Whomever (s)he is...I wanna put in for a NAM

I made sure that I never did anything crazy on my last flight, but if I was gonna do that, I promise you that I wouldn't half-ass it. I'd do six bills at 60 feet squawking 6666(in standby) and I'd make sure that it was well after sunset so people could admire the candles. Nobody would know the...

    Why are you Leaving?

From my experience, the CAGs that were tactical leaders were also the best at operational management. I think the two are closely related - you essentially buy into the business side of our operation. The CAGs who were tactical zeros tended to have many other operational misgivings, a CYA...

    Why are you Leaving?

I left for many reasons as well, but the one that concerned me the most and I think could do long-term damage to the community is the lack respect for tactical prowess at the higher levels of command. I'm all for developing leaders, but when that takes priority over tactical excellence, we've...

Do students in certain colleges have a higher chance of getting a nrotc scholarship?

I don't think you have anything to worry about as long as you're doing a legitimate major. I imagine the university of washington is highly regarded in the ROTC scholarship world. The only school specific detractor could be a weakly run ROTC department with demotivated supervision, but I don't...

    Why are you Leaving?

Do you think some bottom-feeder aviator that was unlucky enough to get stuck into that job is any better? When the missiles start flying, someone with greater knowledge, responsibility, and seniority will step in and take that job over. Until then, pretty much anyone can be trained to run the...

    Why are you Leaving?

For the folks just joining or about to join the ranks of Naval Aviation - I wouldn't be discouraged by all of the banter that you read or hear about from guys in their 30s and 40s. Being a JO in the fleet is the greatest job anyone can get, so don't let this discussion change the way you go...

    O-4 List out (last year)

Not trying to throw stones at the AB or anyone else, but the whole concept of "taking personal responsibility" is irresponsible in this circumstance. 1) He's not responsible for the board results. 2) He can't do anything about this year's board. 3) He did not get infront of anything...

    O-4 List out (last year)

I hope the guys who are up for shore tour orders or in the window for a disassociated sea tour go after what they truly want. BUPERS has been feeding you crap for years, and I feel bad for the people who got burnt in this most recent board. A few observations: 1. IAs were supposed to be...

    FY-15 ADHSB

Maybe I should have been clearer in my previous post. I am not for a bonus of any kind. Bupers is upfront that it is a retention tool. Performance has nothing to do with it, otherwise, why is there such a disparity between what hornet and helo pilots get paid? And if it is a retention tool...

    FY-15 ADHSB

The issue with the bonus / retirement system is that it incentivises and impresses your worst performers. In the real world, bonuses are paid after the hard work is done, as a sign of gratitude for performance - but in Naval Aviation, the bonus is paid upfront to "lock in" someone for a future...

    FY-15 ADHSB

It's really sad to see the implosion of the future of my community up close (04YG VFA), but I think everyone had known this was developing over the past 3-4 years, and now we are at or very close to the point that there will not be enough people to fill fleet DH slots (and we're not even dipping...

Arrested after getting accepted to OCS, but before heading out..just read.

There will be no classic court room proceedings like people see on TV. The legal division of the company could fight this case on the company's behalf, but the risk of bad publicity that comes along with targeting customers won't be worth the potential benefits that would arise from defending...

Getting laughed at might scare some people. Feelings are real, but there isn't really a risk associated with that given this guy's current position. If this guy is facing a FELONY, then he will never get a commission and likely never get a job better than construction. when the lawyer he...

This is not the Navy where we crush people for speaking up for themselves. In the real world, lawsuits can be levied regardless of how strong they are, and by people in almost any position - including those in jail. If this kid got caught in a chain store, I imagine it was not the company's...

Arrested after getting accepted to OCS, but before heading out..just read.

By the way, I have no idea where you live, but it is extremely rare for people to get picked up these days for shop lifting. Stores do a lot to deter shoplifting, but they rarely stop it once it happens because it opens up a lot of opportunity for lawsuits.

Unfortunately, no one on here can help you. Your recruiter can't help you. I think the bigger priority now is to get this off of your record. It will mean a lot to you, not just for your time in the military, but for your personal life as well when it comes time to take out loans, apply to...

BIG CHANGES coming to the NROTC Scholarship

Yes. People who develop new mathematical / scientific concepts get Nobel prizes / Fields medals. Everyone else is just an executor. In English, the roles are reversed. Everyone is expected to develop original points of view on the subject, even at the high school level. Anything less is...

BIG CHANGES coming to the NROTC Scholarship

The reason why English is valuable is because it requires logic to understand. Only EE/CS offer this on the STEM side of the house. Math, engineering, bio, ect are all exercises in repetition / memorization.

BIG CHANGES coming to the NROTC Scholarship

About 15 years ago, the Navy did a study to find out which majors performed best at the Navy's nuke school. The answer was English. I majored in math, and I can understand why the Navy wants to go to a STEM focus, but this new thinking is counter to their whole diversity stance, unless, of...

HELP!! Trying to make sure my fellow 4/C doesn't get kicked out of the unit

    1. Nobody knows what will happen. 2. One of the best qualities of a Naval Aviator is not getting caught, whether it be for urinating in public or by a SA-XX. 3. When I was a mid, a decade ago, this sort of behavior would result in a "talking to", nothing more. In today's navy, I'd expect...

I don't really see what ground the NFL has to stand on. They are tennants in stadiums that are subject to the rules and laws of local municipalities. I understand why the NFL thinks this is a good idea, but I fail to see how it could stand up in court. The NFL has been pretty successful at...

    ERAU Daytona

In short, no, but it all depends on what you want to do on the outside world. Employers have a good feel for the relative weight of resumes based on school and discipline. ERAU is not a school they will value highly. As far as engineering physics or space physics goes, I imagine that...

I was not being sarcastic. I do not consider a segue from a military officer career into a GS or a contract-related job supporting the Federal Government the "real world". As for the airlines, you don't need an engineering degree to get an airline gig, but then again, you don't need a degree...

The effect it will have on your military carreer will be minimal, but it will destroy you when you seek a job in the outside world. Employers will know you took the easy route, and they'll give the nod to someone who took the tougher route. You can also take your name out of the hat for Test...
