    Background checks

The real pain in the dick is listing everywhere you've lived the past five years, and a reference from each address. For college kids, moving happens every 8 months or so, and I was reaching to list people while I lived at this dorm, this apt, etc.

    passenger discount for military personnel

I took it a couple of times. What was really handy was the VA-FL route. They load up your car, so instead of heading down the I-95, You can make it from DC to Orlando overnight. Plus dinner and forced socialization with strangers is always fun.

    BDCP , OAR!! please help

Nah, I'm not a supply guy. However, I would check out the supply forum and PM/email some of the commissioned chops who can give you a no-sh!t assessment. http://www.airwarriors.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&f=24&page=1&pp=25&sort=lastpost&order=desc&daysprune=365

    BDCP , OAR!! please help

It's a 36 month sea tour. Which means during that 36-month period you'll deploy and do shorter at-sea periods now and then (SWOs can attest to this). You won't be at sea for 36 months straight if that's what you're thinking.

What are the exercise options onboard ships?

I don't know if this is standard on carriers, but the Vinson had khaki hours from 1400-1600. Even that could get crowded, but at least you weren't lining up outside waiting for people to leave so you could go in (we affectionately referred to that time as "prison hours"). Anyway, last...

    Saluting Mids

I don't know how it is with other commands, but all the mids we got at my previous squadron didn't do jack. They were shown around, given a backseat hop, but other than that, they had zero responsibility. Ok, that's not entirely true, they had to muster for man overboard.

    Saluting Mids

When I was at CECOS, an ENS LDO (who was an instructor) saluted me on the first day (I was rockin' the JG bars). I saluted back, then shook his hand and introduced myself. I was started to explain that it really wasn't necessary for an O-1 to salute an O-2, his reply was "We recognize rank on...

Retired Chief - Subs Son trying to obtain an OCS slot

Looks like you'll fall under the NRD Miami umbrella (the other one in FL is JAX). Try giving them a call @ 800-445-4625 and ask where the closest officer recruiter is. What designator(s) are you interested in?

    online degree and ocs

Well, if both guys got into OCS, they would know their designator heading in. The Navy won't send someone to OCS they don't have a spot for (in other words, if both were accepted to OCS as supply, both are going to have a supply billet after OCS). Just sh!tpicking 'cuz it's monday morning...

    2nd-class or 3rd-class Swim Test for SNA's???

You'll take the 3rd class swim test with everyone else. I don't think you'll take the 2nd class @ OCS(I didn't hear of any SNA/SNFOs rolling because they failed the 2nd class), but you'll definitely have other swim sessions while all the non-aviators sit on their ass in their rooms.

    OCS as an Internship

Yeah, they like to throw the word "internship" around at career fairs, mainly because a lot of students are looking for a summer internship. The fact that both of these happen in the summer is probably where the similarities end. Here's the thing, as an intern, you're doing a job for the...

    OCS in PRT

Not right off the bat. If you're not progressing, your class team will be concerned, mainly because they want you to be passing (excellent low) by the mid-PRT. That way if something strange happens like a sprained ankle and you go med down, they can sub the mid-PRT scores for the Out-PRT...

    OCS in PRT

For the in-PRT, Probationary will do the trick (unless they've upped it a bit in the past few years). It will earn you some extra attention, but it won't be enough to roll you right then and there. For a male 20-24: 37 pushups 46 curlups 13:30 1.5 mile run And yes...people have...

    DELL Intel Core DUO computers

Ok, this isn't specific to being in the military, but right now, Dell has some monster deals on Intel Core Duo computers. For instance, you can get a laptop with a 15.4" screen, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB hardrive for $799 (you can customize it too). I was pricing a Vaio @ about the same specs, and it...

    depth perception

I passed the depth perception. The test was the one with rows of cirlces and you're supposed to pick out which one is jumping out at you. That's fine, I would just look from one end of the line to the other to see which one was different, rather than look at the row as a whole. What didn't...

Oil Changing instructions. Man vs. Woman

Not if you have USAA Exactly. The existence Debit Cards make Checks at the register a pain in the ass for the cashier and the people waiting in line. Women using checks at the check out line is somewhat excusable, because I think it's in their biology or something, but a man toting his...

    How are my chances?(Juvy history)

These two statements conflict...where are you in your academic studies? That said, you can argue how much weight the GPA carries in your application, but look, a high GPA isn't going to hurt you, so do your best. Sounds like you're trying for Marines, have you thought about the PLC program...

    Bdcp Nupoc

Not likely. Since it looks like you're too old for Nuke, you won't be magically eligible once you're an intel or crypto (now IW) select prior to comissioning. While after comissioning it's technically possible, I haven't seen anybody selected by Subs on the lateral transfer board in the last 3...

    Age Waiver?

Right 27+4 = 31 There was a guy in our OCS class who was turning 31 (prior service) in February (we commissioned in Dec), and he was sweating it because it meant he could only roll twice. He finished with us, so it was all good.
  40. Thisguy

    Bdcp Nupoc

I don't know how competitive things have gotten, but I don't think a 2.8 is the end of the world. You could wait until the end of this semester and then apply (NR interviews happend practically every month), or go ahead and apply now. I saw a guy get to the interview with a 2.8 in Comp Sci...

I think you might need to pass just to be eligible for the Unrestricted Line. What did your recruiter say? If it's something you need, I would play it on the safe side and go to a civilian optometrist.

    Age Waiver?

That's impressive, a threadjack on the first reply. To answer your question, if you're going the OCS/PLC/OCC route, it's determined when you apply. To the original thread, I haven't heard of an age waiver unless you're prior service. Also, don't be so quick to assume NFOs spend the same...

Will enlisted Intel experience boost BDCP package

Do it because you want to, not because you think it'll make a stronger case for BDCP. A lot of prior enlsited don't do something related to their rate, so they're going to be "retrained anyway." Is there a reason you're delaying your studies? I would think staying in school and applying...
