I'm 18, my foot is kinda flat but not completely, i use the DR.Romanov style running but it kills the heck out of my shins, dang!

At your age, you shouldn't have a problem running the 1.5 mile. Not to be an ass but if you are going to boot camp, which means you're physically qualified, there's no excuse for having issues running. A 12:30 is for us older types who have had broken bones, blown out discs (same disc twice and two others in my case), knee surgery, etc. I tell ya, it just dissapoints me when I see sailors come out of boot camp looking physically inept.

I'm not driving fast, I'm flying low
I ran a 10:34 1.5 mile on a stress-fractured leg (which, btw, was a f***ing stupid thing to do, but it gets the point across). I hate PT. With a passion. I know I'm not the only one. But its part of the job so we suck it up keep going. If you have flat feet and shin problems, talk to someone about getting some better shoes. If you can't pass, they will work with you. But anything less than absolute maximum effort will earn you alot of unneeded flak.

What are your plans after boot camp when you have to run your PFT twice a year? How much are you running now?

In your defense (because with that argument you need a good defense team) I couldn't run when I first joined. Now I still don't like running, but I can when I need to.

If some form of physical fitness isn't important to you, then I would question your desire to earn a commission.

His question is about boot camp so I don't think he's trying for a commission.

I had a lengthy moto-type post in my head but decided to scrap it. Navy Recruit Training is taught at an 8th grade level and is structured so a morbidly obese kid on crutches with ADD could succeed. Echo Brett's sentiments; If you fail there, you suck at life.

Well looks like you turned out a moto-type post anyway.

If you fail there, you suck at life.

More like boot in the ass moto, but moto nonetheless. :D

You won't fail but you will be given some sort of remedial training until you meet standards. Short of malice, being a criminal, seriously breaking UCMJ it would be hard to get sent home.

But ask your recruiter...

I saw a few get the 'ole heave-ho for being fat-bags, a.k.a., couldn't physically pass the pt standards. Also, saw a few dudes who were huge run on through with no problems.

Have anyone around here failed the usn bootcamp???

I'm just worried about failing coz i'm shipping out on may 8 and i find it hard and un comfortable to run....

It's always uncomfortable running. For me, I look at it like this, running never really gets easier, I just get faster. I'm a big dude too so it's not exactly easy for me...but I hauled my 230 pound butt through an Ironman. It'll hurt bad to start with but you'll get used to it....or you'll go home. Not to sound like a harsh ass, but on this site we're all roses and sugar compared to some of the RDC's you're gonna deal with.

Good luck, just keep chugging.

Have you ever been to Navy boot camp? Just asking the question because for you to say the above and not have been seems...well...somewhat disingenuous...:D

Make sure you're wearing the right running shoes. Don't buy cool-looking running shoes from that D-bag at the Foot Locker that wouldn't know his ass from his elbow.

Flat-footed (or low arch) tend to overpronated, so getting the right shoe straigtens out your running motion. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, find a store that specializes in running shoes, unlike those fuckers at Champs.

BTW, I basically ran a mile when they told me to in middle/high school and didn't run a lick in college. I didn't start running until I was 22 and applying for OCS because I wanted to join the Navy. Sometimes if you want something, you'll have to put up with a little bullshit to attain it.

Strategy for OCS and Flight School

His bio says "Wanna be a Naval Aviator," so I'm interpreting that as that he wants a commission eventually. Fair enough, right?

Not really, you need to go beyond his profile to discern his strategy (ie read his first post on forum). :tongue2_1
