    Maintenance at a civil airport?

I don't know about the Navy, but there is no way an AF T-6 would get worked on by anyone other than a USAF-qualified T-6 maintenance person.

    Lululemon for me.

Agree with Brett. Granted; the AF is a different culture, but we've been through this issue and it made no difference to anyone, from my viewpoint.

They are happy because they have received their new, white ascots and are waving them proudly! Congrats to them! So glad to see the Navy finally embrace this ancient aviation tradition.

    Foreign Langage Fluency—Career Advantage?

In the AF, most pilots I know don't list any language skills, so they can avoid a non-vol to a language related job. I have a friend that was on the career fast track, and his fluency in Arabic helped get him a key job working for a Flag officer. So yes... depending on what you want to do...

It's only a matter of time before someone will file suit because they didn't get a free extra seat because they were discriminated against for being too skinny. #skinnyshaming The whole Pre-Board thing should be an indicator of how people will manipulate and abuse this.

    Top Gun History

Today, at the big airshow convention in Vegas, they did a 1 hour moderated session with Dan "Yank" Pedersen... who led the creation of Top Gun... and Darrell "Condor" Gary, one of the original 8 Top Gun instructors. Jim Kidrick from the San Diego Aerospace Museum was the moderator. You hear...

NFO to Pilot in the Navy or Air Force

It's only my anecdotal and observed opinion, but the transition is much more common in the USAF. In fact, my daughter just got her USAF Pilot wings last year after 6 years as a Nav/CSO.

    RIP Col Frank Borman

Amen. Col Borman was our neighbor when I was growing up in the shadow of the (now) Johnson Spacecraft Center. My brother and his son Eddie carpooled to school. I recall he had a P-63 King Cobra in Las Cruces a number of years ago. Rare. I wonder where that plane is. In any case... him...

The SHOW: Airlines still a "good gig"??

A year ago, I had lunch with a local pilot group and was introduced to a new guy. He was almost 62, and had taken the early retirement for SWA. What was he doing now, you ask? He was a United new hire, and was in the middle of his initial 787 qualification.

The SHOW: Airlines still a "good gig"??

I met a Horizon captain while jumpseatikg in Aug 2022. After 30 years, he was heading to Envoy. I think he was 59. They were offering him ~$425k to come to the dark side. I don't recall specifics, but he was making the move. Great money. But I've turned down a shitload of "good money" for...

Something is very wrong in the news reporting. It's not making sense. He was in the jumpseat... and couldn't kill the engine switches without them stopping him?? And then he just left the cockpit when told to do so? How about this: he could wait until a trip he was flying, wait for a...

    MIG-23 Ejection/Crash this past weekend . . . .

    MIG-23 Ejection/Crash this past weekend . . . .

Is this a rule only on the ship? On a land flightline, are you supposed to have your gloves on when walking to the jet? I tried those Wiley X gloves above, and couldn't get a good fit at all.

    So long HGU-55/P

It's 22:1... so about 37 nm for each 10,000. A touch less with the pods on the jet. Get into the jet stream and you can go far... or nowhere. Takes about 90 minutes to glide down with the engine out.

    So long HGU-55/P

Like BikerBoy said, we do a lot of "low" stuff (below FL450). You also may be surprised to know the AF has dedicated SAR Wings, using the HC-130 and HH-60. They can effect rescues over 1,000 nm off the shore... much further than USCG air assets can (or so I'm told). CA ANG has a wing at the...

Some parts of the Air Force do. They even carry a raft, wear an orange pressure suit, and fly a lot of their missions over water. As for the helmet, I'll stick to mine.

    MIG-23 Ejection/Crash this past weekend . . . .

For accuracy, that's not part of the Operating Limitations for an Experimental aircraft. You can take pax on normal day-to-day flights in most circumstances. However, if operating in "Waivered Airspace" like you have at an airshow, it is only "essential crew". Now, I can definitely see a...
