I brown bagged at TBS. The above was the experience I had for at least the first one or two nights. It depends on how much bullshit your peers put you through. Like I said, bring food and patience. You'll end up putting your peers through bullshit by the end of the POI.
On my two trips to the pool I made sure the straps were cinched uncomfortably tight to keep some tension on the buckle. It released smoothly/quickly everytime.
7 months ago in the HT's they weren't allowing any Navy to Marine Corps transfers. I know a number of guys who tried. Reason given was that it wasn't so much the Marine Corps not taking them, rather the Navy not letting them go.
None of it should give you trouble as long as you study. The problem is that the people in the program are overall a talented group of people. Perhaps they haven't ever had to work all that hard (in comparison as to how hard they'll have to work to get where they're trying to go).
In other...
I knew an AF guy in primary who, when asked what he wanted to fly, would casually reply, "The Space Shuttle". He got a few looks but most people thought it was funny.
I was all wrapped around the axel about getting sick because I heard everybody does in Fams. Self fulfilling prophesy: I puked my toenails up up on Fam1 in the 34. Take a ginger pill, concetrate on making the plane do what you want it to do, and really try and develop your SA. You'll be to...
I commissioned early summer of '06 and went to TBS in Jan '07. In the meantime I worked on the loading dock at a warehouse, and it sucked. That was not uncommon for my peers. Some also decided that a master's was a better gig and few did that.
My wife and I PCS'd from GR to Quantico. We did a full DITY, but we went through the PPO at Selfridge ANG base in Detroit. The ladies there were helpful and knew what they were talking about. It's closer than Great Lakes.
...because I went through TBS with a guy who had wings. He was "the guy with wings" the entire time we were there.
I'm not talking as if it is some big negative...it just increases your visibility in the company and therefore, if you suck, people will notice it. That is all.
I can't imagine showing up there with wings would get you a pass. However, I'm sure your chances of spending a year plus in Mike Co. like the rest of these poor knuckleheads would be significantly reduced.
Having wings at TBS will skyline you. You don't want to be a douche with everybody...
I saw the same thing at Pensacola Regional going through security. The serviceman going having to remove his ribbons was the Skipper of NASP. I had to get new shooting badges because I was carrying on my hang-up bag and was made to leave them behind. It sucked.
My two lengthy pool waits involved Navy induced group punishment just as much as Marine Corps group punishment. Is it frustrating as hell? Yes. Was it still a good deal? Hell yes. All things being equal, I guess I'd be with Mike on this one. It's not so bad to have to take off the skates and...
I went to a big school and had an incredible experience there. Life was good in school. 3.5 hours of class a day is full time! I took my Marine Corps commission and now I'm in the same place as my peers who took the academy/VMI/elCid/Aggie route.
You can get your military experience in the...
There is very little attrition at TBS. OCS= screen and evaluate. TBS = Teach you how to be an Officer of Marines...while being evaluated.
Look, if you're not dumb as a sack of rocks you'll probably be just fine. Remember, you're a commissioned officer at TBS, you can't be just 'washed out'.
Same same for Christmas '06. I thought I was going to get charged 17 days and be in the hole. Never happened. Just be prepared to be charged. If you're not...merry f***ing Christmas.
I'm amazed at how strong the anti-leather crew is among studs at whiting. The other day I heard a story relayed of the new Commodore correcting a student for wearing his leather jacket. I find that highly suspect. People get genuinely upset when I ask for the reg that says only winged...
I voted yes because I use my own whiteboard when I have to draw a system. I don't know how the rest of you manage to draw on a vertical board while stooping over that desk. If I do it at home it actually looks like the system I'm supposed to be briefing. I'll label the components but I have...
Seriously. Don't throw away the opportunity to be a Marine because your buddy isn't happy in flight school. I know lots of people from all branches who aren't happy here. Flight school is a red ass for everybody. The navy and coasties don't get a special program. Consider your source...
Exactly. :thumbup_1 Like the Marine who got shitfaced with Jose Canseco the day after his winging at a bar in Miami. Cops found him afew hours later in his boxers running down the sidewalk while bleeding from the head.
