    Navy vs Air Force

I briefly addressed this once, but quite frankly,... no, AF officers really don't "bash" on the Navy/Marines much at all. OK,... do a "search" on an AF forum, and I'm sure you'll find something. But it's really a much larger,... MUCH LARGER,... sport for the Navy/Marine guys. That's actually...

Renegade One: here's another, The Dorrito Jet: crunch all you want,... we'll make more! porw004, you won't find Viper pilots calling their jet "the Falcon". The USAF names jets, usually without the input of folks below the rank of Brigadier General. The F-16 guys wanted Viper, and the Generals...

    Aircraft's loving nicknames

To the best of my knowledge, the U-2 never got an "official" callsign from the USAF: Dragon Lady The Article The Deuce T-38: The White Rocket Oh by the way,... within the 9th Recon Wing, the SR-71 was also known as "The Whistlin' Shithouse" by non-SR types. :D

    Things to do in Vance

When I visit Enid (which isn't much), I always go by Chicaro's. Call ahead with a group, and ask Gary if there's any chance he could do up a meal for you. His food has always been great, and his hospitality is fine. He has a bad rep with the base, that is undeserved in my opinion. Just...

NAS DALLAS = The Good 'ol Days

Those folks on Jefferson Ave got a good look at a T-38 back around '94. A couple of B-2 pilots were departing Runway 35, when they coughed a motor. The runway there was paved such that the last 2000' was concrete, compared to the previous asphalt section. Well, said T-38 pilots were above bug...

NAS DALLAS = The Good 'ol Days

I flew right by NAS Dallas about 4 weeks ago, while going into DFW in an American Airlines jet. Brought back some good memories of some good RON's there. Those big antennas right off the south end of the runway were still there too. Didn't an F-4 hit them long ago? That was before my time.

    T-45 Mishap

In the spirit of interservice bilingualism,.... in the USAF, - the SIB is the Safety Investigation Board, and its goal is to prevent the future occurance. - the AIB is the Accident Investigation Board, and it blames folks. Caveat: I'm not, nor have I ever been, a "Safety" guy. And, since...

    B-2 Crash Video

MB, I've never been a "safety guy", but your Wing Safety folks should be able to obtain it from the USAF Safety channels. I'm guessing there is cross-talk between the two. If not, p.m. me, and I'll give you the name/DSN number of our safety office, which you can pass Kingsville flight safety.

    AF Honchos Fired

Sort of. My take is that the F-22 is indicative of the fact that the USAF leadership blew off The Administration's direction: fight the current "war" in the Middle East. That war requires ISR,... and lots of it. The F-22 is great for a war with China,... but that's not going to happen anytime...

Huh?! Sorry for the bad info: I have an AF bud who got hired by them about 8 months ago. Thanks for the update. I'll have to call and find out what will happen to his billet/assignment. I believe he's at Whidbey in training right now (in the Prowler).

Credibility of Navy Leadership assailed on Hill

Although this has been said in many different ways, many times before, it's still the best post of the week. I was thinking the same thing, actually. Welcome to the new DoD. It's going to become a homogenized military over time, as the P.C. non-warriors continue to assert their authority.

United and US Airways looking to merge

Agreed. What investors are going to look at the issues involved with merging these seniority lists, and then say "yes, I'll invest in that!" ? Ironic, though, should they merge: no longer being an ALPA airline could work against the USAir pilots. I'm sure Stephen Wolf is still chuckling...

    VANCE decision for a Marine

My point is Vance doesn't suck, and they need to look at it in that light. Maybe growing up in New York City doesn't prepare you for Small Town USA. Maybe Pensacola is more "desirable". So, to summarize this thread: you should probably go to Vance. Seriously, A4's comments are pretty good overall. The point about joint training being the future is also well taken, IMO. But all the whining about working 12 hour days, 6 days a week, crappy location, blah, blah,... throw...

    T-38 mishap Sheppard, AFB

Additional info: the 155+fuel is correct for a T-38A. The T-38C's are a touch heavier, and I suppose they are closer to 160. Don't know for sure. For a T-38 no-flap, add 15 KIAS to the flapped speed,... and double your landing roll distance. I believe the F-102/104/106 were even faster on final.

    The Ultimate UAV!!!

Climbing to 90,000' and staying there for 5 years is pretty impressive. But it takes payload to do anything. And 1000# of payload isn't much. As mentioned, it's only about 20%-25% of what a U-2 can carry. Now that you have your 1000# payload up there, what's going to power these electrical...

    F-16 pilot angers civilian pilot

SG, You are probably right. I didn't know for sure, but was referring to the "generic" VFR pilot that does it regularly in our MOA. I assumed Mr McCall hadn't, and called Center after the fact. In any case, I still feel it's wrong, irresponsible, and in this case, unnecessary due to the...
