest quality and accuracy WRT to details in their products. Also, the girls that work the desk are hot. On the other hand...

    PRK vs Lasik

I got my PRK performed with the wavefront technology back in 2004 but it did start to degrade around 2012. Now I'm back up to about 20/40-20/60. Dry eyes have been a minor irritation, especially in the morning but never to the point where I bought eye drops or anything. The place I got it...

So full of piss and vinegar! Like the others said before you biggest chance to make the kind of changes you'd like to see will be as a div-O or even a branch O. During my Div-O tour I attended more Captains Masts than I would have liked but in all cases the CO and XO took my input on cases...

    World's 14 Best Aviation Museums

I don't think it would be worthy of original list, but another "museum" worth checking out is the Fantasy of Flight Museum in Orlando, FL. There are over 20 aircraft and they fly one every day. They also have a great aviation military history exhibit.

    Space program

I know this was brought up in another post, but it seems pertinent. Heck, it may be the closest thing we see in space from our side for awhile. In all seriousness, would any one consider this option? I presume if you do the IST to the AF there is no coming back...

    How much to Tip

As a former waiter I'd say paying me in cash is actaully a favor. I think very few people will try to "change" your credit card slip, but at the end of the night a server may "forget" to claim a portion of his/her cash tips. For that reason, if I had good service I try to tip 20% with cash...

My wife and I came back through BWI on Space A with a group from the Army who were returning from deployment. They funneled us in so that we had to go through the returning celebrations. Jacksonville P250 special

Well, ultimately I went with a Remington 870 that they had for 319 and a walther p22 for practice. I found a range that rents a couple of different sigs and almost every glock there is. I've heard so many good things about sig on this forum but the glock price tag is a bit easier to swallow...

+1 on what was said above. Sorry to see your hopes up so high and dropped. There is much to be said for re-applying even when you don't get the initial nod, so it should only be better if you were previously pro-rec'd. I'm sure that alone should bring you slightly higher up the stack. That...

This remind me of two great stories I heard when I worked up in NPTU Ballston Spa, NY. 1) A group of protesters arrived at the gate and demanded entrance into the facility to throw rice on one of the reactors for an anniversary of Hiroshima. Obviously they were denied. In response a group...
