    BDCP PRT

As far as standards go, SNA candidates in BDCP are required to maintain "good low" after they have been accepted. That's what is printed on my notice of collegiate responsibilities, among other things. Anything beyond that is likely your recruiter.

    Random OCS questions

I can't answer your questions about what to pick first or what to do about PRK. From reading around on the site, I think you have to have had PRK a minimun of 6 months BEFORE you get selected to participate in the study. You can't get selected for NA and then go get PRK after - if you don't...

    Question..

this question has been asked a bunch. try using the search function, you can probably find all you need. after the pro rec it took me a month or two to swear in (can't remember for sure). after that it took about 2 months to start getting paid.

Letter from head of NAMI Opthamology

Yes, I came out pretty blessed as far as injuries go - no broken bones, and the helmet took the blow instead of my skull. I came out with a badly sprained ankle (healing nicely so far) and some internal bleeding. Just so you know, internal bleeding SUCKS. It was by far the most painful...

    NFOs and the JSF

About the performance capabilities... According to the research I did for a JSF presentation, the AF required the JSF to perform at least as well as an F-16 or they would not purchase any planes. The last statistic I saw had the number of aircraft ordered by the AF at 1700 or so. I don't...

Thanks, I'm sure he appreciates it. There was another post where someone said they called the head guy at NOMI and he asked how the kid got his phone number. Hopefully that's the only phone call... Your profile says something about motorcycles- Be careful, I just totaled mine a couple weeks...

    NFOs and the JSF

The F-35 comes in three variants, one of which is STOVL. The other two are "plain" and carrier capable. The jsf IS the F-35, two names for the same aircraft.

Letter from head of NAMI Opthamology

Look towards the bottom of the AirWarriors home page. It says, "In addition, you may get an email or a phone call from a third party in the military that you want to share with other forum members. DON'T POST THEIR NAME, PHONE NUMBER, OR ANY IDENTIFYING INFORMATION WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT." I'm...

    NFOs and the JSF

Having seen a picture of the X-32 that is definitely a fitting name! I didn't like the looks of the 35 at first, but it's kinda grown on me. It seems like the plane will have an astounding amount of tactical ability and I have been quite impressed with everything I've read. You USED to work...

both true. dean's list must be 2 consecutive semesters. the recruit must actually be accepted into a program and swear into the Navy. do either one and you get promoted.

    Promotion In BDCP

The promotion to E-5 is in your contract. I'm still in school, but I would assume it takes a few weeks/months for them to upgrade your pay. You'll be backpaid from your grad date but it will take a while.

    Time interval

I started the application process with about 18 months or so until graduation. By the time I was finally accepted and sworn in I had about 12 months left. So I guess it kinda depends where in the application process you are. If you're too close to graduation you can always apply for a direct...

    NFOs and the JSF

I just presented a project on the JSF for a Naval Science class... I've done lot's of research. To my knowledge, the JSF will complement (not replace) the new Super Hornet, but it will replace the older Hornet designs. In all the research I did I never saw anything about a 2-seat version...

    Any atheists on this board?

I'm not going to get into detail here, but it comes down to an issue of faith. For Christianity to work, you have to believe in things that you cannot use science to prove. During the course of your Christian life you will likely experience things that cannot be rationally (scientifically)...

When do we get an OCS Date

My recruiter had my date when I went in to sign all the papers and take the oath. When they accept you for OCS they have a date in mind, it's just that your recruiter may not tell you when it is if you don't ask.
  18. ben

im pretty sure the answer is no...

maybe so... PLC doesn't pay you any money, right? look into your PLC contract before you sign it. there should be a section that outlines what happens if you decide you want out. beware though, if you do go PLC and then try to switch it might not be so good. the navy may see that you had a...

    Private Pilot's Licence

Getting your private license, or even a few hours of flight time, will help you as a potential aviator more than it well help your application. I got my license AFTER I was selected. For all you Michael Moore fans out there...

Just so you are aware, Alan Greenspan has a much larger influence on the state of the economy than President Bush does. In general, presidents don't really have all that much influence over what happens in the stock market, and it's the stock market that drives the heart of the US economy...

Eye surgery...should I get it and when?

Like these guys said, it comes down to what you want you want more - being an officer or being a pilot. If you'd be happy as a NFO then take your recruiter's deal. Don't count on switching later. It can happen but it is NOT very common. If you only want SNA and wouldn't consider any other...

From my understanding of previous posts on this subject, Navy flight physicals are done during your first couple of days of OCS. You could probably have one scheduled before that (talk to your recruiter) if you wanted, but I don't know. I don't know if the physicals can be performed anywhere...

    BCDP and Embry riddle

My recruiter told me basically the same thing when I applied. If you are inside 12 months from graduating, I think you would need to apply for a direct accession spot in OCS. You still get to apply into a specific program (NFO, pilot, intel, ect) but you don't get the benefit of BDCP money. I...

What are you BCDP guys majoring in?

I'm a Finance major, I think I had a 3.3 when I applied (turned in the first round of paperwork in March or April). I got picked up for pilot. Your major is something they look at but I wouldn't change it just for a better shot at getting in. I don't think it would help you much. Study...

    pay after taxes

I got a MyPay pin in the mail last week. I enlisted (BDCP)at the end of July and got my first paycheck Oct 15. It's kind of a long story but there was a hang-up with my pay so it took me two and a half months to be paid. I'm still waiting for about 60% of the back pay they owe me. The moral...

what you "owe" the Navy for BDCP

BDCP - they didn't teach me anything. My recruiter just said, "Once you walk out that door you are no longer a civillian. Everything you do reflects on the Navy, so be careful." As far as responsibilities go, you don't really have to do anything except pass a PRT every 6 months and keep your...

    the process....

Yes, after college you go straight to OCS. Like bch said, ROTC and Academy folks do not go to OCS, they instead start training for their respective designator (NFO, NA, SWO, ect). OCS people start training when they graduate from OCS.
  44. ben

    OCS

BDCP - they pay you enough that you could use the money to pay for school. This is the only program I am aware of, but there may be others. There is extensive information on the BDCP program on this site.

Timeframe from Submission of Final Application

I took me about a month and a half as well. I expected to hear from my recruiter that I had been selected, but I found out by mail before he knew about it. The part that sucked was that I could have sworn in (started getting paid) two weeks earlier if the processors at my district office had...
