    Huey (or Cobra) input wanted

There will be smashing in each community for new guys. The severity will be based on your attitude and the senior peer groups perceptions of you. Just know this: as a boot in any community decisions are being made regarding YOUR future that many nuggets can't fathom. Within your first 4-6...

Paths for a Naval Aviator starting late?

I picked up a flight spot (Marines) at 26 and still had school to finish. You're not really all that late. I didn't go there, but the majority of the people I know who went to ERAU wish they went somewhere cheaper and more fun. Particularly after meeting people who went to a state school in...

    Single officers with dogs

Nobody loves your dog as much as you. Watching somebody's dog for a week as a favor is okay once in awhile. If it becomes the go to solution it gets old. As for fleet life supporting having a dog: my squadron is not deploying this year but I'll have been gone for about 5 months by the end of the...

Can History Majors be Fighter Pilots?

I'm a history major. Not a "fighter pilot", but I believe the question has been answered: You can get into the flight program as a history major. From there it's up to you and the Navy.

    Wiley X Fingerless Gloves discount?

We were issued them from through flight-E. There is some silliness concerning factory cut-off fingers being okay, but if you do it yourself that's a no-go.

High School Junior interested in PLC

I was accepted into OCS while still at a community college. I obviously had to transfer to a 4 year institution but it's not impossible. That was also in 2003: good job market and we were about to invade Iraq. Your mileage may vary.

Best Liberty Ports: What's to know

Abu Dhabi Clean. Priced like a major city in the states. Cabs are great and there's no crime. Marina Mall is huge and has about any high-end item you'd want. Abu Dhabi Mall is much closer to the pier and is more like a "normal" American mall. Must see: Emirates Palace is incredible and has...

Best Liberty Ports: What's to know

Sihanoukville, Cambodia Small Euro-trash/ Cambodian beach community. It's dirt cheap ($20 will get you a tuk-tuk driver for the day), about .50 for 22oz Tiger Beer, $25 for a hotel room). Go to the beach, there lots of clubs and stuff right on the water. Most everybody starts out at the...

Palafox was definitely becoming the spot when I left a few years ago. I can only imagine it's even better now. I definitely second getting a house instead of the APT. You also want to live where you drink...and do alot of it. Flight school is fun. More fun that you think it is when you're...

    NAVY Initial Flight Screening (IFS)

    Legal Officer School

NavAir, no dice on bags. Navy shoes wore aquaflage, pilots wore khakis and talked shit about shoes wearing aquaflage. Marines wore cammies. There's a small coffee mess in the back of the classroom so that does help with the power point. When I was there the staff was doing the 5 Guys...

    Legal Officer School

I did the Legal O-Course in Norfolk last spring. I'm definitely glad I went. It's a pretty full three weeks but it's not hard by any means. The days were way shorter than a normal squadron workday. I think the best thing I did was to stay after class each day and do the homework. It kept me...

    Summary Court-Marshall- a no go?

Agreed. It's a horrible idea. I've been told that counsel for the accused can be in the room taking notes for appeal purposes but can't communicate with the accused without a finding of guilty becoming a federal conviction.
  27. DocT

    Summary Court-Marshall- a no go?

A SCM can count as a conviction if the accused elects to provide his own defense counsel and they are present during the SCM. The accused has no absolute right to defense at a SCM so he'd have to pay out of pocket for one.
  28. DocT

Motion Sickness: a barrier for a potential aviator?

I got sick on fam 1 in the 34 and a little queasy during PA's. I took ginger pills before every flight and have never felt a twinge of sickness in a helo (with the exception of vertigo, which I think makes everyone feel sick). The heavy tasking that came with actually flying took my mind off...

    Age waivers for Marines

I asked this question in Pensacola as an older dude (winged at 31). The answer I was given is that there was a study done at one time that determined younger guys have less trepidation about "dangerous" flying than older guys. While there may be some truth to that, I suspect that the exact...

USNR To USMC Date of Rank

I went to a CC for a few years, and was accepted into PLC (I know, different program) while there. The only advice I would give is to be in close contact with admissions and advisors in your degree program at UF. I wasn't and ended up losing transfer credits from my CC. Good Luck.
