FY-09 STA-21 Orders Received?

status is still 'requested'

Hey there everyone. Long time listener, first time caller.

I was freaking out for all of december because when the STA-21 results came out my ship was underway for a month and I didn't get my medical stuff done until right before Xmas stand down (HM3 Garrison at NASNI medical is awesome). I finally got qualified though, and my orders are requested. From what I read in previous posts it shouldn't take more than a week to get my orders on BUPERS online. I hope that's the case with me. I need those orders ASAP to get all my transfer stuff taken care of.

My upper chain of command has been very supportive, but that hasn't really trickled down to the lower part. This entire process has been way harder than it should have been because we were always too 'busy' for me to get enough time to get my appointments in. To top it all off we had a guy get picked up for OCS and get transferred a few weeks later. Everyone keeps asking me when I'm leaving.

Well, enough griping. I'm just getting antsy while I wait for those orders. Nice to meet you everyone. By the way I'm a GM2(SW) on a DDG in San Diego.

Welcome to AW BigBad - orders take anywhere between 7 to upwards of 12 days. Pretty frustrating I know. When were orders requested?

Just to let you know, my orders were requested on the 19th and I didn't receive them until the 8th. I am sure it was because of all the holidays. All in all though, it took about 10 business days.

SAA Long time listener, first time caller. I reveived my orders several weeks ago, but they do not have an arrive NET date. Orders only state that I can arrive NLT 20 Feb 09, so I set my flight out of Jax, Fl for the 18th just to be safe.... is this going to be an issue? I haven't had any luck contacting OTC BOOST and getting a response, other than what uniform is prescribed.

My orders were requested on 6Jan, so about 5 days ago (3 business days)

I'm trying to get my paperwork done ahead of time to leave ASAP

The only issue I see is the fact that you will be so bored. Bring books and a laptop. You can go to the E club but something even better are the two casinos about 45 minutes from Newport. I remember reporting on the NET date and wished I would have checked in closer to the last minute.

I have a question for those who have orders, do they let you choose if you want to move to your school location before or after BOOST/NSI? or do your orders state to PCS to your school area then TAD to Rhode Island?

doesn't say anything about it exactly but it does say to detach from your command in Jan 09. We are in Oak Harbor like you are. We leave this coming Wed. and they are moving our stuff the next two days.

PCS move

I'm sure that there's a thread about this already but I can't find it. When you guys do your PCS move are you shipping your stuff to your final destination (NROTC unit) or what? NSI is a TAD before our final destination correct?

If you do not go to BOOST, then yes NSI is TAD only. BOOST orders are PCS orders though. I am not sure on personal property. Sorry

I will throw my two cents in here. I have been going back and forth with this and my command. It seems like we will have our stuff shipped to our NROTC unit IF you are going to NSI...if you are going to BOOST I am not sure because I have not had to deal with that. From my understanding there is nothing that would keep you from moving completely to your NROTC unit BEFORE going to NSI, also if you move before NSI all the single folk (like me) will not loose our BAH at NSI because we will be living at our final destination. If you wait till after NSI to move to where you are going to be located then you will loose your BAH while you are in NSI due to the fact that you will be living in government quarters. That is what i gather and I am sure if wrong someone will let me know...hope this helps.

Do we have room for a guitar at NSI? Just a question that I figure someone on here will know. Thanks

I didn't see that post before, but I'm in a world of hurt if we decide to go to those casinos. Not saying I spend massive amounts, but I like to try and win money put it that way. Oh well, we are going to have a BLAST!!!!!!!!!!! Cannot wait to meet everyone. Later!

You might be able to fit it in your locker if you don't have a suitcase or anything in it, but it would be close. All of your personal things have to be locked up or the staff will take it.
