The pilot of the RF-4 came through Randolph T-38 PIT back around '94 or '95. I was an IP there, and he gave his version of the story to us while showing us the Tomcat video. I don't remember enough details as clearly as I should, but needless to say, his version is very harsh on the Tomcat...

The USAF has always lived by ILS,... and we're slowly becoming a GPS community, too. PAR equipment in the CONUS is going the way of the dodo, as combat controller units need the parts. Personally, if it's down to mins, I would only do a PAR with Navy controllers. USAF controller just don't...

I grew up under the traffic pattern at Ellington Field. My dad always had us ride the storms out. My mom's still there, and won't leave. Looks like the eye will pass right over her. I'm getting updates from her. She said the top of the Hilton there on Clear Lake blew off within the last hour.

Update: I spoke with HQ FAA today. The 10 Nov 08 is the date the new rule is released,... however it doesn't get "implemented" for another 60 days after that. I don't get it, but they say it's some sort of law. Bureaucratic process, I guess.

As per FAR 91.119, "... over any open air assembly of persons...", it's 1000' above the hightest obstacle within a 2000' horizontal radius. Speed would be 250 KIAS, unless your manuals prescribe higher. For example, 300 KIAS is listed in the T-38 flight manual, so that's what we use. Now...

El Douge is correct. I led in a 4-ship,... er,... division,... of T-38's. I flew the U-2ST out today. As we departed, we rejoined on the EAA Cessna 180 photo ship, and got about 30 minutes of photos and video. Expect to see them posted somewhere. When EAA sends me the pics, I'll post any good...
