Lemoore Is Tough to Get On!

Isn't there a secondary security entrance on the Ops side? If not, I'm guessing there will be soon. And didn't Lemoore spend a ton of money to install those pop up barriers in the road? If nothing else... hopefully the Skipper will at least paint an SUV silhouette on the side of the jet that...

Lemoore Is Tough to Get On!

... unless you just go in the gate the wrong way. WTF?? "We have to find a way to prevent that from happening in the future". No shit? http://abc30.com/news/chp-chase-ends-in-fatal-crash-into-a-f-a-18-at-nas-lemoore/1270233/ How does a clueless driver get all the way onto the base, onto the...

No, I would say the long term career goal IS the "bigger thing", and his focus is correct. This is an impediment to getting where he wants to go. Having lived a perfect life, you may have a difficult time relating to his situation. Is there anything YOU can contribute to the thread other than...

    F-4J & F-4S NATOPS Flight Manual

Yep. I'm doing just a handful. The post-retirement career takes a lot more time, and it eats into the Airshow prep time. Yes, Brett... it is familiar. :D p.s. You should see the TF-9J manual I've got. 1 September 1960. Just not sure I want to part with it. Maybe when the F-4 sells.

Useful gifts for flight school students?

Seriously? Ha! I had no idea. I got a front seat Super Hornet hop in January and don't even remember that! Of course, it was the day the polar vortex came through and I about froze to death getting strapped in when it was 12 degrees on the ramp. I was very happy to have a glove on!

Useful gifts for flight school students?

This fingerless glove thing interests me. Such a cultural difference between Naval and AF aviation. We just don't see people do the fingerless gloves in the USAF. I tried it a few years ago when I saw my Navy friends doing it... I really didn't like it. Was glad to get a new set of gloves...

Mental decline in high-flying military pilots

Really? Tell them Huggy says hi. No future there. Nothing about the math works for this airplane as a Recce platform. As someone who has spent a good portion of his flying career encapsulated in a full pressure suit,... let me assure that "cockpit pressure" is a major issue. In fact, all of...

    Summary of NFO flight school

Thread revival... I've lost track of what the AF is doing for Nav (or is it called "CSO"?) training now. It has moved around quite a bit over the past 20 years. Mather, Randolph, P-Cola,... Are they still at P-Cola? Are they a separate training program from Navy NFO training? Is some of it...

    No-cost TDY orders

The AF never does these. I'm told the JFTR does not allow it. However, the Dept of the Navy does do this. Y'all know that better than I. For example, going cross-country in your aircraft, where the squadron will let you go only if you cover all expenses. My question: are any of you...

This^ I love the two-engine, twin-turbine, JP-8 slurpin', dual-afterburnin', supersonic bar hoppin' machine. From engine start at Beale AFB, to shut down at North Island, jet put to bed, and beer in my hand in the I-Bar... about 2+05. Does it get any better than that?

U.S. Navy Ditches ALL CAPS messages

No, you are not the only one. Now... if we can convince the FAA to leave 1973, and join 2013,... and write NOTAMS with proper lowercase usage,... and devoid of abbreviations that no one can understand, so that any pilot can figure the NOTAM out.

USAF cuts powerlines with an A-10

Well... maybe. But keep in mind that during the first Gulf War, an A-10 pilot from my base got an air-to-air kill, as did another A-10 from the NOLA Guard unit. Don't know if those 2 kills make it a "fighter",... ...but keep in mind that the F-16's didn't a single kill. Is the F-16 a "fighter"?

Honestly? Do you know anyone that's served on a demo team? "They" are not choosing this path. It is being decided in the "best interest of the Service". Whether they "want it" or not. Are you familiar with this concept? So, are they "more important"? Well, I don't know. But apparently...

    USAF Pilot wearing glasses

To answer your question: yes, it is dumb that the issue of glasses is a criteria to enter flight training. It disqualifies a number of candidates that are probably a lot more qualified than me. I'm guessing it is a hold over from decades past. I simply cheated on my commissioning eye test...

Think this Sequester thing is real

I know the Navy has done this for years. Within the last 2-3 years, I had a Finance guy point me toward the JFTR, and prove it was not allowed. Don't shoot the messenger: I'm simply told that we cannot do this in the AF. I'm not a Finance/JFTR expert, and maybe he was wrong when it comes to Dept...

Think this Sequester thing is real

I know that in the past, the Navy is much less "generous" on cross countries than the AF,... but wouldn't there still be some per diem and lodging costs that the Navy would have to pay the folks that are on TDY/TAD orders? In our case, we have terminated all TDY orders unless it is mission critical.

For the record, I'm not a member of the Strato-Shitters club. Thank you,... thank you very much. The neck seal was a mod the Shuttle crews did to the suit. We actually do have a face seal, so that the face area gets 100% O2, and the rest of the suit is ambient. You "don't smell shit" until...

Blue Angels/T-Birds grounded, er, I mean, season cancelled.

As an "outsider", this is good to know. I would say,... the "pro-military" crowd should work harder to get more positive press in support of Fleet Week. We all know "the other side" garners plenty of attention. In any case, I'm glad to hear a Bay Area native posting this.

I'm pretty sure that is not the case. They will have 11 hours per month of flying, and will utilize those hours to do PA, build maintain/relationships, etc... As for staying proficient for demos, don't expect anything until they return to El Centro.

A-7 Corsair - Cockpit entrance and Canopy Strap

Maybe in your experience, yes. I also remember on my Viper ride that it was a no-no to step on the seat. However, I currently fly 2 ejection-seat aircraft (plus 2 more civilian warbird jets on occasion), and we step on the seat in all of them. It's not "bad form" here, nor does it damage...
