    Question about IFS

no other duties.. just phone muster at 7:30 on weekdays.. and a weekly "muster" at the O'Club on Fridays at 1600. IFS must be finished within 60 days. I'd say between 30 to 60 days is average.

    Question about IFS

i'm doing IFS now and I think it's great. There's a lot of time off and it goes towards your stash time. You learn at a civilian airport (and you get to wear civies) so I'm sure it's the same instruction you would get anywhere else... except a little more fast paced. You have to solo by 15...

IMPORTANT INFO FOR ALL GOING TO OCS!!!

brush your teeth and floss twice a day for a month before you go to OCS. you need a class 2 dental to graduate. If you have impacted wisdom teeth you'll get those removed while you're a candio.

    Inspections (MTT & PI)

they will issue everything you need... but more than likely you will "jack it up" and need to buy more stuff. stamping refers to stamping your name on everything. this is harder than it seems as the location must be exactly in a certain spot. Then you have to "IP" everything. Then you have...

    Inspections (MTT & PI)

the Candio's will probably convince you to spend a lot of money on museum pieces... The OCS staff is trying to discourage this... My advice.. don't mess up the first time!

    PRT/Phys. Conditioning Website

The Men's Health Workout helped me a lot. Plus, beware.. the OCS PRT grading scheme is different than the Navy's. An 'excellent low' will get you 80 points and your final score is your lowest event not the average. http://www.menshealth.com/fitness2/fitmancan.shtml

    Anyone Currently at the Citadel...

in the end it doesn't matter what your commissioning source is. Every Captain or high ranking officer I've talked to all say the same thing... in the fleet it don't mean a thing whether you graduated from the academy, rotc, or ocs. if fact they'll often give arguments for why they prefer ocs...

    Automobile sales tax

Yeah I wasn't charged sales tax in Virginia because I gave a Florida Address... once I came down to florida to have it registered they charged me $1200 for tax. I'm gonna see if I can pay Virginia tax instead since it's cheaper.

Is this true at OCS now????

never saw that happen.. though i have seen DI's jump on tables at chow hall... never seen them kick a tray at ya... maybe knock it out of your hands though :-) the longest run i had was about 5.5 miles and without rifles.
  17. virtu050

    Stash time

they won't even talk to you until you check in for API (after OCS). I think you can take up to 30 days of leave at a time... you can keep 60 days on the books until you retire and cash them in. If you're not BDCP or prior then you'll have accrued 10 days of leave which you can take immediately...

    Personal Stuff at OCS

pictures are allowed... just tape 'em to the inside of your wall locker... as for receiving mail.. avoid receiving suspicious/bulky packages or girly letters with flowers or pooh bears on them for the first 4 weeks. You'll understand why when you get there.

    Personal Stuff at OCS

just graduated from ocs may 9th.. maybe i can be of assistance: -A Navy type blanket is any blanket you can fold into your "lucky bag" - bag you bring with you. They are technically "contraband" anyways and so you will have to store it in your locker during the day when you're not sleeping...

    Doing the PRT at API

just took the PRT this past Thursday... if you graduated from OCS it's a joke. Everyone does the minimums on the push ups and situps and the run is on a trail which you lap 3 times.. and there are markers that tell you what your time should be. My advice is to start out fast at the...

Response from Navy Eye Doctor at NAMI

hey guys, The eye exam at NAMI was tough but I PASSED! You get examined by 3 people, so basically you have 3 chances to read 20/40 (according to NAMI standards). I failed the first time with 20/50 (I really have 20/30)'cuz it was a corpsman and he was just doing a preliminary screening... but...

    Am I worrying too much?

Froggy could you shed some more light on the eye exam? Do they cover up the other lines when you're reading one? Also, do you cover up your one eye with your hand or do they give you something? i hear there are like 4 charts. Do they move the charts around? Is it projected against a wall or...

IMPORTANT INFO FOR ALL GOING TO OCS!!!

I got this response from the NAMI eye doctor... I dunno if he knows the deal but I would imagine he would.. ----- I wish I could calm all rumors. However, rumors are like elbows. There are many reasons for NPQ in regards to OCS. In regards to physical quals, there still exist many reasons...

Response from Navy Eye Doctor at NAMI

The only kind of eye surgery the Navy will accept (as far as I know) is PRK laser surgery-Not LASIK! Also, you should do this before applying to OCS as you have to obtain a waiver (usually 3 months after the procedure) and you are instantlly disqualified should you get it. If you are...

Response from Navy Eye Doctor at NAMI

from what I hear the depth perception test at OCS is harder than the one at MEPS. You will get your vision (and everything else) tested at NAMI on the second day of OCS. They are real strict with their standards. You may want to check back at previous posts about depth perception screening at...

Response from Navy Eye Doctor at NAMI

Here are the responses I got from two Navy Eye Doctors regarding concern about the NAMI eye exam at OCS. Just FYI. ---- Indeed the vision standards are no worse than 20/40 uncorrected. One area that must be considered is that we have ten letters on our Goodlite Charts. The Goodlite Chart is...

If you apply to NROTC you can get a scholarship or you can just apply for the college-program without a scholarship. So since I've stumbled on this website my worries about OCS medical exam have compounded. My vision is around 20/30 but I've heard people say on this forum that at NAMI that translates to 20/60 in some cases. I qualified for SNA but my main concern is getting commissioned... I'll settle for...

    Medical

Charts? you have to do it more than once? Also, NAMI doesn't care that you took 4 eye exams prior that year and passed? you can't ask to have the exam taken again? Finally, if you don't pass they put you in GTX? Is that where you wait after PRK and resubmitting your package? Since there...
