    Good Jacksonville Apartments?

Since you'll probably be flying from Cecil Field for pretty much all of FY 2014 (assuming Congress doesn't melt down) I'd look to live on the west side of the river if there is a chance you won't be staying in Jax following your RAG time. If you stay at Jax, staying north of the base will...

In the early 80's John Lehman elevated the position of CAG to O-6 and was called "Super CAG". It allows for wider pool to select for Flag Officers since you had two Aviators competing against each other for promotion (along with other O-6's in the CSG).

What I told my JO's was that they needed to write their FitRep so they could learn how to do it. Someday that JO will be a Department Head and will have to write/chop FitReps for the JO's and if it wasn't for writing my own FitRep, then I would never have done one before I was a DH.

Can you imagine how many endorsements there would be an OPREP for a lost nuke? We lost an exercise torpedo on a range, had audio of tape of the torp running and then imploding and we still had to do an OPREP-3. Of course it could be worse... Imagine being the duty officer when your squadron...

    Automobile to Newport?

The Joint Travel Regs have this detail: C. POC 1. TDY. Generally, 1 travel day is allowed for each 400 miles of official distance of ordered travel. If the excess distance is 1 or more miles after dividing the total official distance by 400, one additional travel day is allowed. When the total...

They could be way behind in PTR and are looking at the weather in Whiting for a couple of months which will limit flying hours at NASWF. Going to Jax is pretty reasonable. Automobile to Newport?

Your mileage is based on a mapquest route from your departure location to Newport. If you go out of the way to see something cool, you will not get reimbursed for your mileage. Keep receipts for hotels and tolls. These are reimbursable expenses. Make sure you ask the hotel for the gov't rate...

Really??: Ten Thousand Feet and Ten Thousand Miles (A UAV Article)

I had a squadronmate who didn't make HAC in 24 months. Rather than facing FNAEB he resigned his wings (he was not going to pass the HAC board and the CO didn't trust him to take an aircraft and crew on his own). He stayed in and switched over to UAV's and progressed. Last time I checked he...

Do you use an iPad in the cockpit? Would you?

About 10 years ago, DAPS tried to mandate that they would not print NATOPS manuals anymore. The "staff" there tried to argue that there is not a need for hard copy pubs so they would just issue the NFM on CDs They we showed them page 2 of the H-60 NFM which states "a copy of this manual shall...
