    Rumor Control!

geesh, all this negative talk... what are the implications (if even possible) of transferring to the jet/helo/whatever pipeline after one tour in P-3's? Maybe the people who feel they got robbed of their first choice platform can work towards transfer?

What kind of careers await NFO's AFTER the Navy?

incredibly difficult to be a pilot after the navy if you are NFO.. the only plane where NFO's could get "stick-time" i believe is the S-3 viking which is being phased out. However... This does not mean there aren't advantages to being an NFO. 1. Flight training is shorter.. get your...

    Hard to Stay Motivated?

i didn't have a prob with motivation before OCS... i was freakin' out about the NOMI physical and memorizing knowledge and getting into peak physical condition. As long as low motivation doesn't mean zapping your prior preparation then it's ok... you'll get plenty motivated on wake-up...

    Some Broad-Scope P-3 Community Questions

my buddy said something along the lines of wanting to have exactly the number of pilots as there are seats in the remaining planes.. and then shutting down the p-3 pipeline.. he's in P-3 NFO training in San Antonio and I guess an instructor told him this.

    Some Broad-Scope P-3 Community Questions

heard a rumor that the reason there has been a sudden 'draft' of p3's is because they are shutting down the pipeline (in primary) pretty soon? any truth to this?

    Billets at OCS

Drill Body helps the class with drill... lots of one on one time with the DI Mail Body doesn't really do anything since the DI likes to do mail call himself linen body gets fresh linens every week trash body takes out the trash 1st LT is tasked with keeping the spaces clean...

Flying for Navy, Marines or Air Force?

interesting since most naval officers are marine corps trained. Actually, for a few months after OCS I tied my shoes outboard over inboard, IP'd everything (even my flight suit) and placed my pillows single edge to port. I think Marines keep their habits because TBS is just longer.. but...

well, it has been a couple months since I left whiting but I seem to recall that VT-3 was the only squadron with AF studs and IP's... and you did have an AF CO at one point right? if not, is your XO AF? and the comment on collateral duties.. I wouldn't know first hand because I'm not af...

Flying for Navy, Marines or Air Force?

i'm not sure if it's harder to get into.. it's just different. air force pilots are just that.. pilots. they don't have collateral duties and the opportunity to lead like the navy does. their deployments are shorter and their bases are in the middle of nowhere, though air force bases are...

    Jets Jets Jets

what is ISO? There is no advantage to going to AF for primary. This has been beaten to death but: Your selection depends on: 1. Needs of the Navy 2. Your performance in Primary 3. Your selection preference Jet slots are slim pickings these days unless you're in the Marine Corps...

    Navy to Marine

i guess a main reason marine officers go through TBS is so that they all know what marines go through on the ground. A non-marine pilot who doesn't understand this might have problems when it comes to close air support... i.e. the air force and friendly fire incidents.

New Navy Wingers get reassigned to Marine Corps?

I heard from an HT friend of mine that they recently announced about 35 Navy helo pilots who just got winged will be recommissioned in the Marine Corps... Does anyone else have any idea if this is accurate?

    marine corps vs. navy

    Grades

yeah my NSS was 10 points lower than expected... had i selected 2 weeks earlier it would've been 10 points higher than what i got. Ask your sqdn to print out the avg grades per stage (fams, bi's, forms etc.) and if your grade (i.e. 1.10, 1.2) is above your sdn avg for that stage then you know...

Chances of becoming a fighter pilot?

    Call me Stupid...

OCS academics is pure regurgitation... pump and dump... take your government issue highlighter and go through the book 3 times and you'll get a 100. API is a little different.. they try to trip you up and ask tricky questions... so you can't pass these tests on familiarity alone.

    uniform?'s4PriorE's

if my memory serves me correctly, initial clothing allowance was $1200... then u get $600-$800 more when u graduate OCS.
  37. virtu050

    uniform?'s4PriorE's

the gov't pays you for your initial uniform issue... almost $2k i wouldn't want to attract extra attention by wanting to use your old uniforms. even if it was possible you would have to coordinate with the NEX uniform center and PSD via your candidate officers or class team.

basically you walk into flight management office... talk to LT Domzal and say.."I want to go to Corpus..." or "I want to go to Whiting..." or "I'm a hard charger and would like Vance or Moody" Most likely you'll get what you want unless there is a big backlog as i think there is for whiting...

wtf, i had to take both tests... not that they were hard or anything. There should be gouge out there on the whiting course rules test though i wouldn't recommend using it because you'll want to actually KNOW the course rules prior to FAM1.

    Checkride Failure

checkride in primary totally depends on who you get...may seem obvious but i had a totally relaxed guy and i passed. you'll give a "brief" on some things like emergency procedures, course rules and general systems knowledge. Then you'll do a thorough pre-flight pointing out the components and...

    Class Offices?

    Vt-6

VT-6 is the place to be... most of the instructors are nice as hell and they treat you like an officer.. which is why they say VT-6 has the highest winging rate of any squadron... (above 92% I think). Plus VT-3 will screw you by taking you out of cruise-forms to start RI's and then have u...

    Grades in Primary

your NSS is affected by total graded items. if you have to repeat a flight then it'll lower your NSS even though your raw score will increase if you did better on the second flight. So you can have a 1.15 raw score and still end up with a 45 NSS.

Compare Navy OCS to USMC OCS

each navy OCS class is run by a naval officer, a navy chief and a marine DI. The primary purpose of the DI is to teach drill. Since you will almost never drill in the fleet marines have a lot more experience in that regard. There are some scary chiefs at OCS too.

Compare Navy OCS to USMC OCS

Ahh yess.. Navy OCS... been about a year since graduation. Had me so brainwashed I was clipping IP's off my flight suit and tie-ing ALL my laces outboard over inboard. I have a lot of respect for the DI's though... especially GySgt. Hanson. The man would walk up to a Commander and tell him...
