    Face-down Prone Float

yup gotta float. try this... fill your lungs with as much air as possible then grab your ankles with your legs extended so your feet don't drag you down. count to 8 potatoes and exhale and take a deep breath while doing one frog kick/breast stroke... repeat.

    USAA loan question

usaa rocks. they have this thing where they'll pay the difference if you get in a total loss car accident and you owe more on the car than it's worth. plus their interest rates are tough to beat. the good thing about getting a loan from the bank is you're not limited to a certain dealer and...

Sending newly winged aviators to reserve squadrons...

I think it's fair because they're taking volunteers. If the #1 person in a class wanted this he or she could take advantage of it. and I have seen a couple people sign up for it already. From what I understand it's being offered to primary studs and helos as well.

    DOR POLICY FOR USMC OCS

i think the official figures on attrition are 8-25%. with that said, out of my OCS class of 10 NFO's, 4 were attrited (2 DOR, 1 NPQ, 1 wash out). and out of 10 pilots, 1 was attrited (washed out from API). Just statistics from my class... could be the other way in other classes. I have a...

    Summer Cruise

summer cruise rocks! i got to go to the Mediterranean. Naples, Sigonella Siciliy, Whitewater rafting in Croatia, playing with monkeys on Gibraltar, quick stop in the Azores Portugal.. got to roam free on a guided missile destroyer AND I was getting paid!

    DOR POLICY FOR USMC OCS

a little off topic but along the lines of DORing during flight training... i've known guys who DOR'ed because they didn't enjoy flight training. i.e. the instructor was mean or they didn't like the work. i think that's got to be the most absurd reason for quitting a multi-million dollar...

    T-44 Natops

nice.. if you really want to get ahead study cockpit procedures in appendix A of the FTI. I believe there are 27 or so pages you need to have memorized - not the challenges but the responses and your actions.

    Heart Conditions: Mitral Valve Prolapse

i had a slight murmur on my dodmerb physical too... go to a specialist- someone you trust and have them give you a second echocardiogram. if the specialist says you are good to go then you can send that recommendation in and they'll clear you. that's what happened in my case.. dunno if it's...

    advice on goin to Vance?

i've had friends go through AF primary... a positive mental attitude is essential. Hooking a ride doesn't mean as much as it does in the navy so don't let it get to you. Plus, No EP's in the plane! :-)

    Grades in API?

Don't try that in Primary/Advanced. Even if you never UNSAT a flight and always make MIF you can still get an NSS below 35 which often means attrite. Academic tests are another story. I doubt they even count for anything.. just pass with an 80.

    Help! Computer Question

I was a comp sci major... but I defer my anti-spamming to: 1. stops ALL pop-ups unless you hold Ctrl key. www.popupstopper.com 2. Finds SPAM bots on your computer and eliminates the ones u select. Can also immunize from getting them again...

    Flight Physical - Anthros Question

there's a computer... or the chair... i got measured in the chair. i remember for BKL (buttock knee length) sitting with your back against the wall they measure from the wall to your knee. functional reach i believe is from the wall to your fingertips. if you are not within standards at NAMI...

yeah i don't recall my friends/family getting interviewed either... the security app itself was a pain though. I think if you're going subs or nuke swo or E-6 (sends nuke launch orders) then you require a "top secret" clearance... whereas everyone else has a "secret" clearance. correct me if...

this obviously won't be the only difficult decision you have to make in a naval career. if you just wrote you never did it.. like stated above.. no one would ever know... no one except you. it's very easy to do and easy to get away with. just like coming across gouge that -hey- looks exactly...

what is the deal with SWO

you can still serve on ship as a Supply Officer.. only difference.. you get 8 hours of sleep! I think SWO lifestyle sucks because they have so much responsibility and only so much time. I think the average amount of sleep a SWO officer gets is about 4 hours a day. But here are some...

just your helmet with attached mic... O2 mask if you're going above 10K', otherwise u leave it dangling by your side. you'll also wear a survival vest (SV2) and gloves. in multi-engine advanced you just wear a headset and sunglasses (if req).

    How do women keep up???

I think the standards are different between men and women just as they're different for age groups. The PRT measures your physical ability based on your capacity. The navy cares how physically fit you are so you don't have a heart attack if you have to run a distance or are in a stressful...

    OCS and current Weather

so... there might be senior classes with no candidate officer experience getting commissioned? hmm... i dunno, I think the last 2-3 weeks of "de-programming" was invaluable in my transition to Ensign. Imagine officers who are afraid to talk to chiefs.

Those who have to wear glasses when flying

they figure if you start out with perfect/normal vision that it is less likely your eyes will get that much worse. After you start your flight training the military has invested so much money in you it is not cost effective to get rid of you at that point.

    Flight Rules and Regs

don't worry about the whiz wheel.. you'll use it mostly in ground school... maybe once or twice during primary for in-flight calculations. i'm guessing it differs from one you would use on a ship because it calculates altitudes, groundspeed/true air speed, mach number etc. that you wouldn't...

ever play that game memory where u turn over one card and try and remember where its match is? most of API/Primary/Advanced tests are recognizing key words and their associated answers. API will play with you a bit more and change words around but the idea is the same. Kinda sux to say but...

    How much sleep at OCS?

yeah i was adjutant in 2003.. hardly stood watch but i had a small class. i would say 4-6 hrs of sleep was normal for me. 7 hrs on a good day.. likes sundays after a night of drinking at sevilles/mcguires but still had to get up for church.. mmm krispy kreme..

    need advice

kinda off topic but: i don't think ASTB is a good measure of how well you'll do... unless you take it without preparation (i.e. no arco books or gouge). anyone can ace it if you know what type of questions they're going to ask. i think a better measure of how well you'll do is what grades...

Any general hints, lesson learned, gouge for RIs??

use the RIOT trainer at first to help you with orientation.. i.e. radial to radial, over the station and point to points. All the sims are "canned" as in you know exactly what you'll be doing... however when you get to the plane most IP's like to mix things up on you..i.e. you won't know where...
