Also, does anyone know what the policy is on switching from SNFO to SNA? My recruiter told me to apply for both, and accept whatever one I get because I would get paid more while still in school under the BDCP. He said both positions go through the same training and you have the ability to switch from SNFO to SNA at some point, but he didn't really elaborate. That advice kinda goes against everything I've read on this website, everyone says put SNA and only SNA if you want to go pilot. Anyone know how to switch once you get accepted?
Yeah, all of this has been discussed a crap ton on this forum. Use the search function to find out more examples and more accurate information for yourself but I will try and answer from what I have read previously. You can either be the top of your class and offered to switch from NFO to NA (not written in stone so it still might not happen) or later down the road after you are completely qualified (typically after first sea tour) you can request a lat transfer. Once again though neither of these are a guarantee so you may never get the opportunity to be a NA after being an NFO. They do essentially the same training through API (I believe) after that they are on their individual tracks. It appears you OR is correct with their statements but it seems to me that he/she is basing that off of what they have talked to you about and what the best chance to give you a PRO REC would be. I think you do not understand what everyone is saying when the say if you want to be a pilot put NA and NA only. That is for people that do not want to be anything but a NA and would not be happy being a NFO or maybe they would be but want to see if they can get a shot at being NA. If this is you then that is what you should do. If you would be happy being a NA or NFO then put both. If you want to be an officer then put your top 3 as this should give you the best chance of receiving a PRO REC. The point is picking the job or jobs you will be the happiest doing. Plenty of people have put down 3 choices and been PRO REC for 3, 2, or just 1 of those choices. You need to decide what is best for you and nobody else can make that decision and base that decision on what you want to do the most i.e. NA, Flying, Officer, etc....
