Even stranger update. After the OCS date debacle yesterday, my designator was changed this morning. I am now straight IW (which I did not even apply for), and maintain my original class date. Never a dull moment with the Navy.

Strange update. I was selected for SWO/IW in November 2014, issued a FINSEL in Dec 2014 with a class date of 22 March 2015. Got a call from recruiter today that says CNRC has lowered the commissioning quota for SWO/IW from 2 to 1 for FY 2015, and that my FINSEL may be revoked and I'll have to...

What about SWO/IDC or IW? I believe RuFiO said that Intel was closed until further notice, fyi...

According to the FB page there are no SWO's yet. There are some SWO/IDC folks, but we get processed as IDC, not as SWO (or so I'm told).

SWO/IW, 2x SWO/IP, 2x IW, METOC so far.

@OKI_bound I'm not sure what the March 1 class looks like, but the March 22 class already has 6 IDC duders in it per the FB group... Just an fyi.

Fair enough. I know per the FB group that there are two SWO/IP's, a SWO/OCEANO, and a straight IW in the 22 March class as well that were selected from the same board as me. Another straight Intel is going in Feb. Not sure if we got lucky, but that seems like a very reasonable turn around...

Just a heads up as far as classing up goes, I was PR-Y for SWO/IW from the Sept. 15 board, I got my FINSEL in middle December, and have a class date of 22 March. At least 4 or 5 other IDC guys from the Sept. board are also in that class. Some even made the 8 Feb. class.

The way it was explained to me, and what I read in the published regs was that you had to pin SWO and be within 6 months of 0-3 to be lat-transferred without board approval.

Rumor has it that FY15 slots are filled for intel, and that the March board will begin filling FY16 slots. The overall selection rate of the Sept. 15 IDC board was ~9%, with some designators being below 5%. Get that OAR at least 10 points higher, and cross your fingers.

Last SWO board had a 97% selection rate, but I was told you also had to have it as your #1 choice to be considered.

Shouldn't you have the option to choose if you got PR-Y for both...? I was picked up from the Sept. board for SWO-IW and my recruiter specifically told me I was PR-N for Intel and PR-Y for SWO-IW.

@NavyOffRec I've heard rumors that a lot of the SWO option intel guys end up getting re-des to their respective IDC community before shipping to OCS. In your time is there any truth to this?

I would imagine that would be the best possible thing for you to have in this situation. Someone with knowledge of the situation that isn't you giving you a recommendation.

I was formerly a PLC-er (Marine Corps. version of ROTC), and left the program to pursue the Navy route. I had a letter signed by the battalion CO at OCS that I had successfully completed my first round of training (OCS is split into 2x 6 week courses that you take with a year in between) and...

I got picked up last week for SWO-IW with a non-tech degree, 3.5 GPA, and no prior service. Had outstanding LORs and a decent OAR, plus a pretty bangin' moto statement. Hard to pick a recipe for who gets selected. Make your package as good as you can and cross your fingers.
