    Today's Navy or your Grandfather's

Some of the sim instructors talk about how they flew whatever aircraft was at the station they were stationed at. So, they flew alot of different airframes. Now that would be pretty cool.

    Enlisted vs. Commission question

I have no idea what boards look for but having done the E to O route myself, it's not easy. If you're working on an OCS spot and that's your ultimate goal, I'd strongly recommend not going in as enlisted. You can always enlist later on, I'd say get your package together now and see what the...

No offense and good luck, but lord knows seeing a sub for one day is definitely not what it's like to be on a sub. You will make good money though!

    long range practice rifle

Yeah, I've gotta agree with Scoob here. For example, when I shot pistol for Navy we didn't start out on the high end Pardini's/Hammerli's, etc. Instead, we had to learn the basics on guns that were still accurate but not nearly as pricey. Once we got good at shooting did we then get the...

    Commissioning ceremony

Yeah, Club Del Monte could be pretty pricey. Here's a thought, have you considered seeing if you can reserve the Trident Room in the basement of Herman Hall at NPS? For 20-30 people it's plenty big enough, and if you move the tables around you'd get some more space. Plus, I think it's just a...

    Kingsville T-45 Crash

Glad they both got out ok. It'd be interesting to note if they were both Alphas/Charlies/or both. That's probably privileged info right now, but interesting nonetheless.

    NAMI whammy

I believe it's the same for Marine's, but with the Navy you have to be anthro-compatible with at least two platforms to start the pipeline. Otherwise...whammy.

    Proposed change to FAR 61.73

Well, if you've got the money, Bose are the way to go. For my whole 30 hours in a Cessna it was all David Clarks except for the one flight where I got to try a pair of Bose. I loved the DC's but man are the Bose nice, and this was three years ago. I hear they have even better models out now.

    Enlisted to Academy

Like Phrog said, there are usually a good number of empty slots each year, so odds are pretty decent. However, they won't just fill the slots to have warm bodies there, and I had quite a few friends who had to go NAPS (the preparatory school) before getting an offer for USNA. Keep an ear to...

    T-34 distance records

Don't know if it's true or if the sim instructor was just trying to blow smoke but the story he told me was he went from Seattle to Denver, which is about a 900-ish mile leg.

    PCS/DITY Question?

I think your biggest problem would be finding a tow trailer to haul all of your stuff. For a 5k net load you'd need a really big pull trailer with all the accessories. Most companies like Uhaul don't rent that big, but if you look at commercial companies you may be able to lease a trailer...

    Tailhook?

And that's the point (or question, I suppose) that was being asked. I think there's an underlying assumption that yes, there will be a lot of time away from family since this is the military. However, I think he's trying to gauge what could play in down the road wrt his family. If he was trying...

Another reason to avoid the Norfolk

Isn't 15 over the limit considered reckless driving? I believe it is a felony in most states. I could see some justification for heavy fines, compare it to the fines imposed for other felonies (i.e., dui).
  25. insanebikerboy

    Tailhook?

The way I read e6's post was that if he had to bottom line choose between the Navy and his family, he'd stick with his family. I'd say that's different than dealing with the standard deployment/etc. Different strokes for different folks I guess, but I too see no harm in asking how a platform...

Stunt Plane down at NAS Oceana

I'm up here for the show and saw him go down. They were so low he didn't have any time to bail out. As bad as the crash was, it was really tough seeing the rest of the team coming back to land. The show is still going on, the air ops said the Geico guys are taking off, understandably.

Well, despite the name Airwarriors, this is primarily a Naval Aviation forum, so I'd expect there'd be some bashing of other services, whether it be warranted or just good natured fun. Welcome to the site, read through some of the old posts, and you'll probably get a good idea of the...

    Grad school in the Navy

I did a one year NPS degree, took an average of 16 credit hours per quarter. That wasn't too bad, but that was an in-house degree, so that would probably suck if I'd done it on the side.

    New "Supe" setting new policies

I think that would depend on which part of Annapolis you're talking about. DTA, hell yeah, the mall, a good bit, Harbor Center was growing in popularity when I was there but I doubt too much. Granted, that's not the whole town, but when you look at the bartabs mids could throw down during the...

    Personal Firearm - Suggestions?

The way I like to look at it is with proper care a gun will last a lifetime, literally, so if you divide that $700-800 for a new H&K by the next 80 years, that's only about $10 a year. Pretty cheap in my opinion!

    Target pistol reccommendations?

My suggestion would be a Ruger Mark III Target. You get adjustable sights, a long barrel for a .22 pistol (almost 7 inches) and it's got a really reliable action. The 22/45 is nice because you still get a feel for holding a full size framed pistol but put .22 rounds down range. When I shot...

    TIMS Tips and Tricks

Well, a 1.2 to a 1.5 would be a raise, and if you have a 1.5 you'd be damn near an 80 :icon_tong You can probably expect a drop of 0.05-0.08. That would depend a lot on forms, since if you do good at those you can rock some high scores on that. RI's are tough on the ratio just because MIF...

How different are Helo Pilot licenses?

The way Pensacola Aviation is running it now is they let you take the class/test anytime you want, even before winging. You pass, finish up the syllabus and then take your logbook back to them and they process your licenses. Makes it easier instead of having to worry about it after winging.

    New "Supe" setting new policies

Here's one. Back when I was a mid and they still held pep rallies, I was the guy who shot the cannon off the roof of Bancroft. One week they asked me if I could set up a rappel point off the top so Fuque could rap off as a kick off for the pep rally. We set up the points, run through it and...

    Becoming an airline pilot?

Food for thought, if you're so dead set on flying overseas, don't give up the idea of helos either. From your posts it sounds like you're more interested in getting a job overseas instead of flying a specific platform. Nowadays a lot of companies are doing a lot of stuff all over the world with...
