    NFO To Pilot Transition Question

There can be, but it's dependent on the skipper's decision. It's not an automatic or guaranteed change just because you're first.

How Are Mustangs Viewed In the Officers Ranks?

I don't really care about being the whole Mustang bit. It is interesting to hear what the different "requirements" are, as my great uncle (a former HMC turned chaplain during the 60's and 70's) constantly refers to me as such, and I'm nowhere near the time limits some listed. Anyways, just to...

    TRSA question

I've never heard anywhere during my stint in the pipeline that we have to treat it like a Charlie. Instead, it's that we have to participate in the TRSA, i.e., get radar following/advisories and the like. Oh, and fwiw everything I've heard about TRSA's is "will", not "shall". I remember...

Choosing NFO or pilot pipeline (+ bonus: High Flight Threadjack)

Scuttlebutt from some of the Marine instructors is that guys in Afghanistan are flying higher than 10k w/o O2. I suppose they've gotten a waiver for that for operational necessity and that those flights probably aren't over 10k for an extended time.

    PCS/DITY Question?

I've got an 80, at least that's the frame. The parts on it range from a 75 up to a 93. As much crap as the wife gives me, I'll never get rid of this thing! For a partial DITY, say for example your expected pay out based on the Navy's tables/calculators is $700. Now, you drive some sort of...

    PCS/DITY Question?

The one time that the gas receipts do matter is if you use more gas than they think you'll use. In that case, you'll get back all of what you paid, but you won't "make" any money in the deal. Reference; me and my Jeep CJ-7 driving 3000 miles from Maryland to Monterey. Needless to say, 12-14 mpg...

Class E surface area extension to airport

And I think that's where the beef is coming from. I agree totally that it makes sense to keep clear, that if approach says stay clear, it's not unreasonable to fly 5 miles to the east. However, since it's E, the guy doesn't have to talk to approach so he wouldn't know of any traffic conflict...
  10. insanebikerboy

Class E surface area extension to airport

Right, but it's usually approach that clears someone for an approach, tower just clears people to land. In this case, it appears as if Palomar has received authority to clear people for an approach and to land, so that's why I wonder why the airspace shouldn't be D. As HH-60H said, bad headwork...

Class E surface area extension to airport

I haven't shot many, but I have shot a few and I totally agree about being established when going in. I guess that gives a good reason as to why the tower has control over the extension area, as having to intercept close to the runway is a pain. On the flip side though, if the tower has control...
  12. insanebikerboy

Class E surface area extension to airport

Yeah, but I think Xnavy is saying that the extension area is VMC, the airfield itself is IMC. If the extension area was IFR, I'd totally agree, but it still doesn't make sense to me that if the extension airspace is CAVU then why the need for the tower to control it. At that point, see and avoid...
  13. insanebikerboy

Class E surface area extension to airport

Yeah, and that's the problem with any legal documents, but taken in the most literal form, that's my interpretation. I said IMC, not IFR. Xnavy's example said the extension area is VMC, so accordingly in E airspace, a VFR aircraft only has to follow VFR weather mins. That is implied by .127 but...
  14. insanebikerboy

Class E surface area extension to airport

91.126, .127, and .173 cover it. The tower (and field) may be IMC but the extension area isn't. Since any VFR aircraft don't have to be talking to anyone they don't need permission to go through there, and .127 specifies communication only when passing within 4 miles of the airport. The...

That's my use of it. I don't really "network" per se, but instead I have mostly, if not all, friends. It's been great as a way to get back in touch with a lot of people who I've not seen since high school.

    F-18's in Colo.

    1. Yeah, it's definitely indirect, but then again, I suppose almost anything could be called indirect support. 2. Not brown nosing it, just calling it as I see it. :icon_tong

    F-18's in Colo.

Indirectly supporting the GWOT I suppose, but gotta give props to the reservists in the HT's. They are usually some of the better instructors, in my opinion. Plus they give a different perspective when they talk about the civ flying they usually do outside of the military.

    Math Through The Ages

Fuck yes. Having been born in the Holland due to my dad being stationed there, my whole family learned Dutch. Our next door neighbors could speak fluent English but we still learned Dutch because we were there and it was the right thing to do. I wasn't old enough to go to school, moved back to...

    Math Through The Ages

Why exactly does a kid have to learn proper Spanish to have to learn English? Kind of seems backwards to me. Plus, they're kids so it's been proven they can learn a language easier (as a whole), so why take two steps when you can get there in one?

    Point Paper/Letter Re: Aviation Greens.

Just a hunch, but it's probably not gonna be an email but an actual letter (hence the title of the thread). Plus, what's the worse they can do, say no? Hell, if there's enough support they may actually change the plan and keep it around. I know I'm just getting close to getting my wings but to...

    LEGAL performance enhancing dietary supplements

Double edged sword here. I don't have a link but a thread earlier talked about it, I believe scoober78 put a link up that has the regs for aircrewman. The long and short, some of the stuff like creatine isn't "illegal" for the average Joe for a whiz quiz but it's on the list of prohibited...

    Navy/Air Force Aero Club's

    Navy/Air Force Aero Club's

I wonder if these flying clubs are gonna try and snap up a few T-34C if/when the T-6 transition happens? I would imagine that would positively influence membership to some extent.

T-6's starting to show up at Whiting?

The short break in the T-34 was pretty cool, got it shown to me by a cool onwing and then when we flew again I got to do it. Happened quick but was a lot of fun.

T-6's starting to show up at Whiting?

So on the way into work this morning I saw 6 or 7 T-6's sitting out on the primary flight line and then leaving this afternoon saw two separate 2-plane sections flying the break. Not only was it cool to see the planes break at what *looked* like 90 degrees, but they were hauling ass too. I just...

    Arabic and Chinese

That brings up a good point about languages in general, or at least level III languages. I saw it all day long with Thai when I was there, but the stuff you learn from books/schools/Rosetta Stone/etc doesn't translate too well into the street language. Hell, we had a guy who went to DLI for Thai...

    Speed

Because if you get pulled over for speeding, they look at how fast you were going. From what I've seen, 110 isn't quite fast enough. Now, the guys I've known who got jets had been clocked at least 120. So, next time you get a ticket you'll just have to work harder to get that much faster. That...
