Just enlisted, going in as E-3, I want gold wings

Check into PRK - I don't think your vision is quite up to standards. I want to say that it's 20/40 correctable to 20/20 but I'm really not sure. It might be 20/70 - either way it sounds like you won't quite make it. There's tons of information on this site about vision requirements and PRK...

Could use help from those in the know

I'm pretty sure there is a separate board for each community. If they accept you for supply, you wouldn't have to say yes or no until you heard about your first and second choices. At least that's the way I understand it.

    BDCP

I get about $2000 per month. Some of that is your Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) which varies with your zip code. It's probably more money than you know what to do with if you're still in school and you aren't financing your own education.

    BDCP

I applied as a junior. As far a a normal time, I don't think there is one. Some people have waited a few weeks and others have waited over 6 months. There's not a good way to predict - all you can do is apply and wait. Kinda sucks but that's how the Navy works.

A long-ass time. I started my application in February, turned it in sometime around the end of March when applications opened back up, and was sworn into the Navy on July 28. Good luck.

Air Force has a bad day

I don't know of any video. I saw it on TV a couple of years ago on Dateline or 20/20 or one of those other news shows. The crash looked fairly similar except the pilot didn't eject.

    Fighter comparisons

Not that I'll be there anytime soon, but do you know which measurements are the most important? Are these guys too big or small? I'm a long way out from flight school with a couple of big hurdles (graduating from school then OCS) staring me in the face, but I'm curious to know just the same.

    Need a lot of help

I'd say your best bet is a recruiter. Enlisting and applying for an officer candidate program are totally different and they're usually handled by different people. There's so many people trying to get into the service these days that you'll probably have to call your recruiter more often than...

    Selection Board

I assume you're going for BDCP. If I remember correctly, the board meets way more often than once or twice per year. Also, I'm pretty sure there is not a way to know when they'll meet. The waiting is part of the game. Also, they want you to get to OCS fairly soon after graduation, so I don't...
  24. ben

    Graduating Early

You have to contact the people over at CNET (I think that's who it is) before you change your degree plan. For BDCP you should have filled out a Degree Completion Plan worksheet. To my understanding, all deviations from that worksheet must be pre-approved. Check with your recruiter.

    quick question about everything

To clear up the BDCP contract and length of service committment... Your contract for BDCP requires a 4 year committment after OCS graduation. However, that will be superceded by the 8 year committment that you will enter into when you begin flight training. As previously stated in other...

what to do between PPL and OCS? instrument work?

I won't break the bank... BDCP can support flying once or twice a month. Patmack, thanks for the tip. You're right that I have a long way to go before I get into a Navy aircraft. With that fact being understood, is there anything you would suggest working on if I'm going to be flying anyway...

what to do between PPL and OCS? instrument work?

I have my PPL and wanted to ask if any of you would suggest working on any specific things that would make my experience in Primary a little easier. I don't have the time or desire to work all the way up to an instrument rating, but I wouldn't mind doing some instrument work if it would be...

    pro rec'd question

My recruiter told me back when I went through the application process that they would NOT professionally recommend you if there were no available slots. Why would the board waste their time looking over your app. if there were not any slots to give out? Surely the Navy isn't that illogical...
  34. ben

    selection process plus odds

If I were you, I would look at BDCP for a commissioning source. You sound like a qualified pilot, so they'll be checking more on whether you're qualified to be an officer in general (GPA, test scores, recommendations, ect.) If you're not familiar with it, BDCP is a program in which you are...

What should OCS hopefuls major in?

If you're considering STA then I guess you're enlisted, right? I went the BDCP route and they take all majors. I took business calculus, which is much less intensive than the calculus that engineers take. Also, the only physics I've ever had was in high school. I don't know if that answers...

What do you think is the best Navy automobile?

Some people just want a truck. In my opinion, the foreign trucks in the full-size market don't stack up to their American counterparts. When I buy a full size truck I want a full size truck, end of story. If you can't understand that, there's no use trying to explain.

What do you think is the best Navy automobile?

Personally, I see no reason to buy a new car if you're happy with the one you already have. I definitely see the temptation though, especially if you don't have a family you have to support. I went through the whole thing already with my BDCP money... I went out and bought a motorcycle with...

    BDCP PRT

Competitive and required are not the same thing. Once you're accepted you are required to maintain good low for your PRT every 6 months. The competitive profile for applicants changes all the time, and obviously the profile is pretty stinkin' competitive right now. Good luck.

Go to the top of the page and click resources. Then file lister, then gouge, then select page 4. You want the pdf file called ASTB Gouge. It's more than just gouge, it's a practice test. It's very similar to the real ASTB, some questions are WORD FOR WORD. Try it and you'll see.
