Anthropometric issues (are you too big or even too small or...)

That bkl of 26.5 would put you over the limit for jets, the T45 specifically, but it is nowhere enough to keep you from being a pilot in another platform. You hit the best method to make it smaller, just drop some weight. Also, the NOMI measurements are a lot more accurate, so you may not have...

    Spin Training

Considering you said "fuel in the tanks is only going to affect the aircraft about the long axis", I assumed you meant the longitudinal axis, which it wouldn't, but yeah, otherwise same same.
  3. insanebikerboy

    Spin Training

Think about trimming the ball, if it's out of trim (unbalanced on the vertical axis), you'll get a fuel split between the tanks. A movement about the vertical axis is defined as a yaw. A spin is induced by providing a yawing moment at the time of a stall, which in turn stalls one wing more than...

    Aerobatics in P-cola

Anyone know of FBO's or airports or schools in the Pcola/Mobile/Destin area that have aerobatic planes for rent? Seeing as I'm flyin' the H-57 now, it's kind of hard to fly upside down, and that was my favorite part of primary! Thanks.

Internets while deployed on the boat

I have no idea about Iraq, Qatar, etc, but when I was in SE Asia I saw a lot of guys who had Cingular phones with the service chips. I can't remember the specific name of the chip but it's the little one in the back of most Cingular phones, under the battery. Anyways, just buy a chip from a cell...

    Radio Work

I got a lot of 5's for radio procedures in primary for making the comms as short as possible. The funny thing was that my first four fams I wanted to give a dissertation on the radios, but it just kind of clicked after Fam 4. Doing stuff like what Dmitri said "8,000/120/10 min", and other things...

What not to do at OCS

Hey, but what's fair about integrity and lying? I've done and will tolerate a lot of stuff but being a liar isn't one of them, especially in the military. If they indeed lied they should've been kicked the f*uck out of OCS, no questions. We had a guy when I went into boot camp, lied on some...

Is it just me, or are the PRT standards a little imbalanced?

There's a reason they call it the 3 mile club.

Is it just me, or are the PRT standards a little imbalanced?

I have to admit that I can understand the differences in the pt scores for men versus women. I'll also admit that I used to think that it was a bunch of crap that the minimums were different. That all changed when I started seriously running triathlon, especially Ironman distance tri's. I...

    the ole hammy

Well, if we're on the alternative therapy kick, when I played football we would use horse liniment (the stuff for racing horses) for any pulls/strains/etc. Then we'd wrap a brown paper bag around the applied area and let it do it's magic. Worked like a charm, it was some strong ass stuff.
  13. insanebikerboy

Is it just me, or are the PRT standards a little imbalanced?

For some people the pushups are the cake exercise while the situps/run are harder. Just depends, I think it's pretty fair, just work on your weak area to raise the score.

    Back question for sna slot

Schnugg, they'll have to cut the weight to 235 to start API. I had to drop about 15 pounds when I checked into the pool last summer, plus I had to sign every waiver imaginable for ejection seats, stroking seats, etc. I believe the fleet limit is 245, but to start the pipeline is 235. There...

Navy Doc charged with sex tapes.....

Is the NAVY in demand for Supply Officers?

Too bad you haven't seen the rest of the supply community, because from your post it sounds like one experience has jaded your entire point of view. As for the flight suit issue, tankers (and other fighters) in Iraq need the protection from burns more than the flight student who is in API...

    Kneeboard suggestions

I've got big legs so the stock one put my hand too far up the stick in the -34 than what I liked, so I used the 9G. We'll see about the -57, but I imagine it'll be similar.

    fixed wing vs. helo

Gator, good point, I worded that a poorly. It is about perspective. To the OP, let me rephrase, everyone I know has been finishing primary, heading off to advanced, and is still trucking along towards wings. That in mind, it may be a little bit of a different route than they wanted, but (me...

    Man Buys Sea Harrier

While I can see your point, I think (this is me thinking, so my head hurts now) that the FAA's/big brother's point of view is it's easier to strap bombs and rockets on an ex-fighter plane than on Bubba's Cessna 172 (black market supplies, etc).
  27. insanebikerboy

    Buy or Rent????

+1 on that. Homeowners insurance has been going up a good bit down here with the hurricanes, especially the closer your house is to the water.
  28. insanebikerboy

    fixed wing vs. helo

The way we phrased it when we had selection was that we were "getting selected" instead of it being "our" selection. The past few weeks most people haven't been getting what they've wanted so that seems to fit, at least for now.

    Tailhook?

It'll be on the cards for whoever selects after it starts. So, guys right now who are close to finishing up are right on the bubble. I.e., select E2/C2 this Thursday and say the tailhook choice goes into effect 1June, you stay E2/C2. Vice versa too, select after the *possible* 1June date, you...

Again, the word I got was 1June. However, the best way to look at it is "soon".

    Florida just wants some love

Just give it another few elections and we'll start seeing primary's happen right after the previous president swears in. I think it's retarded people are campaigning/debating/having primary more than a year in advance.
  35. insanebikerboy

    Tailhook?

E2C2 isn't that large to begin with, so it's not like they'll need to lower it to get more people in. Plus, since it's another selection at the end of phase I, the studs will get exposure to the E2C2 guys (there aren't many of those guys in primary) which might change their decision on pipeline.

How hard is it to become a pilot?

That's the best point to take away from here. Apply, go to flight school, do your best, hope that there's a jet spot. 99 times out of 100 if you're first you'll get your choice, but the needs of the Navy matter more so you may end up flying what they tell you to fly. As for it being the top...

VFA-213 first to receive dual cockpit JHMCS

Big learning curve? I'd imagine once you get used to it that it'd be an amazing help, but I couldn't imagine going from gauges and a HUD to that helmet (not that I can imagine a HUD either, but I'll try:icon_tong)

    Many ChemE's in NUPOC?

Good thing to mention. You could have the knowledge to physically build your own reactor, but that doesn't mean much for the tests. Not only do you have to know the material, you have to know the material for the tests word for word, from the book the Navy gives you, and it's not a multiple...

Military passports? I've traveled on my official passport quite a bit but I've never heard of a military version, just diplomatic (black), official (red), and civilian (blue). Of course, that doesn't preclude the fact that the ticket agent could have been an idiot and just assumed...

Quick Question about Passports and 2/C Cruise

There might be a bit of a distinction to make here. If you're traveling on commercial air, I would highly recommend getting a passport as the chance exists to stopover in other countries that may not have a SOFA with the US (i.e., quite a few of the south-eastern Asian countries). That said...
