    GI Bill Eligibility

If you are prior-enlisted, do you have to serve for 3 yrs in order to use it? I contributed to MGIB, served 3 years as Enlisted, then went to USNA. If I get out after my MSR, am I eligible to use the old MGIB? I am also currently contributing to the $600 kicker right now. Very confused on this...

What is going on with OCS dates being moved to right?

I recently submitted my resignation to be released from active duty in May 2010, the date of my EAOS/MSR. What is the possibility I will be RIF'ed before my MSR? If that were to happen, does the Navy normally give decent prior notice in order to help the transition period?

    New GI Bill

prior enlisted USNA grad THe 2008 Bill states that people under the old MGIB will be grandfathered into the new GI Bill. It also states that Academy grads will receive the new GI Bill for three years service (minus service obligation time). What if you are prior-enlisted, are eligible for the...

    Residency/Tax Question FL/CA

Actually, you can get in-state tuition at a UC if you can prove that you went to high school in CA. It's under most registrar's homepages. I've looked this up since I am born and raised in CA but now claim FL and intend on going back to school in the future

Choice between Flying Billets in Japan or Georgia...

Hawaii has a very hi optempo. It's not pure shore duty in the traditional sense that you won't deploy. You will most likely get underway or go on IA.

Source for Academy Time not counting towards retirement

Having graduated from the boat school, I'm not sure the network actually does anything for you to secure a real job. In my opinion, the person with the most job relevant experiences and degrees will get the position. USNA is a good school but that's about it. There are plenty of good non-service...

4H Club- Hawaii Home Hunting Help

You should focus on Mililani. It's a nice clean suburbian area with lots of lush foliage. Stay away from Ewa Beach because Ft Weaver road sucks and it will take you forever to get to/from the freeway (H1). Pearl city is okay but it's crowded and kinda congested.

    Cancel USAA FL homeowners insurance

To clear up the confusion, I meant the post that jus2mch posted a link to makes sense. My OP was confusing. I'm just trying to get ideas for cheap insurance, not confuse everybody. Cheers.

    Cancel USAA FL homeowners insurance

That post makes sense. I currently have full homeowners insurance for my FL home that I'm renting out right now. Since I don't live in FL and am renting out my home, USAA said they would "most likely" cancel my policy within 1 year. Does anybody have any suggestions for cheap fire insurance...

    Cancel USAA FL homeowners insurance

Well I just received a call from USAA saying that my homeowners insurance policy will eventually be canceled since I don't live in FL anymore. Does anybody have any suggestions on decently affordable homeowners insurance in FL besides USAA?

    Intel/IW badges?

Thanks for the input. What do you think is better for a second tour if one is on the cusp of staying in or getting out? PCS afloat or a tour at the Fort? I don't know how the corporate world would view one or the other. I'm looking at the prospect of going into defense consulting with a large...

    Intel/IW badges?

So a bunch of my 1st tour colleagues at my command are trying to go to NSA/CSS next. Their reasoning is because they plan on leaving the Navy and are under the impression that having the NSA thing in their resumes will hook them up with lucrative civilian jobs. Is there any truth to this? I've...

When are you locked into the Navy?

Actually, the CO has no bearing on what happens to the SNA attrite. They just sign a piece of paper that recommends reassignment according to "the needs of the Navy." The community managers at BUPERS decide who they want in their communities. They don't know if you attrited, NPQed, or DORed...

    Assignment locations

All of those places the detailer sent you are the major commands. They're all good places to start your career. As you progress, you can be assigned pretty much anywhere in the world as well as smaller NIOCs. IW is a great community because you can pretty much be involved in every warfare aspect...

    Assignment locations

I'm a 1640 at Kunia and the command is great! It's a good place to start your IW career and besides... it's Hawaii. However, if you're one of those guys who doesn't enjoy the outdoors and the beach and just stays home all day playing warcraft, don't take a good billet away from somebody else who...

    Bachelor in PCola

Bachelor's do NOT have to live in the BOQ. All you have to do is get a "non-availability" stamp from the BOQ which is not an issue. As for rentals, try looking at http://www.myhomespot.com/index_inventory.htm I'm putting my place up for rent at the end of May. The MLS number is on that site...

    Staying ?

I'm an Academy grad and I've known people who left and moved on to do other great things. If it's not for you, it's not for you. Military service isn't for everybody and there are other ways to be happy besides flying or blowing things up. I used to be one of those narrow-minded mids who looked...

    Kunia, Hawaii

So if the morning traffic is going TO waikiki, is there a commuting problem for me going FROM waikiki to Kunia. Is there evening traffic going from Kunia to Waikiki? It appears that my working hours commute would go against traffic. Is that true? I don't mind using all my BAH for rent if it's in...

    Kunia, Hawaii

Anybody on this site have any advice on where to rent on Oahu? I'm getting stationed in Kunia this spring and am thinking about Waikiki. Ideally, I'd like to be able to walk to a surfable beach and limit my daily commute to 45 min or less. I've heard Ewa Beach is good but too military. What are...

    Staying Navy?

The reserves sound like an excellent idea in theory. However, there is the down side of being activated and interupting your civilian career and life plans. With the way the military is utilized right now (GWOT, IA's, Surges), it seems like serving in the reserves gives one a high likelihood of...

    What uniform to wear?

I read somewhere that the groom should carry his sword and wear white gloves at the reception. If that's the case, is it ok to not wear the cover since it'll mess up the groom's hair and be a nuisance all night?

My commissioning source is USNA. I've been doing ok in the program and decided to DOR around BI's for family complications.
