The heat and humidity at OCS

I subscribe to Men's Health, but to me a lot of their "studies" are inconclusive. For example, this study has a sample size of 11. I would think they need to study more runners to get an accurate result. You may have heard this before, but go with what works for you.

The heat and humidity at OCS

For what it's worth, pre-OCS, I couldn't run it any faster than 12:20. At the in-PRT though, I ran it in 11:27. I think it was a mix of fear of failing, chasing people faster than me, and the "last man off the line rule" that helped.

Just to throw this out there...IW used to be cryptology, if that paints any sort of picture. Here's a site to do some reading on IW. Enjoy. https://www.npc.navy.mil/Officer/Pers44/InformationWarfare/GeneralInfo.htm Intel's page doesn't have any info, because they're all sneaky and shit.

    So after OCS...

Just to clarify, the 7-10 days they "give" you are chargeable. I was being stashed for OHARP in Orlando, but had to check in at NRD Jax. My mom and brother were in town for the commissioning, so we stayed the night, then drove home Saturday. I checked in to NRD Jax on Monday and sure enough...

    Help with getting in shape

Chins ups/flex arm hang aren't a graded evolution in Navy OCS. It varies from class to class if you do them, and even if you do, it's just part of morning PT.

    Help with getting in shape

You can take that a step further by drinking water. The most underrated thing in fitness is getting enough water each day. Carry a bottle/nalgene jug of water with you to work and you'll drink it because it's there. Also, when you feel ready, muscle = metabolism = more calories burnt while...

    Academy or NROTC?

A hidden perk of BDCP is that since you're considered active duty, you'll rate in-state tuition at most public schools (check with specific schools, as some are inexplicably homosexual about this), meaning you can go to an out-state school and given that you pick up BDCP, only be saddled with a...

    Academy or NROTC?

BDCP is a program that locks you into an OCS class after you graduate. Selection occurs anywhere from your sophomore year to your senior year. You're considered active duty and rate E-3 pay and allowances. This is the common route for college students who decide they want to join the Navy...

    BDCP NUPOC Interview Questions

Just to nitpick here...NUPOC is its own program, rather than being a designator offered under BDCP. As for questions, expect Calculus and Newtonian physics. Also, the interviewers will have a copy of your transcript before you walk in the door, so anything you've taken in college is fair game.

    BDCP And Masters

The only aviators I know that have gone to NPS are O-4s, and both of them went after their department head tours. I would stop sweating NPS and worry about getting an SNA slot first, whether it be through ROTC or BDCP.
  17. Thisguy

    BDCP And Masters

Yes, you apply for BDCP/OCS under a specific designator. You will not be accepted to BDCP then switched to something you weren't accepted for. If you apply for BDCP your sophomore year, you will be sent to OCS soon after graduating. This thing with the master's is throwing me for a loop. If...

    Ouch! ASTB retest

It may not seem like a huge improvement, but adding 1-pt in each section (especially since the max is 9) is pretty good. Don't sweet the 2pt difference in the OAR, as that's on a different scale.

    Unusual Military Patches...funny and otherwise

You bet. I bought them from your geedunk guys during the Hong Kong reception (it counted as duty, but I got totally dicked with boat-o later that evening). Nothing like sweating your balls off in summer whites.

    Military clause question

That sucks...was it those jerkoffs at AW & Sons? Do they ask you point blank if you're ROTC? Also a student could sign a lease, get picked up for BDCP/OCS, then say to the landlord "surprise cockbags!" Some people should do that for spite if they're not renting to ROTC folk.

Umm...I'm going to assume by MBA you mean their undergraduate business curriculum, because an MBA is a post-graduate degree that generally only accepts applicants who have at least 3-4 years of industry experience.

Flying for Navy, Marines or Air Force?

Maybe, but it sounds as if the OP is more interested in using his degree and learning business skills than being a Marine or Navy Officer. We've all heard the sales pitch of supply and how it's the business part of the Navy, but seriously, he could end up as an O-1 on a carrier as the...

    Big Dilemma

Y'know, not everyone who does ROTC for the scholarship is a total shitbag like it's being made out here. The state of affairs is that the armed forces needs to entice people to become officers and ROTC scholarships is a way of getting it done. There are a lot of people who do ROTC as a means...

But are those LDOs SWO LDOs? If so, then there's your answer. I'm a former AMDO and I haven't heard of any ship company AIMD officer getting qualified in SWO. My final answer is: No. AMDOs won't be able to get a SWO pin. The 1520 community has been trying to get a pin forever and it's just...

Pretty sure both are staff corps communities. I'm going to go out on a limb and say no restricted line community has a warfare pin. It sounds like the original poster has "pin envy." There are two things you can do about it: 1. Get over the fact that you won't have a shiny gold pin on your...

    Failed the USN Boot Camp?

Make sure you're wearing the right running shoes. Don't buy cool-looking running shoes from that D-bag at the Foot Locker that wouldn't know his ass from his elbow. Flat-footed (or low arch) tend to overpronated, so getting the right shoe straigtens out your running motion. If you have no...

    Getting In

It won't hurt that your strongest subject is literature, but with any college that's extremely competitive, know that you're going up against students (who under your school's system) have taken classes in the 4-5 range in all subjects.

    NFO transfer to Pilot??

For what it's worth, I don't think they do this. A couple of the guys in my class (circa 2002) came in as SNAs and when they took the eye test, it was basically "Uh...your vision is 20/80, not 20/40...NFO."

    New Around Here

Focus on your grades, and study something you're interested in. A 2.6ish doesn't look very good for BDCP, but if you keep working it, you could get accepted later, or get an OCS only contract. What designator are you interested in? The only two designators I can think of off the bat that have...

    Major Dilemma

Agree with HAL. I went to Navy OCS with a guy who did the first 6-weeks of PLC, but then decided to go Navy. Besides, since you want to be in the military one way or the other, PLC sounds like it beats any other sort of summer internship.

    BDCP a "really sucky program"

For the record, regular OCS guys are considered active duty from the day they leave home (based on travel days allowed), so no one gets shafted out of the travel claim. The Navy has plent of other opportunities to bend you over, this just isn't one of them.

    BDCP a "really sucky program"

CA is pretty gay about it. You only rate in-state tuition if you're stationed there for "non-education" purposes, i.e. getting your education in off duty hours.
  45. Thisguy

    BDCP a "really sucky program"

You get paid as if you were an active duty member, so it's up to you what you do with that money. Nothing goes directly to your tuition. However, one less than known perk of BDCP is if you're an out-of-state resident attending a public school, you rate in-state tuition as active duty military.

    should I retake the ASTB?

I'd say go ahead an apply. If you don't get picked up, you can always re-take it to strengthen your application. In other words, why waste the time and effort to make something better when it might already be good enough.
