Thanks for clearing that up, but I was just referring to the Khaki Combo Cover in general and not all the different insignia on them.

    OCS page w/ UNIQUE photos

Another thing, the khaki combo cover is a dead giveaway of a candio. No one in the fleet wears that crap. I think I saw some chiefs wearing it in "ALL HANDS", but that was right after they picked it up, so it was probably ceremonial. Also, you might think that the Candio is power tripping...

    OCS 21-Aug-04 Class...Graduation

I don't mean to butt in, but I believe change of command is Thursday afternoon, Hi Mom's that evening, Friday morning is the "grad run" where friends and family are welcome to wake up at the butt-crack of dawn and run in formation with the graduating class. Graduation is later that friday, then...

    high schoolers are stupid

My roommate sophomore year was a piece of work. The ringer on our phone sucked, so we swapped out with some girls who didn't need their university issued phone. After the trade, my roommate said, "wait, what's our new phone number?"

I voted soda (originally from upstate NY), however, it seems like people from Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and the midwest call it pop.

    ensigns and chiefs: the dynamic?

There's nothing unofficial about it. As an officer, you are not a specialist, and you will hold multiple jobs on a single sea tour, often without specific training. Think of the chief as your right hand man, he reports to you, but you better damn well listen to what he has to say. Ultimately...

Eye exam at OCS for SNAs?

When I went through OCS in 2002, anybody whose vision worsened went from SNA to SNFO. However, it should be noted that that's the only redesignation they do nowadays, if they still do it. I would imagine they would give you SNFO because they already dumped all that BDCP money into you. Have...

Borncreole, None of the priors in my class broke out their enlisted gear. Everyone wears short sleeve wash khakis after poopie week, and priors don't wear any warfare devices on them (like you would in the fleet). Basically, you'll get to show off your stuff on the liberty uniforms.

My best guess is that pre-appointee is a self given term, as in, he doesn't have an appointment to boat school, but he's predicting it. If that's the case, I shall be "man of the year!"

Naval Officers being asked to retire

Well, as a JO, there's going to be a learning curve. Why else is promotion to LTJG and LT automatic? I agree with the quals part, but for a brand spanking new ensign checking onto a ship (SWOS is no more, and if you failed out of that, you had serious problems), he's not going to know...

    Plebe Hazing

It's a training mechanism. People don't lead by screaming in the fleet. If you can carry out directions, say, a drill move you've been shown 2 minutes ago with a gunny in your face and spit flying everywhere, you're learning to block out the stress. Meanwhile, there are guys who forget their...

    Dehydration and 187

This is what an NHL trainer told his players "Drink 'till your piss doesn't stink." So yeah, if it's clear, you're good to go. Also, thirst is a sign of dehydration, so you should drink water regularly (I leave a bottle on my desk) rather than waiting until you're thirsty, then chugging a gallon.

everybody does the wet trainer as a part of Damage control. The only thing pilots/NFOs do that others don't is extra swim survival. Oh yeah, try not to get sea sick on the YP...those little ships get tossed around like a motherf***er

    Aviation Maintenance Duty Officer/Supply ???

You're right, they don't take EDOs directly, because EDOs have to be either sub or SWO qualified. Ask a recruiter about it. Because you can get picked up for EDO with the intention that after 2 years on a small boy, you will earn your SWO pin, and elect the ED option sending you to grad school...

Well, for starters, you need 20/40 to go to flight school as SNA. I think you should take the hour or so to have a free consultation with an eye doctor.

    DOR and Medical Drop Consequences?

Don't worry, if you're going to be NPQ'd, it'll be at the NOMI visit on the 2nd day of OCS, so you can't really "hide" anything for later down the road.

    BDCP vs. Normal OCS

yeah, we had a jackass who rolled into our class and told us if he weren't on BDCP, he would've DOR'd after 4th week. Needless to say, the was pretty low in my book. Any major can do BDCP, and no, you cand do it from your frosh year because your school doesn't have ROTC. The big point the...

    DOR and Medical Drop Consequences?

If you get to flight school and decide it's not for you, they're processing people out. They used to send you to GEN AV, which designator 1305 and basically create a job for you while you put together a lat transfer package. However, since they're overmanned, the navy figured out that it's not...

    OCS help/suggestions for senior citizen?

The most generic advice is if selected to OCS, get in shape. Sure you won't have to score as high as the young guys to get an excellent low on the PRT, but you run in the same formation as everyone else, and get mashed like everyone else. The better shape you're in, the better off you'll be...

AeroZ, Well, if you want to get into management and see the world, AMDO will do that. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Are you referring to the age limit for CEC? Because I'm pretty sure the limit is 35 for AMDO. Have you spoken to a recruiter yet? If not, he'll probably tell...

Just a thought: Don't view the phone conversation with CDR Pruett as an "interview" If you get a phone call, that's a good sign. He's the community manager and his job is to explain what you'll do as an AMDO, because most recruiters really don't know anything about the community (not thier...

    NFO Deployments

First of all, a prowler is a jet. I know people equate Jets with fighters, but the S-3 and prowler are jets too. Second, pilots are not paired off with NFOs. Everyone flies with everyone, with a good mix of junior and senior aircrew i.e. LTJG pilot with LT NFO and vice versa. For...
