    Pilot from USNA

The Navy breaks their officers into three categories: Unrestricted Line Officers, Restricted Line Officers, and Staff Corps officers. Generally, Line Officers carry out the mission of the Navy: Sea Power (If anyone recites the gouge from OCS, you're a homo). This applies to both the...

    June 2006 Lat xfer board

Hate your designator? Deadline is March 31st. Interesting note: I haven't seen Aviation on the LOI the last few years, and they've typically had only 1-3 spots per board for NFO and Pilot (each). Maybe there's a handful more this time around...

    Pilot from USNA

If you mean a lawyer for the Navy in the JAG corps, then USNA probably isn't the best option. If you go to USNA and don't get a pilot slot, you probably won't get the chance to go to law school and be a JAG. In case you really, really, really like to plan ahead: www.jag.navy.mil

    Pilot from USNA

You'd be surprised. My sophomore year college roommate was 5'7" 155, and was a middle linebacker in high school. Needless to say, his team sucked pretty bad. Even funnier was seeing a 5'7" 155 pound guy think he could kick anyones ass just because he played football in high school.

For starters, you don't get "jet pilot" out of any commissioning source, just pilot.

    Tips on Navy OCS???

Medical NPQ and getting attrited are two different things. I'm talking about not being able to attrite someone based on sh!tty performance. You have to do something really stupid like get a DUI or look at porn on the CMC's computer to get attrited.

    Tips on Navy OCS???

Personally, I think that happened a while ago (I went through in 2002). The fact that it's nearly impossible to be attrited from OCS means that anybody who wipes their ass right can get through.

    Dilemna

I made them up. No, really, I got them from the message announcing which officers were selected for lateral transfer. http://www.npc.navy.mil/NR/rdonlyres/3DE045F5-4CD4-48E5-964A-42AF67516DA5/0/NAV05304.txt I don't know if these numbers are typical, because end strength needs are...

    Tips on Navy OCS???

Three weeks may seem like "not enough" but keep in mind, the DI kinda disappeared after week 7 under the old format...which was drill comp. Now that he doesn't need to teach rifle drill (which took up a lot of time), he can concentrate on mashing the sh!t out of you. For any "old timers"...

Wall Street Journal Article on Army Boot Camp Changes...

Point taken. I just thought it was sad they ran 60% less because too many people were getting injured. Also, in my original post, people would fail the IN PRT which for a male 20-24 is: 37 pushups, 42 curlups, and a 13:00 1.5 mile run (I think). That is the minimum standard...

Wall Street Journal Article on Army Boot Camp Changes...

That's their own fvcking fault. Seriously, where do these guys (and girls) think they're going? Summer camp? The recruiters need to beat it into their head that they need to show up in shape. Anyone who has been to OCS and seen people roll at the in-prt or get shin splints from running...

Can being dive qualified open up more shore billets?

So you're saying that there are Officers who have been to Nuclear Power School, prototype, sub school, and on top of that the Basic Diviing Officer's course? I never heard the pitch for subs that there's a diving option.
  21. Thisguy

Can being dive qualified open up more shore billets?

Do you mean fast attack subs? If so, yes, I've heard of that (in fact, there's someone on this board who was prior deep sea who did just that), but those are spec ops divers, not submariners. They're just along for the ride.
  22. Thisguy

Can being dive qualified open up more shore billets?

EOD guys go after commissioning, and I know CEC has some dive billets as well. Bottom line: I don't think subs has any dive billets, so there's no way the sub detailer is going to hook you up with that.

Wall Street Journal Article on Army Boot Camp Changes...

Another part of the army's problem is that their numbers are far greater than the Navy's. I know on the Officer side the Navy commissions roughly 3,000 a year, whereas the army commissions something crazy like 12,000 a year. The problem is two-fold I guess. They have the most slots to fill...

Civilian looking to apply for OCS

Short answer is: yes. The maximum age for commissioning is 35 (less for some designators). With all the paperwork and the process, the prospects of you getting to OCS and finishing before turning 36 is slim.

    Far Sighted PRK?

That's odd. I've never heard that far-sighted PRK had a less chance of success. I'd go in for a consult and hear it from an optometrist that does the procedure rather than an OSO.

Using the GI Bill on active duty

Seeing as how TA only pays $250 per credit with a max of 12 credits a year, that's a whole lot of out of pocket expense. Are you saying that active duty can't draw the full $1034/mo that the GI Bill currently pays?

That varies. You're not gonna just put "supply officer" on your resume, you'll list bullets and be prepared to elaborate during the job interview (yes, you'll have to interview, you can't just whip your cock out on the table and say "I was in the supply corps baby, give me some sugar). For...
