My rig was such that I heard the music in my helmet only. I kept the walkman in my SV-2 and could easily shut it off for important evolutions (landing) or if the pilots got chatty. I had even managed to hang on to it for the first 10 or 15 years after separating....

They are rising from the ashes...at least here in SoCal. There are three within 45 minutes driving distance from my house. And a fourth much farther away.

During my time on Active Duty, these 4 ships represented one-fourth of the carrier force (16 ships in commission). Nowadays, 4 carriers would be almost HALF (only 10 carriers currently in commission or not "inactive").

At the time of principle photography, the Coast Guard didn't deploy swimmers. Those are Navy swimmers you see in the film.

Just out of boredom I clicked on Rob's link, bounced around the Naval Aviation Schools Command website, and discovered that the current CO started out in H-2's! West Coast even! Quick check of the timeline shows that we didn't cross paths, however....

I'm thinking this may be Photoshop. The shadows on the ground show the sun seem to be from a different angle than the shadows on the P-51 itself.

So water temp less than 70 means wearing wetsuits when flying over water? Sounds kinda rough. In San Diego (back in the 80's) it was 60 degrees.

But we used to wear them underneath a flightsuit....you know....for the nomex that was in it. Is that no longer the case?

I am probably showing some ignorance here, but this article is the first I have heard that the Navy is buying Ospreys for the Navy. Is this a SPECWAR thing? If so, 48 seems like a lot of aircraft to be devoted to one rather narrowly focused community.
