    Law after NFO?

I'm going straight for law. Now I just need to get into law school so I can qualify.

    Law after NFO?

But my cousin's girlfriend's brother told me he knew a guy that got 9/9/9 on the ASTB and a 180 on the LSAT and they let him pre-select jets and do JAG at the same time... Thanks for the responses. Looks like I'll be applying for PLC Law over the summer. Now I get to spend the next few...

    Law after NFO?

So it seems above the limits on seated height for Marine SNA. My next choices are Law or NFO. Long-term I want to do law, but short-term I'd rather be in the air. I've read up on the various law programs for PLC and OCC, but I couldn't find much of anything regarding going into law after...

Well, just did more accurate measurements, and I'm at 39.5". I assume this is the end of the road for an SNA slot...

The future of airport security screening

Does anyone honestly think the TSA would agree to such a passive system? These are the same guys who won't let you bring a drink past security.

Anthropometric issues (are you too big or even too small or...)

Just had my first flight physical this week (went to Cherry Point for it, not Pensacola), and I'm positive that the guy doing the anthro measurements did it wrong. He put me down for 41" seated height, when just a few minutes ago I measured just under 39" sitting against the wall with my back...

    Colleges and Majors

Graduated from Florida Institute of Technology's College of Aeronautics in 2007. Majored in Aeronautics. Great professors, great flight training, no girls though. Major in something that will be helpful in a civilian job just in case your military goals don't work out.

    Maddox Rod Test

Sorry to grave dig, but does anyone know of a way to detect phoria without an eye exam? Trying to figure out if I should be doing any of these exercises before my flight physical.

    Nugget61's PRK Process

Going in for the flight physical in a few weeks, so I'll soon know if this is going to pay off. My vision is consistently 20/15 in each eye, but I'm not sure of any way to check for phorias without using the machine.

    OCC-196 Dropout.

Might as well try, but don't expect your flight time to make much of a difference. My PFT score has been more important than my 1500 hours so far.

Class E surface area extension to airport

It's still not a great idea to loiter within the approach and departure corridors if they handle airline traffic. Our tower operators in Melbourne would always yell at the guys who pop up VFR 6 miles out right in the path of an MD-80 coming in for RWY 9R.

    Resting before PFT?

I can't imagine a carb load would have helped me. I never ran low on energy during the run. My legs just got worn out thanks to my involuntary 4-week vacation from running. Stupid foot injury.

    Resting before PFT?

Thanks for the tips. Did 18/100/21:41 for a 267. Needs to get better, but as a first PFT I think it should make a good baseline. I actually did over 20 pullups, but a few didn't count. Time to work on making sure I get that full dead-hang.

    Resting before PFT?

I've been doing Armstrong pull-up and Killer's crunch workout Monday-Friday for a while to get ready for the PFT. I have one this Wednesday morning. Should I rest Monday and Tuesday, do light calisthenics, or continue my normal program for those two days? Any advice is appreciated.

    Foot pain

Went to the doc today, he said it's sesamoiditis. Basically an inflamation of the bone and tendon in the ball of the foot. About a week of rest should clear it up. Very relieved that it's not something more serious like a stress fracture.

    Foot pain

I have some pain in the ball of my foot whenever I put pressure on that area. It's right around the end of the third metatarsal. It started a week ago as a minor discomfort whenever I put a lot of pressure directly on that area, but now any pressure causes pain. I haven't been running since...

Good luck. I'm just over 3 months post-surgery and I only wish I had done it sooner.

    Incorrect medical records

I never actually used the meds. I just tossed the pill in the bushes each morning on the way out the door. Unfortunately the prescription is in my records, and I can't prove that I never took the drugs. I should have a letter from a psychologist in the next few days saying I had no reason be...

    A colgan Q400 Crash!?

Other pilots who fly the ILS into BUF have reported distortions in the glideslope, which could cause an autopilot to rapidly pitch up in an attempt to catch a moving signal. If this is the case, the FAA will be taking a serious hit. They're the ones pushing airlines to keep the autopilot on...

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

Speed limit...limit load factor...both just a rough limit, right? I doubt a ticket or two would be a deal breaker, but I feel better applying with a clean record. Pilots who exceed established limits frequently turn themselves (and their expensive aircraft) into smoking craters. Edit...

    ear popping/ pressure

Plus, a commercial airliner's cabin altitute is usually set at around 8,000' or lower. They also set the cabin rate of climb or descent to around 500 ft/min. You'll experience more extreme pressure changes in a Cessna that you will in an airliner.

    Incorrect medical records

I'm trying to get an air contract with the Marines, and I have a problem in my medical records. In the beginning of high school I was put on ADD meds. They were prescribed at my parents' request. In the records, the incompetent doc stated that I was diagnosed with ADD after "extensive...

    Working Out

Biggest thing for me on the ASTB was time management. I'm working as a flight instructor while I try to earn an air contract, so I tend to overthink some of the aeronautical questions. I just went with my first intuition. Worked out well for me. Also practice mental math for the next few...

    Nugget61's PRK Process

Just had mine this morning, Very easy procedure. No pain so far today, just a little bit of eye itch. I slept for a good seven hours after the operation. Doc said the operation went perfectly. My distant vision is already much better. I was around 20/50 and 20/80 before. Near vision is a...

    PRK Waiver Denied

Something my doc told me on the pressure tests. If you hold your breath as some people do during the test, it causes a slight pressure increase.

    Nugget61's PRK Process

Thanks for the writeup. Going in for my consultation next week and if all goes well I've got the operation scheduled for the 4th. Then of course waiting to hear if I get the waiver.

    Newbie checking in

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll have to find about a month where I can miss work or just teach ground school and do flight reviews. I talked with an OSO a few weeks ago, and they said it's 3 months before I'm eligible for a waiver. I'll talk with them again monday, but is there a...

    Newbie checking in

Joined the forum after browsing for a while. I'm a 23 year old professional flight instructor with over 1000 hours total time and a 4-year aeronautics degree. Now that I can finally afford PRK, I'm going to pursue my long-time goal of flying for the Marines. I will likely get the surgery in...
