    Are the natives friendly?

The people of Pensacola are used to OCS guys. I was there over thanksgiving '02, and was eating at Damon's that night with three of my classmates. An anonoymous couple gave our waiter 40 bucks toward our bill (we were in our summer whites). I'd say that's pretty friendly.

There's also Camp Pendleton up in Oceanside, that's pretty close to SD too.

    No Wheels

Find someone who runs faster than you, and go running with them. The summer before OCS, the fastest I ever did the 1.5 in was 12:25, not so good. At the In-PRT, I thought I was going to roll because alot of people were kicking my @ss, and I ended up at 11:27. Running with other people does...

How Bad Does It Hurt To Have Smoked The Cheeba

Let's put it this way, it's the only illegal drug you could have done and still be eligible. If you did crack, heroin, ecstasy, you're done. That's what my recruiter said. He then said, if you've smoked pot, it's ok, just tell me now, and basically promise not to do it again. It shouldn't...

How do you stay motivated to work hard?

One of my high school volleyball coaches graduated from Ithaca College with a BA in pyschology. He wasn't a teacher, he was a waiter at Applebee's and he lived with his parents. That was enough motivation for me.

None taken. Let me clarify. I meant that dieting without excercising was the lazy way out.

    Grrrrrrr Body Fat!

2 weeks is not a lot of time. However, instead of just dieting, do some cardio, and hit the weight room. People often over look the value of adding muscle mass to keep the weight off. Ever notice how people complain about dropping 10 pounds and gaining it all back by dieting? Dieting is...

    Horror Stories

You probably shouldn't refer to yourself as "Indoctrination Candidate Maverick" if that's what you mean. Anyway, the first opportunity you will get for liberty is the 4th week, your class must work as a team for this to happen. As for writing papers, I don't know anything about that.

    University of Houston

Yeah, it's not all that uncommon, especially at schools who are in a real city, and not a college town. I don't know exactly how it works, but for example, here in San Diego, University of San Diego and San Diego State guys are in the same ROTC unit.

    CEC Anyone?

I have a degree in mechanical engineering, and let's just say AMDO is not a very technical designator. Also, my "peers" in the AMDO community are about 20 years older than me, so it's not nearly as fun as other communities where you hang out with other JOs. Also, lack of Sea Duty isn't why I...

    08-03 Dining Out 23Sept02 (Classes 07, 09 & 10)

I was in 07-03 (our skit rocked!) The Dining out is a pre-determined date, 08-03 was in their 8th week, we were in our 10th, 09-03 was in their 6th, and so on. We were kinda lucky because we were the candidate officers during the Dining out, so it was pretty cool. All the classes present...

I would...it's a monster deal. Currently the GI bill pays $985/month for a max of 36 months if you're a full time student. You never know where you'll end up down the road. Even though you have a master's, let's say you fulfill your obligation and decided to conquer corporate America. Well...

    Retaking classes...

If the new grade doesn't replace an old one, getting an A in something new would be the same to your GPA as getting an A in a repeated course. I would think you're better off taking the classes you want, not stuff from your first 1.5 years.

    Promotions and Acceptance times

Ok, the first thing you have to realize, is that the first two promotions are automatic. Wipe your nose right, and you'll see LT. You make LTJG at the 2 year point, winged or not. I know pilots who picked up JG before getting their wings. Then 2 years later, you'll make LT. Again, don't...

Well, unless something's changed, you didn't need to know which way the "crow" was facing. Yes, they call it a "crow" in the fleet, but OCS is anything but. At OCS, "Sir, an E-6 in the United States Navy is a petty officer first class. His insignia is three chevrons below an eagle."

By your profile, it says you're still in high school. Right now, you're qualified for SNA, so you wouldn't need PRK. Second, you really shouldn't have PRK until you're in your mid 20s or so to ensure that your eyesight has leveled off. Just cross your fingers and pray your eyes are done changing.

    NROTC 4-yr. Scholarship Question

I can't answer the question, but let's put it this way. More than 1 AP class will not insure that you will graduate college earlier. I took AB Calc and AP Stat, and placed out of Calc I and Stat 100 for a total of 7 credits. I graduated college with 146 credits. As you can see, you'll need...

too much fun over spring break...

You could be in some trouble if you don't volunteer that info. For starters, all officers need a secret clearance, and you have to fill out forms, part of which includes criminal record. If you decide not to volunteer that info, and they find out, they'll probably wonder about your character...

Aviator3000, Where I went to school, once you got a grade, it stuck. If you had to repeat it, you got a new grade. For example: I know someone who failed freshman english, and then took it again and got an A. They don't "average" the classes, they just add it to your transcript which means...

To Abbott's or not to Abbott's?

For any OCS guys, another good thing about abbots is that they will adjust all your NEX stuff for free too, so it's good to take advantage of that. Also, I got my khakis from them, and they're made by flying cross, so I don't think Abbott's actually makes khakis.

Don't repeat classes unless you have to. i.e. if the class is required for your major, and you needed a C or better. That's not going to impress anyone. They look at your transcripts, will notice that you're repeating classes. Keep moving forward, if you're only a soph, you're not in bad...

    Am I F*&$'D

I know that you guys want to go the BDCP route for the money, and that's fine. But if your ultimate goal is to become a naval officer, and you don't get picked up BDCP, keep working hard, and apply OCS. There's less academic requirements than BDCP, because they aren't investing money in you.

    Improving push-ups

Try hitting the weights. Overall the bech press isn't a great way to improve pushups, but working on your triceps and biceps is. Also, strengthen your lower back and abs, as those are needed to do alot of pushups. However, don't neglect doing pushups altogether, rather integrate the weights...

    Women = evil. Mathematical proof!

Let's put it this way: If on the average you spend 100 bucks for every hour you spend with a girl, that would mean 2 hours is 200 bucks, 3 hours is 300 bucks, so yeah, it's girl=time*money. Plus, we're not squaring one side and not the other, we're simply substituting money for time, since...

    Memorization

Twidget, ratings are gone over in one of the classes. It wasn't until I had that class that I under stood why my class chief was called "ETC" instead of "CPO".
