    F-16 pilot angers civilian pilot

No, Wink, you are wrong. Being "used to it" has nothing to do with it. First, if it was a new 2Lt, he's not used to it. But I'm betting it was a seasoned Viper IP, as I don't believe a 2Lt student would do it,... twice. Whoever it was has seen it before as is a bit pissed about it. Like I get...

    F-16 pilot angers civilian pilot

I googled "Patrick McCall pilot lawyer", and got this: http://www.patrickmccall.com/ Don't know if it's the same guy, but the website says he is a pilot.

    DB Cooper's Parachute Found?

A4s, On the 727, what do they call that airstream-activated lock that prevents the rear door from opening in flight? Isn't there a nickname like the "DB lock" or "Cooper lock"? That doesn't sound right, but I remember there was some name for it.

    Into the Sunset - VS-31 1942-2008

When does the last S-3B in the Navy quit flying? I got an orientation flight on one in '96 at VS-41 with an IP named Mike Bell. That was good fun. Seems like it would be a cross-country machine.

Video: ORM snobs need not apply to A-10's

Agreed. The A-10 was the only other jet in the USAF I wanted to go fly at some point in my career. Last week, I was at Edwards looking at the one-and-only two-seat A-10 that was built. For me, that would be the ultimate privately owned warbird.

Got it. Thanks. FYI, I did try to search for "TRA", but it wasn't enough characters, and came up with no hits.

I like this. I've never heard it put quite this simple, but I have to steal it. HarrierDude, do you mind? BTW, I know a guy who sucks at all three: what should be done to him??

UAVs, not just an Air Force gig anymore

My squadron has been "in theatre" continuously since July 1990. Does your squadron maintain a continuous presence there? Or do you come back home for a year or so? I've also had plenty of my pilots ask to do a quick turn, and get back to the Sand Box. It's not uncommon for our guys to spend 8-9...

UAVs, not just an Air Force gig anymore

Well put, Flash. And you mentioning the FMV has me ready to type about 2 pages worth of stuff,... but I'll restrain myself. There's a lot that can done with that, if employed properly. The ISR machine has an insatiable appetite, and they always want more, even though they can't "digest" the...

Is the PPL actually worth the cost?

Look into getting a Sport Pilot rating, if you can find a school near you that has Light Sport Aircraft. You can do it much quicker, and cheaper. I'm currently flying an Evektor SportStar (which is an LSA), and it's way more fun than any Cessna 172.

Military Flight Physical Counting with the FAA

I believe it's all part of the Part 61 change that's coming down. If so, expect it to take effect 10 Sept 2008. I tried calling the guy at FAA HQ yesterday to ask some questions, but he's out of the office for a few days. I'll post when I get in touch with him.

    Contact Lenses

I got on the USAF's contact lens program when it was brand new back in 1990. They are way better than glasses, and I've never had a negative issue with them. Highly recommended. No, we cannot wear them in the pressure suit.

    Kingsville or Meridian?

Now how did I know that you'd somehow have a picture of that jet?? My folks are from Laredo, and I drove through Beeville lots, going from Houston to Laredo as a kid to visit grandparents.

    Kingsville or Meridian?

A4s, They converted Beeville into a prison back in the early 90's. I think it's labeled as such on the Sectional Chart. But at least the TA-4J is still parked in front of Beeville City Hall.

Boeing Tanker: Beans, Bullets, Oil, and politics .. and did we mention: politics ??

Just N-G's track record on Global Hawk should have disqualified them. If they manage the Tanker program like G-H, we'll be spending a bunch of American dollars more than we should.

Northwest Airlines and Delta Airlines Merger

I jumpseated today on Delta, and the two pilots said that NWA's demands were not even close to what Delta would accept. And Delta's pilots have said they will NOT use an arbitrator. If it can't be agreed upon from the get-go, the deal's off.

Sooo,.... I guess you prefer Rolex?
  31. HuggyU2

    Which watch?

The new watch I'm designing for the U-2 folks is a Breitling Aerospace. The new Aerospaces finally have a backlight. Plus it's about 2mm larger in diameter than the old version we did back in 2000. A great watch. Not to big or heavy. Just right. Looks good in a flight suit or silk suit.

B-2 down in Guam, Crew ejected safely.

mb1k, Thanks for clarifying the B-2 crewing. I didn't know they flew augmented. That B-1 accident you're referring to: wasn't that the one that took big birds around '86-'89? If I remember right, there were six in the jet; 4 ejected ok.
  33. HuggyU2

B-2 down in Guam, Crew ejected safely.

I'm not positive on this, but I don't believe they ever fly with an augmented crew. It was originally designed for a 3rd crew member, and when they pulled that station out of the design, it gave them the room for the famous barcalounger. However, the 2 pilots just trade off taking naps.
  34. HuggyU2

B-2 down in Guam, Crew ejected safely.

You mean like a 4-ship of F-22's? As stated above, it is actually $2B+. At that price, I'm figuring that when you pull the ejection handles, the seat doesn't fire, but a video comes up on all your cockpit MFD's of the Wing Commander shaking his head and waving his finger side-to-side, saying...

I was never a fighter pilot, so I'm not much help. However, watching from the grandstands, I don't recall them G-limiting those guys much. The Eagle had tail cracking years ago, and I seem to recall a short period where there were restrictions, but they were short lived. Hacker could give...

    Graduation Flyover

Yes, Pisser's flyby is probably the best done by a US Military jet, at a football game, in the modern era. And he only got a two-week grounding. I don't know the guy, but I hear he is quit a character.
