1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

Just got back from taking my exam. Went in cold turkey and left with a 3/4/4 41. Being that I'm coming from ROTC I believe I need all 5's and a 50 to "pass" (correct me if I'm wrong). Anyways, I plan on studying for the next month and getting some solid scores...plausible?

quick question about NROTC college program

MMR is alive and thriving! It's actually a pretty good deal right now that is only getting better. Last I checked guys were getting about 8K in SIP per yr. I'm here at SUNY now in the unit (2/C), so the OP can PM me with any specific questions. @helolumpy: We got the bigger boat:icon_tong

    The Perpetual Prowler Tribute

A bit off topic... What role exactly is the Prowler playing now in OIF? I can't really imagine and feasible anti-air threat that would be causing problems now that the "bad guys" have chosen a war of attrition.

quick question about NROTC college program

No scholarship=No commission...unless you get picked up for advanced standing, which I have only seen happen once. However, being that you are a sophomore, you only have one semester to pick up a scholarship or get on advanced standing. Make getting that scholarship your goal! What school??

enlisting first then applying to be an officer

"Well if I did NROTC I would feel like I skipped and cheated my way to becoming an officer. I want to earn it. I don't want to do NROTC and get into the Navy and automatically be above the people who worked hard to get through Boot camp and their training. It just doesn't seem fair to me. This...

    ASTB for Mid's

Hey all, I'm headed into my 2/c year and believe I will be taking the exam this winter..(correct me if I'm wrong) Anyways, I was just wondering how our exam results weighed in with service selection. It seems like a pretty big deal for the OCS/BDCP applicants; is it "pass/fail" for us, or...

1 dead, 1 hurt in recruiting office shooting

This is just horrible. Pray everyone...please. Seems like were moving more and more towards a society where rationality doesn't apply when it comes to one's boldness. Especially when it comes to feelings towards the military. This is REALLY sad.

    N.Korea nuclear test

Mods, feel free to lock if this is incorrectly posted or its too early to throw this kind of news around. As for the story, all I can say if "wow". If this is true, they just took it another level. Serious stuff. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,521616,00.html

That bird is no joke. Has the '60 pretty much replaced it on the Navy side, or are there any future plans for it?

    NROTC/College Program options

Don't forget about the 3 and 3.5 yr scholarships that are available. I went in as a CP'er, worked hard and stayed involved in my battalion; and myself and a bunch of other Mids got picked up for 3.5 yr scholarships after our first yr. Perk to that was Uncle Sam gave us back pay for the spring...

Your chances are....(penalty box for those who can't help asking about their chances)

From the outside looking in, seems like your biggest stains are your GPA and PRT scores. See what you can do about those, and if your recruiter says nothing; shoot the ball and hope for the best. Good luck!

    Super Bowl XLIII Fly Over

Looks like TB's in vid. Is there a certain time they are supposed to actually do the flyover? When watching the game it seemed as though it came it kind of late..

    Lost military I.D

Thanks folks, but your acronyms confuse me. i'm only a Mid (3/c), and being that I am on winter break, I don't really have any command to go to about this problem till next week. FWIW, it is a reservist I.D, not a smartcard. Thanks.

    VP-17/USMC/SS Mayaguez Incident 1975

Awesome stuff folks! My heart goes to those who served and lost life that day. Question though: Why is this such an "unpopular" (not talked about) conflict? This is my first time hearing of such an incident and that surprises me because so many were KIA/MIA. Post-Vietnam have anything to do with it?

    OCS or BDCP?

If your in the position submit a BDCP package (in school) right now I'd say go for it; your going to have to go to OCS either way and the BDCP benefits definitely wouldn't hurt at the moment. If you don't get accepted you can always apply for OCS after you complete school. Good luck

    NROTC w/o the Scholarship

I just picked up a PNS scholarship last week after my first yr. Funny thing is it applies to my last (spring 08) semester, so the Navy will be giving me reimbursement for what I've paid. So somehow I got a 3.5 yr scholarship although I applied for a 3 yr  Anyone heard of this before...

    NROTC vs. Academy

You can answer those questions. Now as for our suggestions, I believe we'd all be more than happy to throw some suggestions your way. If your looking for your "normal" college experience , I'd say go rotc. It all comes down to personal preference. Good Luck.

B-2 down in Guam, Crew ejected safely.

Link: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,332038,00.html As always, the seat saved some lives. Good job on the crews part. This recent accident raises a question though: Is the recent string of "bad luck" for the AF going to have any affect on the recent bickering AF brass was making...

    CH-53 video

I can second. I actually met a 53 pilot who this happened to while in Indonesia during relief ops. I can't remember name or rank but he was speaking at my H.S to students, I think he was an instructor and he actually flew a Bell 206 onto our football field...

    Mmr, Bdcp, Nrotc, Ocs?

Maritime eh? Well, welcome to the club. Have you considered joining the rotc unit over here while doing the dual MMR program? If you get the scholarship you'll be getting your monthly stipend along with you MMR money. You'll have your CG license, Navy commission, and hopefully you SNA/NFO...

    To all Naval O's

Alright, I think i've located the source of my problem after reading all of your answers. I guess it all just starts with attitude. My reasons for posting such questions probably stem from my high school career. Had about a 3.6 gpa throughout my 4 years, but I never really worked hard for...

    To all Naval O's

Greetings folks!! First post on aw, been on awhile, but this is my first post. I'm heading to SUNY Maritime in Bronx, NY this fall and plan on taking NROTC as a CP, then hopping on the scholarship train. Before I start this journey towards my dream of being an officer I just wanted to throw...
