    Shore Hours

Can't say anything for shore duty, but for sea duty it all depends on the command. At one point we were going 4 day weeks after we got back from deployment, that lasted a lot longer than anyone thought possible. Now we're in the middle of workups and things are a little busier, so it evens out.

    AMDO Detailer Details

Right. You'll find out where you're going before you're done with OCS. If you contacted him now, he probably wouldn't be able to give you a straight answer. Since your OCS date is in November, you'll probably be in the March AMO class, giving you a grad date in May. That's what the detailer...

    AMDO Detailer Details

I don't see any point in talking to the detailer before OCS. You'll get to talk to him around week 9 or so (it got us out of another classes parade). There's a CDR who details 0-5 and below, and a CAPT who details the CAPTs, so basically, there's only one detailer to deal with.

Why are Marines funding the least?

Let's put it this way: The US Navy's and the USMC's aircraft are owned by the same organization, whether it be the US Navy or DON.

Why are Marines funding the least?

Here's a fun fact: The Navy owns all the Marines' aircraft. That might have something to do with the overall budget.

    BDCP and NROTC

Heh, I'm O-1 with less than 2 years and you make more than me! ha ha. Another thing to note about BDCP is that it's mainly for people who decide to join the Navy after you start college. If you decide in high school to go, a ROTC scholarship is a good way to get a top notch education at UCLA...

    BDCP and NROTC

I would go ROTC. If you do what you're proposing, you would put up with ROTC stuff for 2 years, then have to go to OCS. Minimize your pain. Also, you've already been accepted, so if you don't try to kill someone in college, you should earn your commission. The only upside I see to doing...

You'll be asked things during inspections like "What's the fourth general order of a sentry?" "What's the second article of the code of conduct?" "Who's the 12th person in your chain of command?" You'll never be asked to recite it all in a row.

    Grad Work / Delayed Entry

Getting a Masters sounds like a decent idea. Remember, you can apply for a pilot slot while still in grad school (I think you may even be able to do BDCP, because I guy in my class did BDCP CEC while he was in grad school). Naval Postgrad spots are few and far between (depending on the...

    Sundays at OCS

I didn't go to church until after 4th week, because I decided to use that time to prepare for RLP. Sunday is pretty much the only day that the staff isn't there, so you can relax a bit on Sundays. The only DI that's there is the one that has an incoming class, and he'll be busy observing them.

My point is I clearly stated the eligibility guidelines, then I have a pre-appointee come in and make a FALSE statement, which is a good example of all the bad gouge spread on this site. In PRT Standards

The out standard is Excellent Low. However, if you can get Outstanding High, by all means do so. I don't know what recruiter thinks you need to show up in that shape, but it's not uncommon that people reach that for the out-prt. Also, if enough people in your class get Excellent Medium (I...

Question on non-citizen becoming an officer

You said finances were a problem, but I would look into financial aid and go to Med School right away (without the Navy's program). Transfer Question

Nope, like I stated above, you have 5 years to use your 4 years of eligibility. Nothing complex about it. That's why most football players redshirt their first year, so they can get bigger and stronger, and then play for 4 years.

    Definition question

Another thing with USNR and USN, since your obligated 8 years, 4 active four reserve, it's easier for the Navy to have all new officers as USNR and then if they decide to get out after 4 years, hey, they're already in the reserves. Another big difference between URL and RL and Staff Corps, is...

    Transfer Question

Not to mention that you won't be able to play soccer your first year at the academy because NCAA rules require you to sit out a year when transferring between schools of the same Division. You have 5 years to use 4 years of eligibility (which is why guys can "redshirt" and then play 4 years)...

    vacation days in bdcp

If you're asking if you can sell your leave, the answer is no (not unless you're getting out of the navy, which is a bad deal anyway, because if you sell 30 days of leave, you'll get one months base pay, if you take 30 days of leave, you'll get a month's base pay, BAH, and BAS). For BDCP, you...

3.6-3.8 in engineering is not the norm. I had a 3.1 in ME. In fact, most of the guys aren't engineers. I wouldn't worry about it. Our class had a the usual amount of Sci/Engineering degrees, but we also had a bunch of History/Business/Poli Sci. Don't psych yourself out, 3.5 in EE is more...

planejane, the "dream sheet" doesn't exist for the AMDO community because it's so small. Timing is everything, since there are only 1 AMDOs in non-hornet squadrons, and 2 in hornet squadrons, you have to see who's leaving. You'll sit down with the detailer at OCS and they'll tell you what...
