    Practical shooting question

That's something I was skeptical about when I first started shooting pistol competitively, but it's one of the better things I learned. It may feel weird, but just put a piece of tape over your non-shooting glass. Your eyes will thank you for the reduced stress, so you'll be able to see the...

    CURRENT Wait for API

Anyone who gives you a "current" wait time for API right now won't be able to give you any idea of what the wait is gonna be in 6 months. People can and may get it close but honestly you won't know till you actually get down here. Ask again in October/November and you'll get a much better...

    Practical shooting question

Trigger control is much more important for longer distances with a rifle as well. What you may have unconsciously gotten away with at 50 will start to magnify at 100 yards. Sight alignment and trigger control are your two first steps to sub 1" MOA. Nice, easy squeeze, the hammer falling should...

    Q about David Clarks

I thought you had to swap either the mic or use a plug adapter on the H10-76's since they are low impedance and civilian aircraft are higher impedance? Either way, I've used them and they are quite comfortable.

API Coming Soon To a Theater Near You

Totally depends on the instructor(s). My specific instructors were strict but not stroke-Nazi's. However, I saw other instructors that would pull you out for the slightest mistake. That was last summer/fall.

    overseas deployment question

Yeah, just being an a$$, but what llnick said. HC-4 just pulled back from Sicily so that sweet spot is gone. I think other than those all that's really left for a Navy guy is a random C-12 gig at an embassy, or maybe a pilot exchange tour with one of our Allies. Otherwise, most overseas flying...

    ATG Javelin

Yeah, that was my point. Some rich dude buys one and probably puts as many hours on his plane in a year as a squadron would in a month. So, airframe inspections/engine inspections/etc, would be a lot fewer and further between, hence less money needed to fund the addiction.
  14. insanebikerboy

    ATG Javelin

What about flight time itself? The number of hours put on the airframe daily/weekly/etc, would be a lot higher for a military jet than a civilian version, which I would think also makes a huge difference in the maintenance reqs.

I doubt you'll be getting a projected anymore since TIMS is in place. They may be able to take a swag at it but I doubt it. Should I write NOMI?

Excellent reason why you should always make copies of stuff that may be abnormal in your record. The run-of-the-mill annual flight physical, probably not, but if you've got a waiver or something similar I'd recommend making a copy and putting it in a safe place.

    Extra DLA

If DFAS/PSD goofs and pays you in a lump sum for anything and you don't rate it, they will usually take it back out in a lump sum. Getting married during flight school

There's usually a week to 10 days off, that can vary year to year. I think this past Christmas was 10 days, and that encompassed Christmas day and New Years Day. I have heard that in years past they've required you actually have the leave days on the books, other years you have the chance to go...

    Getting married during flight school

A buddy of mine just got hitched yesterday, and he's in the middle of helo ground school. Granted, no honeymoon for them, but my point is he was given the time off (four days) to get married. As for me, it'll be over three years since I got married before we can even think about taking our...

Anyone use their GI bill to get a multi-engine rating?

Can you use your time in the 60B for the multi-engine rating? Or does the distance between the engines (or lack thereof) make that time not count to the FAA for a multi rating?

Despite the common idea that Mids are a bunch of bottom feeders, they are (or should be) afforded several courtesies similar to being a commissioned officer. That doesn't mean be a dick about it, but being grouped with the O's shouldn't come as a surprise.

Don't even worry about it......ever. Seriously. The past few weeks hammered home the point that your score doesn't really matter, except for the jet minimums, and the Navy has it's own view on things. Not trying to sound sarcastic but that's just the way it happens, the Navy has spots that...

    Bad day in the sim

I dunno how much each instructor clears, but when we checked into the squadron they kept saying the sims cost the squadron around $800 for each one (the full motion helo sims). So, figure you can have 6 of those per block, 15 times a day, that adds up.

    Getting the billet...Questions

Dude, at USNA, if you've got some free electives, take something you want to take and will enjoy. You'll have a more than sufficient background for API and whatever else may come along. If you can make your ac load less painful, do it, and that in turn may help that gpa of yours.

    Space Available flights

I used the spacea.net several times, it's got a good bit of info on it. Plus, it's usually a lot easier to Space-A once your overseas than getting a flight from CONUS to somewhere. What percent get winged?

That notwithstanding, I still say flight school is more of an issue of time/stress management than anything else. True, some people just don't have the coordination to fly, as well as some just can't memorize stuff, but in a learning sense everything is spelled out exactly, so if you organize...

I dunno, personally, I think flight school so far is a lot easier and runs just the same as all the other Navy schools I've been through (do it exactly the Navy way, no way else allowed), and gotta agree with the pump, not filter, comment. If it was a filter, I'd think there should be a lot more...
