    Licenses after winging

some bases have Navy Flying Clubs where you can rent small planes for discount prices. You might have to take a course rules test and a test for the airplane you're about to fly. You'll also need anywhere from 2 to 5 hours of prior flight time in the type of plane. Finally, you will need a...

    Commercial License after IFS?

once you get your wings... you can take an equivalency test for $160 and get your Commercial License along with single engine land, multi-engine land (if you go maritime), and instrument airplane/helo. 10 hours of flight training might cost you over $1000... if you REALLY want an PPL before...

    Nami Eyes!!!!!

astigmatism seems to change every day... have it checked again by a civilian doc before your NAMI physical and see if you can't get some pointers on improving it... i.e. excessive tv/computer use. there are eye exercises out there claiming to improve it too. good luck.

    Should I apply a 3rd time?

you gotta ask yourself is it worth it.. basically if you got in the 3rd attempt you'd have invested 6 years in college for a bachelors degree (though not too unsual for some)... by the time you graduated the academy and got your commission you could have finished flight school and maybe even...

yes... it affects the curvature of your cornea.. NAMI definitely screens for it.

WOW - check out these wings:

i'm not very superstitious but during the winging ceremony they suggested you take a set of wings and put "starter holes" into your uniform to make it easier on your parents/spouse when they pin it on... i couldn't do this for some reason... just seemed wrong to put wings on your uniform before...

'Beach Club Apt.' on the island... address is 14721 whitecap blvd. Great management.. they even got me out of paying a month's rent by finding another renter for me. Practically right on the beach and only 10-15 mins from base. They have studio apartments too for real cheap if you dont' have...

    Has anyone heard of IFS???

you also learn some things you'll never do in navy flight training... i.e. short field/soft field take-offs and landings, turns around a point, horizontal S patterns, using an E6B vice a CR2, and filling out your own log book. overall a good time.. but you have to solo by 15 hours and some...

What are the most difficult classes at OCS?

if you really want to get ready for OCS lifestyle... 1. every random moment drop everything you're doing and start doing PT. 2. march everywhere you go 3. practice your thousand yard stare on your dog 4. drink 4 glasses of water at every meal 5. only go to the bathroom when you've just...

    Can I fly jets!

i remember the week of selection (after i already submitted my choices) we had a brief on C-130's and jets. The Jet people didn't really impress me.. all they said was like "blah blah blah pointy end of the spear blah blah" but the c-130 people had cool videos and actually talked a lot about...

to become a naval officer.. 1. might help to be a US citizen.. kinda helps with the security clearance.. 2. having been an officer of a foreign military will probably not help. 3. lasik is not authorized by the Navy 4. english will probably have to improve slightly 5. good luck with your...

    BOLC...did anyone learn ANYTHING....

    Purging SNA’s

I thought a 50 NSS meant you were "average" I've heard of studs getting 80 NSS too... btw.. i got a 50 NSS in API with an 89 or 90 test average. either tests are easier now or things are more competetive.

    P3 windshear escape procedure

just a thought.. but gear has nothing but drag... flaps provide both lift AND drag. if you're low and slow the last thing you want to eliminate is lift. Max power, get to that Vy/Vx pitch attitude and eliminate drag.

    SOHCAHTOA on the ASTB... why?

i had my Natops Instrument Checkride yesterday and we were all talking about how we all suck at math. I guess at some point pilots were good at math but by far most people I know aren't. That's why there is so much GOUGE... i.e. for a 3 degree glideslope just take half your groundspeed to...

    What is "Inboard over Outboard"

    Chow Hall Protocol at OCS

    Dog tag silencers

one of the things i hate most about flight school is the disparity of grading. what one instructor would give a 5 for another would give you a 3 or 2. that's why NSS is a bunch of bull crap because if one stud gets lucky and doesn't have a crappy instructor like some other stud did his grades...

    hand to hand combat

unless you're a SEAL i don't see when a naval officer would need hand to hand combat skills. even if you're shot down as a pilot the object would be to evade your enemy not kick his ass and attract more attention ala RAMBO. Why did you want to become an officer?
