Vladimir Putin accepts nomination for President of ruling United Russia party

Russia was pretty bold without Putin in power, they invaded a soveign country (Georgia) that was on the verge of joint NATO and no one lifted a finger to help. Russia has significant influence in their vicinity, but they are not the world wide power the Soviets were. If you live in a country...

    NROTC service selection question

I always heard that to apply for flight school you needed a 2.5 in a Tier 1 and a 2.8 in Tiers 2 & 3. I've never seen it written, but that was what I was told 20 years ago when I was applying.

    MH-60S with a M197 20mm cannon!

Each squadron gets a set amount of ammo to qual the number of crews specified in the readiness reporting instruction. (Actually you only get 80% of that amount and when you blow through it, you go back to your ISIC (usually the Wing) and ask for the rest) The squadron doesn't get involved with...

You may like AWG's, but in my 20 years, I've only seen 2 pilots actually wear them to work. One was a RAG instructor back in 1994 and the other was an O-6 here in Newport who wore them just before the drop-dead date to get a last hurrah out of the uniform. Whether they look cool or not, was...

Until we get an Aviator (or NFO) as CNO, I highly doubt AWG's have any chance to coming back. Until we get someone who is willing to say, I like this uniform, I'm the CNO and what's the sense of having power, if I can't abuse it, it won't happen. Or we could try to get John Lehman back as...

    MH-60S with a M197 20mm cannon!

Found this about the weapon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M197_Gatling_gun I know the Navy was hesitant to allow the AD folks to use the GAU-17 because the price for the NCEA was too steep. I can only imagine how many rounds pilots are going to need to shoot to stay qual'd...

    Awesome model of USS Enterprise

Weren't the 500's the A-6's years back? Didn't CV NATOPS used to list what side numbers were assigned to the different squadrons? A week at the longest. Biggest deal is being able to strap yourself into the helo without pain and then being able to move well enough that you can egress if the situation called for it. Most folks tend to do them during the transit portion of a deployment since there is no flying for a week+.

Navy leadership training (Accession and beyond)

So does the MEU just go without the ordnance delivery capability of organic fixed wing aircraft or does it get made up through another platform? Since we can't always rely on a nearby airbase or a CVN to provide that capability, does the MEU just go without? There is inherent risk with your...

New Skipper for Harry S Truman Named

Short answer is No. The CVN CO pipe-line is a multi-year process. You get selected for Nuke and go to Nuke School. After Nuke School, you go off to be the Big XO. Following a successful XO tour, you get selected for "Deep Draft Command". This is an opportunity to be the Commanding Officer of...
