NBC News hack Job on AR-15

That's why I'm a big fan of the NRA-ILA alerts. Gives a decent heads up on current and proposed legislation wrt to gun issues.

We can, but nowadays, will we? Not rhetorical, serious question.

Instead of taking the time for laser removal, why not have it tattooed over with skin color? I've heard that works too.

Long Tra'ng du'Kich -- A.K.A. WHITE FEATHER ... what caliber was his Winchester??

I remember reading an article shortly after his death that talked heavily about him using a Redfield 3x9 on a Winchester Model 70 .308. I was on a high school "field trip" to Quantico about that time so I'd hope the paper was pretty accurate. Side note, I've always heard that the shot he...

    2008 Bah

Sabre, just curious, but is there a large number of government houses and/or privatized housing in Whidby? I ask since having a large number of government houses will cause the BAH to drop, sometimes a good bit.

    2008 Bah

BAH is determined using a combination of rent out in town and the availability of government or private venture housing. Then they find a median price and go with that. Also, BAH is supposed to be used for rent, it's not intended to cover the price of a mortgage. So, based on the housing survey...

You might wanna check but I heard that Vaseline used to be part of flight gear issue when you checked in up there. If not, and from what I understand, you might want to pick some up.

    Don't worry, they're testing the feasibility of it. Plus, it's a UAV, so you'll get to fly one...with a joystick :icon_tong http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn3406

    Meds at OCS

Just hope you have a health and welfare like the one we had in boot camp. The RDC's came in while we were at chow, tossed every single thing in our division space. When I say toss, they actually tossed our racks over, pushed our lockers over, and threw our crap all over the space. It took us...

    Service Selection

Well, for sake of argument, you cannot be forced into Nuke. It's synonymous with sub duty, a person cannot be forced into it. Although it may have been his third choice, he still had to say he'd interview with the 4-star, actually pass his interview, and then say he'd do it. So, it's not like he...

    'New' IFS

I'm with LEL, I soloed at about 9 hours, went on my solo cross country at 21 hours. Basically all I did up to those nine hours was lots of power on/off stall recovery, pattern work, and simulated engine failures. Throw in some steep turns and visual navigation, and that's really about it...

    Attrition

Bingo. Just go in with that attitude and you should be fine. Big Navy has figured out a method to the madness, so even if you're in a class with a dude that has 1000 hours you both will be instructed the same and will be held to the exact same standards. Plus, they start you out at scratch and...

API Coming Soon To a Theater Near You

Two guys my week I selected, both wanted helos, both ended up going E2/C2 since they needed them that week and they both had mid-50's NSS. But yes, I agree, going tactical med-down, dumping a flight(s) just to hopefully "get" what you want is pretty crappy.

Theft by receiving = buying a stereo out of the back of some dude's car Not theft by receiving = buying a stereo that was stolen but then sold to a pawn shop, etc The first, a normal person would think something shady is going on, the second, it's kind of hard to have a good idea whether or...

    Chow

Freakin' recruits nowadays don't a "Service Week", which included a job for 7 days of working the galley, drill halls, etc. Money issues aside, I think that's a loss. Plus, the galleys are all in the individual ships, so gone are the days of standing in the snow during the Great Lakes winter at...

    Post Final Selection Benefits/Restrictions

Just talk to your safety officer/whoever is your boss now. You'll have to fill out and ORM eval on it and go over it with the safety guy. I don't think there is a Navy-wide policy on it, most stuff like that in my experience is just regulated by command.
  27. insanebikerboy

    Corpus or Whiting????

I've heard some stories about the Los Cruces det from guys here in 8 and it sounded like a pretty good time for flying. Granted, the slow times at Corpus would suck but the det itself would be a plus I'd think.

    Future Weapons

Yeah, now that guy actually, in my opinion, has some good advice. Plus the cool thing about him is that since he's the only one. If he wants a camera shot of him climbing a hill, he has to take the cameras up, hike back down, and then go back up. Plus, he just doesn't act like an idiot.

While I'm not gonna drink water from elephant poo, I personally think that some of the advice that Bear gives is asinine and wrong. I think it's going to get some people killed if they ever use it.

    Corpus or Whiting????

I had a buddy of mine in Corpus tape them for me :D
  32. insanebikerboy

    Corpus or Whiting????

That's a big reason why I liked Whiting. Not including the time off for Christmas, it took me just less than 5 months to finish primary. I had either a flight or a sim everyday, which I would have much rather done than having to wait 4-5 days between each event.

    P3 vs E6B

A plus I'd think about the E6B community is that the guys who are in it chose to be there. I can't remember ever hearing stories about anyone being "selected" for it. I'd think that'd equate to guys who are a lot happier about flying what they wanted to.

    Can Marines get their bubble?

For the guys I know, it's a combination of luck and timing (isn't everything?). At the Academy there were always a few spots that were available for guys to compete for, i.e., there were usually about 20 spots at jump school every summer. I also knew a few guys who set the stuff up on their own...

    Can Marines get their bubble?

About the easiest way I've seen people get anything (jump wings/air assault/dive/etc) is to do it as a Mid. Plus, the guys I know who did those schools called/asked around and found a class with an open slot and then lined up no-cost orders from the Navy. Otherwise, I think it's about...

Back Pain in Rotory Wing Community

I guess I'm with hscs on this, granted it's only the -57. I'm 6'3 and about 240 and I can sit all of the way back in the seat and still reach the cyclic no problem (none of the "hunch"). I do wear my belts locked and tight the whole time (very little wiggle room) so that might make a...

The Monster COD thread (homage to the C-2A Greyhound)

Curious, is the V-22 intended (or able) to operate off of small boys? I read where it's shorter in length than the -60 but it's 30-ish feet wider than the 60's rotor diameter. Are the flight decks on a destroyer/cruiser big enough for it to fit?

    LHD/San Diego Suggestions?

Or, get a big group of other mids and form a long line next to a group of Marines. Watch what happens, they'll eventually line up too, and then you just walk away. Have a good laugh :D

Stuck with a surface nuke cruise... suggestions?

My brother is an engine room supervisor on the Truman, so while it is the nuke side of the house, drop me your info and I'll let him know your on the way. If nothing else he may be able to show you some stuff about the engine room/reactor that you would have otherwise not seen.

Good excuse to not run distance

Do a mixture of high and low intensity runs, you're trying to increase your VO2 max. The shorter, high intensity increases the amount of O2 your blood can carry to your muscles (plus trains your fast twitch fibers). The longer, slower runs will let your body recover as well as teach yourself the...
