Another new set of Hookers inbound

We got a frantic call from HST AIr Ops asking if Jax can pick up the divert responsibility 4 days early. Big Time on HST said 60 kt winds and 30 ft seas!

Doing research - after action rescue/survival reports

Don't go the FOIA route first; call the school houses and ask to speak to an instructor. Tell them what you what type of information you are looking for and why. Going FOIA right away will not win you any friends since it causes a whole lot of pain for the folks who have to dig up all kinds of...

    Yuma Airshow

As a former MO, I'd be more concerned with the reason to have them on at all unless you're expecting a threat. (Not sure about Yuma, haven't seen the JIPOE yet). Why take them to an airshow where they could get a facet broken...? Unless something has changed, they're a pain in the butt to...

    USNWC-JPME, JMO questions

Unless something changed in the last 9 months, there is no push to get rid of the in-residence requirement for Phase II by any of the services. I could see the Navy wanting to try to get a CDE Phase II, but I don't see the other services, the Joint Staff or Congress buying off on it.

FY12 and FY13 ACCP (Bonus) News

You obviously have never been comm jammed by one P-3 turning over to another P-3 on station, in the middle of an actual submarine prosecution. ASW C&R = Control and Reporting, not Continue & Ramble!!!

    Yuma Airshow

By rule, if the Blues don't come, then I can't have an airshow. If the Blues are shut down for long enough, then they will cancel their Airshow Season (which is CY based, not FY). So, even though my Air Show is FY-14, if the Blues cancel for CY-13, then I'm S.O.L. I'm holding out hope that at...

    Sequester

No one KNOWS what is going to happen. There's lots of spinning and people answering tasters, but there has been no formal guidance to do anything (except don't spend any money). Like others said, don't worry about the things you have no control over.

AT-6 excluded from Light Attack Aircraft

We could use the Super-T ICW the P-8, it will drop the buoys that the P-8 can't because: 1. It's not cleared to drop ordnance yet 2. It will not fly low enough to actually drop buoys Screw it, we don't do ASW anymore, so forget the whole idea...

Possible 44% reduction in student SNAs ans SNFOs?

If there is not an already established consortium that the school is in, then you're out of luck. Trying to get an NROTC unit established takes incredible horsepower. John Kerry has been trying for 10 years to get one at my alma mater with no luck. You can transfer to a school with NROTC or...

Navy cancels deployments, Air Force cancels air shows

The military can absorb this cut to the budget as long as leadership (specifically strategic level leadership) understands that the toy they have like to play with for war and humanitarian assistance is no longer available. I don't mind doing less with less as long as leadership understands...

This is a key point, the Military is not and never has been a business model. The risks of failure between a business and the military are not even in the same universe, let alone ballpark. We crave redundancy and ponder the 'what if' (branch planning) as a routine. We hedge our bets...

Hmm, helos are more involved in combat?

To echo a lot of the arguments: The mission of the carrier today is power projection and helos are not in the line of work, therefore we are still the red-headed step-child of the airwing. Most CAGs I've come across are more than willing to let the helo guys go off and do their thing is: A)...
