    F-16 dodges SAMs

A few years back, I was stopping through Laughlin AFB for a gas and go, and was talking to some student pilots that were flying the T-38C which was about 4 years old at the time, and which has a HUD. I have extensive experience teaching student pilots in the T-38A, which does NOT have a HUD. In...

    Yuma Airshow

No, but I ate tube food between acts! HarrierDude: thanks for the compliments. It was very well organized and executed show. Many were expecting doom and gloom,...but the Friday night performers party had Fifi (the only B-29 flying in the world) and Maid in the Shade (B-25) 0n the private ramp...

    Yuma Airshow

I met Pooch today. Good dude! You know, despite the relative negativity, this is going to be a blast of an airshow. Hell... it and El Centro may be the only ones for a couple of months. BTW, bummer to hear that EC lost the Super Hornet Tac Demo today.

    Yuma Airshow

I'll put $2 down that you'll get the Blues if you don't cancel. Call me an optimist.

    Yuma Airshow

It is a lot of fun. A local airshow was exactly how I got started back in '07.
  6. HuggyU2

    Yuma Airshow

So close. Thanks, AF, for f-ing this up. At least Yuma and El Centro aren't throwing in the towel. Good on 'em.

    Hugo Chavez is dead

I'm so broken up about this, I'm going to open a bottle of Rombauer Zinfandel. Woo hoo! And fuck you, Chavez.

Will any of you be there?

    Space program

Maybe we are talking something different, but the NASA T-38's were probably Block 80 or 85, which were the last 2 blocks of T-38's produced. There was no Block 1: the earliest T38's were actually Block 20's. Attn Naval Flyers: a "Block" is like "Lot". That is your bi-lingual lesson for the...

    Space program

Just to clarify, most of the astronauts to NOT fully qualify in the T-38. Most are Mission Specialists, and they only fly in the back cockpit.

Pentagon cuts aircraft carrier presence in the Gulf due to budget

Possible 44% reduction in student SNAs ans SNFOs?

Cargo, tanker, training command,... and believe it or not, we are getting Navy and Marine pil... er, uh, 'aviators' too. Crazy, I know.
  13. HuggyU2

Possible 44% reduction in student SNAs ans SNFOs?

I do not believe it is related to the cutback in pilot production in '94, but the AF is critically short of fighter pilots, and the numbers are continuing to get worse. They will not let fighter pilots apply to the U-2 for that reason. And since bomber pilots are being used to backfill some of...

Possible 44% reduction in student SNAs ans SNFOs?

The AF significantly cut pilot production back around '94,... and the ripple effect is just now ending.

Navy cancels deployments, Air Force cancels air shows

A 20% pay cut. My neighbor across the street works for the CA gov't, and he had a similar thing happen 2-3 years ago. And most of them found work arounds. Why this is such a major emotional item for folks is unfortunate. How many industries have given 20% pay cuts to their employees in...

Navy cancels deployments, Air Force cancels air shows

Luke and Seymour-Johnson got canx'd today too. I guess a different way to look at it is this: The AF decided to canx airshows (in addition to orientation sorties, flyovers, and most/all TDY/TAD trips, etc...) to allow the front line units to continue to fly. The Navy cancelled a carrier...

    What's your favorite micro brew

Hangar 24. http://www.hangar24brewery.com/ The Orange Wheat is incredible. For those of y'all stationed in SoCal, you need to swing by when the opportunity arises. They are located next to Redlands Airport (KREI).

Blue Angels - is there a physical fitness program and dietary guidelines ... guide?

No need to. Just eat what is considered "healthy" and you will be fine. Fitness: Get fit. Questions? Functional movements, aerobic endurance, etc... Using the Blues' routine is overkill... and unnecessary. Once you start hanging around with the civilian aerobatic folks, you'll find out all...

    Life Insurance for Aviators?

AAFMAA: Army & Air Force Mutual Aid Association. I was told about this by a Marine Hornet buddy of mine. He said it was the best life insurance he had found, and that he had looked extensively. I bought their insurance about 6 years ago, so I haven't looked around since... but I'm betting it...

San Antonio - The Good, the Bad, the Ugly?

Going to PIT (T-6, I assume?) in the winter, you'll get plenty of weather days. As such, you'll get familiar with Taco Sensations, just about 1/4 mile out the main gate, for your breakfast taco needs. Enjoy. PIT is a great paid flying vacation.

Video of Chinese J-15 carrier ops...

Is it fair to assume those were all auto-lands? I just don't see these low-time Commie carrier pilots making this work, even though it seemed to be perfect conditions. Side note: you think they have an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet on the boat? With Gen Tso's Chicken? If so, what happens...

Anyone going to ICAS in Vegas next month?

I have to think he will allow it, once everyone jumps through hoops to answer the questions. I really cannot imagine that there will be no Navy base presence at ICAS. Does CNIC have any oversight on the Blues? Probably an ignorant question,... but I'm ignorant on what CNIC has control over.
  36. HuggyU2

WTFO? I know what CNIC stands for, but how do they impact this? Isn't it your station commander that decides to send you?

  38. HuggyU2

    Service member being an idiot

Trivial stuff? No. Even as an active duty officer, I try to "keep it real", and pick my battles. However, once I retire, if I come across serious breeches of conduct, I'll address it. If I do address it, you can bet it's more than someone's hands in their pockets. And if pertains to you...

    Service member being an idiot

I go to Coronado all the time,... and wear my flightsuit out to breakfast on Orange Ave before we fly out in the morning. I cannot wait until I get to experience this event!! I need to start prepping for my witty comebacks to the Admirals inquiries!
  40. HuggyU2

    Service member being an idiot

Yes! Your problem is you need to do an inter-service transfer to the USAF, and then deploy to Bagram or Kandahar. You'll see plenty of them once you do.
  41. HuggyU2

Anyone going to ICAS in Vegas next month?

HD: Are you just sending McShane? Surely, there's a way around this.
  42. HuggyU2

Anyone going to ICAS in Vegas next month?

I'll be there representing Beale AFB all week. Are you there representing NAS Jacksonville? If you've never been, bring a spare liver. And don't bother with a rental car. You won't need it.

    NASA flight opportunities!

    They still do.
  44. HuggyU2

    NASA flight opportunities!

True... however, a third one will be restored and flying in just a few months from now. It was mothballed in '72, and I believe it will be the longest-mothballed aircraft to ever be put back into service.

    Santa Rosa, CA Airshow

Real good show. Lots of warbirds, plus Harrier, A-10, and Super Hornet. The DC-4 made some impressive passes, if you can believe that. Sorry to hear about the tail rotor on one of the Skids. I hear the Herc will be bringing you a new blade tomorrow, though.
