Outboard over inboard or the other way??

I wouldn't worry about it. When I was there, it was outboard over inboard. If you show up with them like that, a candidate officer might make you take your laces out, then them back just for spite. Showing up with them outboard over inboard shows that you may know too much.

    Guam.....???

The coolest thing I saw while in Guam was the story of this Japanese guy who hid in a cave during WWII, and came out during the 70's and surrendered because he didn't know the war was over. Who knew caves could be so fun.

    Guam.....???

I don't know about getting orders to Guam, but we stopped there 3 times last cruise including a 2-week period where the flight deck was getting resurfaced. Basically, I thought the island was pretty boring, and that was for two weeks. The water sports are good, but nothing you couldn't do in...

A day in the life of an NFO

Admin, Safety, OPS, and Maintenance are Department head jobs, meaning, O-4s have them. Intel is a billet for the intel officer attached to the squadron. Logistics officer, never heard that one. As a JO, you'll hold billets like Skeds O, PAO, Legal O, Pers O, ESO, Line Div O, AV/Arm Div O...

    uniform?'s4PriorE's

Chances are your smurf outfit doesn't isn't the OCS Navy variety, and like I said, since it'll be the summer, you won't need your sweats. As for the PT shorts (the short teal lookin' things) you can never have too many of those, so I'd go ahead and pack those.

    uniform?'s4PriorE's

Digger, The "OCS Navy" T-shirt is part of the pt uniform when you secure. Otherwise, you just use plain white undershirts. Don't worry about that too much, because all the gear you will wear will be issued on poopie christmas. Seeing how you'll be attending OCS in the summer, you probably...

Girlfriend With an Engineering Degree and Doubts

Well, let's not sugarcoat this. She's going to have to make a sacrafice. I know when I was coming out of college with a mechanical engineering degree, I interviewed with numerous companies that had locations all over the country. I interviewed with them because I was interested in the job...

    Turning Down PLC?

One of the guys in my OCS class did the first 6 week session, then figured that being paid by BDCP was better than just being paid for the PLC summers. So it looks like it is possible to apply for other programs.

    Nrotc Commissioning Lineal Numbers

Lineal numbers may seem trivial at the JO level, but they're still good for something. In our squadron, before each boat det/cruise we have room wars. Basically the more senior you are, the higher you pick. There are no ties, so two guys who graduated the same year from USNA have their class...

    Nrotc Commissioning Lineal Numbers

It's just one of those anal things to assure that a USNA grad will be senior to ROTC grads that same month.

    My friend got the boot

Killer, They basically send you to a carrier for a sea tour and find you a job. For example, our airwing has this LTJG who was an NFO attrite, and he's basically the CAG's secretary. It doesn't make sense to pay this guy O-2 pay to have him do a BS job. The Navy figures it'll just cut it's...

What kind of people survive ocs & flight school?

Yeah, I don't think "Flight school attrite" is what the navy meant by Accelerate your life. That's not gonna boost your resume.
  14. Thisguy

    non-select physical??

There isn't a vision requirement. It's just that if you've had PRK/Lasik (because you're sick of contacts and glasses) the navy is going to want to know about it and grant a waiver.

    Help! Uniform question.

I would say if the AF guys show up in their SDBs, you should be in SDBs. If the AF guys get to wear their ugly ass light blue uniform with soft shoulder board insignia, then you could get away with wearing summer whites/khaki.

    Help! Uniform question.

Actually, the Navy's Service Dress Blue is accepted year round, so I think that would be the equivalent to the Air Force's SDBs. You can't go wrong with that. Chokers are for really formal stuff, the SDBs is basically the Navy's version of a suit.

What kind of people survive ocs & flight school?

Wink, Gunnys still have a lot of power. If you're hosed up, they'll call you down to thier office and give you a special PT session, if you say "DOR" during this, they'll accept it. On the other hand we had one girl DOR about six times, but they were all during stressful evolutions...

    AMDO Final Select

congrats twoshots, prepare for this following question about 50 times when you get to OCS: Whoever: What's your designator? You: AMDO Whoever: Oh, are you prior? You: No. (being prior in AMDO is so common, is that people will ask you that out of habit. I was aked that numerous times at...

    finding a wife

Binary, Looked at your website, how does a guy from SD end up going to college in Nebraska? Oh well, I would say, what have you got to lose? Besides, if you're still together when you go off to OCS, you'll have someone to come down for the dining out. I've never been in a long dist...

    Chances of Being Selected??

Believe it or not, some officer recruiters are chiefs. This is just a discrepancy across the nation. I got lucky with my recruiting office. The office was small, and there were two LTs, a surface nuke, and a sub nuke, one of which went to OCS. Some recruiting offices use Warrants, and not to...

    OCS help/suggestions for senior citizen?

"Later on" refers to when they let you have other goodies, probably when you secure. It was funny in my class, because they let us have the desserts after drill comp (I'm not exactly sure) and we all thought it was a trap so we didn't dare get cookies. One girl got a lot crap from other DIs...

    OCS help/suggestions for senior citizen?

No Coffee Percy, get used to the Decaf, though the PT usually woke me up in the morning (you PT before breakfast), you're allowed coffee later on, but in general, it'd be in your best interest to cut down on your caffiene during OCS.

    dates to apply for

If they're not taking SNAs, your recruiter would let you know. Don't read into it too much. By the sounds of it, it looks like you're going for BDCP. I don't think you should have a problem getting a slot within a year of graduation if selected for BDCP.

    Who's who

Well, if that's the major reason you wanted to go USNA, you might want to reconsider your goals in life. needsomeanswers!!!

It's hard to be discreet if your command knows that you're married, but never sees your spouse at functions. Also, the Navy will work with military couples to station them together. Trying to work duty stations for a pilot and an AT3 because you're married? That's going to be tricky.

    USMC F/A-18 from USAFA?

Cobra, The difficulty isn't necessarily getting a USMC flight slot, but a USMC slot period. If you want a USMC commission out of the USAFA, you'll need to find a USNA guy who wants to go Air Force for a one-for-one swap, and I think you may need a better reason then "I want to fly hornets"...

    ensigns and chiefs: the dynamic?

You're close. It's 24 months after commissioning for LTJG, and 48 months (total) for LT. The 3 year raise I was referring to was the oddity in the military payscale. The pay scale in general increases your pay every 2 years, but if you look, there's a raise for 3 years. That's what I call...

    ensigns and chiefs: the dynamic?

For the enlisted, when they deploy, they stop receiving BAS, but don't pay for food. For officers, you get your BAS, and write checks to the CVN-XX Officer's mess. Keep in mind that you only pay for the days your underway, so you won't be charged for the days you're in port. Of course, there...

    ensigns and chiefs: the dynamic?

If you go carrier aviation, here's what you're looking at: Officers eat in the Wardroom. Now on a carrier, there's two wardrooms: the forward wardroom, and the "downstairs" wardroom. When the airwing is not onboard, generally the forward wardroom is closed because it is on the top level...
