    USS Edsall Found!

To be clear, I mean no disrespect toward the incident on the Bonhomme Richard. As someone who has zero knowledge of how naval ships operate, I was somewhat fascinated... tragically... that we lost a warship in port. To those who fought to save the ship, I toast to you. My comment was aimed...

    T-45C Replacement

Until recently, both branches have been doing pilot training pretty much the same way for 60 years. I have to wonder if the USAF and the USN have pilots cross-talking on what they are doing... actually integrated in each others' pilot training development process..., using ideas (both good and...

NEWS Last EP-3s have returned home

Another funny story. We had a U-2 pilot that physically touched an RQ-4. Shortly after that, it crashed. Months later, he touched another one while overseas. That one crashed a few days later. We tried to get him to walk the Beale flightline and rub every RQ-4 on the base! He wouldn't...

NEWS Last EP-3s have returned home

Are most of you aware an RQ-4 was "inflight terminated" by accident over the Edwards Complex many years ago? As I recall, a different Mission Control Element at Nellis was doing test, and during that process, someone "flipped the switch" to test the inflight terminate. Well, they hadn't...

Scooters Forever (A-4 Skyhawk Tribute Thread)

My friend Jerod flies Skyhawk 518. Beautiful TA-4. Two seats would be great! I think it's still for sale too. https://m.facebook.com/skyhawk518/

    New CFI requirements

Chuck, Well... I used to go "FSDO shopping" until I got the result I wanted. I hear that's not as easy anymore though. 🤷‍♂️

    New CFI requirements

From a good friend who teaches part time at a flight school. "I don’t have a TSA account but I had to do the TSA CBT to instruct at the school. It’s a 5 minute see something-say something brief. I did it when I did my CFI rehack. "

Yep. This is before I gave up and cut the tips off my Sparco's.

    Fingerless Flight Gloves

I spoke to Outdoor Research today. No plans to offer anything for a few months. I don't understand how gloves are "seasonal". However they said if we wanted to do a bulk order, we should contact their "tactical suppliers". I'll just buy the Sparco gloves I normally use and have a seamstress...

    Fingerless Flight Gloves

The only ones I can find that have the 3 fingers exposed for touchscreen usage are the Wiley X. They fit like shit. I'm not the only one in the squadron that thinks so, either. I use Sparco racing gloves and have cut the fingers. However, I'm curious if there's any other companies that make...

The SHOW: Airlines still a "good gig"??

If it happens to the Captain, the FO should yell "Get the fuck out of MY seat!" Yes there are SOPs for this. And no one dies inflight, normally. They are "incapacitated". In a nutshell, get them away from the controls. Get the pilot out of the cockpit to render prolonged first aid. This...

The SHOW: Airlines still a "good gig"??

They stick just about every commercial airplane on there... just in case. I cropped it out, but there are also a bunch of Regional Jets on that pay chart, at the bottom.

Here's the 2026 hourly pay for rates for United. If pay is $125/hr, expect to earn $125,000.

The SHOW: Airlines still a "good gig"??

You're spot on, sevenhelmet. Very few avoid the left seat because they are intimidated by the workload. For me, moving to NB cappy from WB FO would mean a pay cut. And a lot crappier schedules.

    Navy North Island (NZY) Info

Funny story... My wife is having breakfast at the Navy Lodge lobby and so were a lot of VFA-27 aircrew that are TDY here. There was also a couple sitting near her. They were probably in their mid-70's, and my wife could overhear their conversation. A couple of VFA LT's walked by and the...

Yep, you're absolutely right, Brett. There's a ton I don't know. A friend is the Vice at Beale and I learn how much I don't know about his job on a regular basis. From what they told me: yes, GS can do it. Just show your CAC card. For details, call front desk at 619.435.0191, ext 4. Ext 1 is reservations. $185/night. There are some seriously easy and cheap things they could do to dramatically improve them, and things tend to be broken... but I...

    Navy North Island (NZY) Info

Being on vacation with my portable super computer, I did some light reading on boats left to deteriorate in the surf. Looks like some toxic chemicals can be released as it breaks down. Now, I don't know shit about boats like the rest of you, but this thing either has to get hauled off before...

Thanks. I was curious if there was something like the old "Wednesday night" at the Miramar O'Club... back when that was a big thing. For those are not familiar with that, there's an old movie with a good scene from a Miramar Wednesday. In reality, the Club was better than the movie...

    Navy North Island (NZY) Info

I'm on my annual pilgrimage to the NZY cottages on the beach. Question: what's the story on this boat? It is beached right in front of the cottages, and appears to have been here a number of months? With the US Navy being the experts in boat recovery, why has this remained here so long that...

Central Coast AirFest in Santa Maria CA is this weekend, 21-22 Sept. It's right by Vandenburg SFB, and the best warbird airshow in the nation. Two of the only 5 De Havilland Mosquitos will be flying in formation... the first time that has happened since 1987. The F7F Tigercat just cancelled...

    USAF Birthday.

Two years ago, the Navy did this. https://www.dvidshub.net/image/7420604/happy-birthday-us-air-force I'm curious if it was a joke or not. Either way, putting a Canadian Hornet in there was... different.

The SHOW: Airlines still a "good gig"??

I'm currently on a trip with some senior FAs. One has 55 years with United. The other is 50+ years including time at PanAm. As a general rule, I find many of these super senior ones to be the best when it comes to looking after the crew.

    USN Lewd Callsigns = bad!

Agreed. My last ~10 years on active duty, I went all over the CONUS with the T-38. Once I was out of range of the Beale TACAN, my callsign for the entire weekend was HUGGY02. And I never heard one peep about it.
