Car move from Meridian to West Coast

Speaking of boondoggle,... I suppose another option is to use it for a vacation road trip,.... end up in Sacramento,... and I buy you a commercial ticket home.

FNAEB or Voluntarily Terminate Flight Status..?

OK,... my biggest surprise is how many of you know folks that have done this. I have never heard of it happening to anyone I know.

Car move from Meridian to West Coast

Problem: I have a car (Honda CRX,... well, like a car, only smaller) I just acquired. It's near Meridian. I need to get it to Sacramento, CA... Lemoore is pretty close. If anyone is interested in 1) trailering it, 2) adding it to your PCS move shipment, 3) some other option, ... let...

    This really happened

And,... what's wrong with those, junior?? Ah, yes,... I see the problem: you have to be old enough to actually LOOK like a "salty" aviator to wear them.

Salute to Operation El Doardo Canyon

Gee, Pugs... I never considered it a parochial thing, with "AF love" or "Navy love"... just a heck of an operation with lots of "aviation love". Plus, there are 2 minutes of "Navy love" in the video. I was not aware that Maj Ribas-Domenici's downing was ever figured out.

100 RAF Trainees told "Sorry, but it's just not working out"

I really hope the Dept of the Navy personnel system is not as piss poor as the USAF's. I am watching a ton of U-2 experience bailout and/or be shown the door over the course of 1 year. A lot of folks. Many want to stay, but figure it's better to find a good job with 13 months warning than...

Centennial of Naval Aviation Kick Off San Diego

Getting picked to be the announcer for CoNA was great... ... getting to actually BE THERE was a magnitude better. I'm bummed I didn't get to meet any AW's there, but I hope you heard the shoutout I gave earlier in the day. For those that didn't make it, you missed something very cool. When the...

I'll be there. Biggest flyover in the US since WWII is not something I want to miss.

Wow! An Air Force BGEN unloads in his going away speech!!!!

Col Stroud sounds like a whiny little bitch. While he beats his fighter pilot chest, denouncing all the other pussies in the military, to include RPA operators and non-rated officers, he forgets to include one other group that he should blame: his own fighter pilot culture. There are hundreds...

Commercial Pilot Certificate - Mil Comp

This is brutally simple. Call Sheppard Air (www.sheppardair.com), pay $50 for their test prep, spend 3-6 hours one afternoon reviewing it, go take the written test, go to FSDO and get your certificate. Easiest thing I've ever done that involved the gov't.

    A century of tailhook aviation

I will be there. Hope to see some of you there. Their initial hope was to get 150 aircraft. Don't know the latest plan.

    A century of tailhook aviation

I'm sure Ms' Boxer and Pelosi are in mourning, due to the fact that Naval Aviation was founded in the waters around San Francisco. Congrats on the first century, you Navy/Marine/Coastie types. :icon_zbee

I noticed that the 4 flyover a/c for the Bears-Seahawks game yesterday were F-18s

Whether we agree or not, it is perceived as a complete lapse of flight discipline. "The rules say".... The Boss was briefed that way... so why isn't it done that way? And with a 4-ship of F-22's running about $1.4B,... and a division of Super Hornets running a bunch too, leadership is...

I noticed that the 4 flyover a/c for the Bears-Seahawks game yesterday were F-18s

NSAWC/Fallon. I sure wish that was true. Unfortunately, it isn't. I have no idea how there wasn't a thread on this, but the 20 Nov flyover at Iowa's Kinnick stadium is an example. Major crucifixion going on. Check it out on youtube. There are dozens of views. I'd post a couple, but have...

Getting your name painted on squadron aircraft

USAF squadrons pretty much decide whose name goes on the jets. In our squadron, a list was made, the commander signed it, it was sent to maintenance, and the names were put on. Simple (unlike most things in the AF).

Came across this EF-10B. I knew literally nothing about this aircraft type until I researched it. First night jet-to-jet kill was with one of these (actually, the F-3D... same jet). Anyone here have time in on of these? Any good stories? VMCJ-2: what do the C and the J mean? Or is it...

A Specific FAA Military Competency Question

As I posted above, one test. Call your FSDO or Sheppard Air and ask them. Ryan, Hal: there never used to be a "Non-CL restriction" on Instructor Certificates. This was implemented because of the FAA's gnashing of teeth over military aviators getting a CFI with only Hornet, F-15, T-38, etc...

A Specific FAA Military Competency Question

What do are you talking about? If you are saying your F-18 time counts as non-CL thrust, not true. Is that what you mean by "unrestricted multi-engine time"? Example: I want go fly the OV-10 for CalFire. But they want applicants to have 400 hours of non-CL time. Now, I have an ATP for MEL and...

I seem to recall that he was the one that was "communicating" using his middle finger with the MiG. I knew the USAF Exchange guy there during the filming, Bob "Motown" Records. His stories of Wednesday night at the Miramar Club for the year or so after TG was released are epic. Renegade One...

    Naval Aviation Music

Let's say your were setting up a party, and wanted to give a tip-of-the-hat to Naval/Marine Aviation. What songs are appropriate? Instrumental stuff from WWII? Korea? Modern? Is there anything that fits the bill? Again, not hokey stuff,... honest "Naval Aviation Music".

    Mustang Crash at Reno-Stead

I was watching the whole thing unfold, and wondered how he managed to miss the runway despite starting with a lot of energy. I was standing with friend who has a whole bunch of Reno race experience, and he was downright livid that it ended up in a pile, instead of a nice landing.

    Pilot Extraordinaire: Bob Hoover

Keep in mind that Steve was literally living at Chino then. He helped tear these aircraft apart and put them back together. His level of knowledge on them was way more than most anyone with 150 hours in a T-6. Not to mention all the hangar flying he must have soaked up while doing all of...

I was stationed at RAF Alconbury for 3 years. I lived off base in St Ives. Too far for you, but there are a bunch of great villages to live in. It was the best assignment of my career. Alconbury is scaled back, but I hear the commissary and BX are still open. There used to be an American...
