my buddy said something along the lines of wanting to have exactly the number of pilots as there are seats in the remaining planes.. and then shutting down the p-3 pipeline.. he's in P-3 NFO training in San Antonio and I guess an instructor told him this.

heard a rumor that the reason there has been a sudden 'draft' of p3's is because they are shutting down the pipeline (in primary) pretty soon? any truth to this?

during your NAMI exam they check to see if your cornea has been altered via ortho-k/CRT... probably disqualifying.

i guess a main reason marine officers go through TBS is so that they all know what marines go through on the ground. A non-marine pilot who doesn't understand this might have problems when it comes to close air support... i.e. the air force and friendly fire incidents.

have you considered helos take up 2 pilots? maybe that was an "aviator" statistic and not just pilots? I dunno.. i've heard there transitioning to a mostly helo navy.. i.e. 60-70%

yeah my NSS was 10 points lower than expected... had i selected 2 weeks earlier it would've been 10 points higher than what i got. Ask your sqdn to print out the avg grades per stage (fams, bi's, forms etc.) and if your grade (i.e. 1.10, 1.2) is above your sdn avg for that stage then you know...

well, in a way i guess getting good grades and playing sports will help you in the flight program... you need good study skills in flight school and thereafter. also, if you have good physical stamina you might be less prone to mental errors if you're stressed. plus the team skills you...

OCS academics is pure regurgitation... pump and dump... take your government issue highlighter and go through the book 3 times and you'll get a 100. API is a little different.. they try to trip you up and ask tricky questions... so you can't pass these tests on familiarity alone.

if my memory serves me correctly, initial clothing allowance was $1200... then u get $600-$800 more when u graduate OCS.

the gov't pays you for your initial uniform issue... almost $2k i wouldn't want to attract extra attention by wanting to use your old uniforms. even if it was possible you would have to coordinate with the NEX uniform center and PSD via your candidate officers or class team.

your NSS is affected by total graded items. if you have to repeat a flight then it'll lower your NSS even though your raw score will increase if you did better on the second flight. So you can have a 1.15 raw score and still end up with a 45 NSS.

each navy OCS class is run by a naval officer, a navy chief and a marine DI. The primary purpose of the DI is to teach drill. Since you will almost never drill in the fleet marines have a lot more experience in that regard. There are some scary chiefs at OCS too.

In Navy OCS, academics are pure memorization... if you're good at regurgitating information you'll do well.
