I have been working the entire time and I am in BDCP. My recruiter knows about it, and we joke about my job a lot. I imagine as long as your grades are good they will not care at all.
As a word of caution on that note, the second that my family found out I was going to get a dime from the Navy I was cut off (financially). So take that FWIW. It is certainly not a huge deal, but something to consider since the increased income might be offset by an increase in bills if your...
Ok so I am asking the advice of this forum (again).
I just found out that I have 2 classes left (minor got dropped last minute due to insufficient class offerings in the fall). My command has asked that I take them over summer and head off to OCS in Sept/Oct. At present the plan is to finish...
I started a thread about this today "Space A Travel"
If any other BDCPers want to do some traveling either out of Pt Mugu, or North Island, let me know. I want to try to take advantage of Space A while the living is easy.
Even better than that.... I can go to Spain on the same flight. I figure i'll never have a chance to do the kind of traveling I can do this summer ever again. I want to try to go as many places as I can.
I've posted this before... but about 18 months ago I got a ride in the CANG C-130J out of NAS Pt. Mugu.
Pretty sweet glass cockpit and HUD system. I was really impressed with all of its capabilities. As already mentioned, the loadmaster moves up to the cockpit; no more Navigators.
Space A Travel
Could someone make a thread that could be stickied regarding Space A travel?
I know a decent amount about it, and a lot is available online, but the actual details of how one goes about doing it is very unclear to me.
For one I am BDCP. And in order to get travel information...
I grew up in the bay, and the sentiment comes as no surprise. Horrible none the less... That being said, after going to Fleet Week so many times, I am pretty sure that the Bay does not deserve such a great event. Who knows maybe they will spend the week somewhere else, and actually be appreciated...
I searched with no luck.
The company I work for is buying me a phone and there are two models of it, one with a phone and one without. I would prefer the one with, but at work (well when I go to other sites at least) we arent allowed to have cameras. The would prefer that I buy the non-camera...
Threadjack...
Sign reads: Death to Infidels, Death to America, Death to Israel...
We have professors on campus spouting the same BS. Can someone please drop a 500lb 'negotiating' tool on these idiots?

Call it what you want, militant-ism or whatever... there is a massive amount of it at my school. The fact that a 'sympathizer' with a likely future enemy came from there is no surprise.
I met with one of the test flight engineers about 2 years ago...
At the time, he said the pilots had asked for a articulated cannon (like an Apache), but they they didn't have the room for it.
The refueling arm on a SOF bird is going to be even more critical given the distance covered, I am...
An applicant on this website was using him as his instructor. I had spoken to him about re-starting flying this summer (John Wayne is the local airport), and he had recommended I fly with him. Apparently he was giving pretty good discounts and was a UCI student.
The fact that a terrorist was a...
Have to love a SOF 'helo' without guns. Fantastic idea.
I like the Osprey, but I think as it stands it is a poor decision for this mission.
I raised this concern a few years back, and at the time the AF's answer was to fly 2 CV-22s with 2 MH-53s flying cover. There is a problem with that, you...
You are likely to want to post what it is regarding.... granted this is a naval aviation forum... and from your profile (?) we can tell you aren't "in" yet. I assume this has to do with an application question.
Either way, you're going to need to help us, help you.
27 PSI on stock internals???
What is stock? That sounds like it has a pretty short life ahead of it.
The biggest thing people will often forget is the stock pump and injectors aren't rated for the massive increases people will try to put them to. They run the engine @ WOT and the mixture leans...
For the higher rated gas.... The biggest problem against people getting an advantage out of it, is that it takes TIME for an engine to remap its advance settings. You cannot just switch the gas and have an instant gain. With that said, on really hot days (100+) we used to run 100+ gas at the...
Wow that Super Hind is pretty intimidating. With the huge camera pod/FLIR setup RIGHT in front of the aircrew wouldn't that have a significant effect on their SA/visibility?
That is interesting...
On a tour to the 'petting zoo' at Nellis AFB, the guide said the Hind cannot hover due to its massive weight and that it just lands and takes off on a roll. Seemed counter-intuitive for a helo to not be able to hover, but possible given the things size. It would appear...
If you are BDCP (or prior enlisted) you can take up to 18 days off after OCS to go home and get your things before reporting to API. I have no idea what happens if not.
That can't be true. A guy I knew from AFROTC was from England. MAYBE he was a military brat, or he was born here, then grew up there and had dual-citizen ship... but I dont think so. It obviously makes complete sense that you should be a U.S. citizen though. Call a local NROTC unit and ask.
I'll pick the easy part to answer.
You have to get into a 4 year BA program at an accredited school to apply to BDCP. If you contract you cannot apply for BDCP. I'll let others handle the rest, or you can search, this has certainly been covered.
BDCP is AMAZING.
You can enter BDCP up to 36 months out if you are a technical major (search the term, its been covered), or 24 months prior to graduation if you are a non-technical major. According to what I remember reading/hearing you could NOT enter BDCP 12 months prior, and they would...
Could someone point me in the direction of a site to post some pictures online? After I have a site, I'll replace this post with the pictures from Normandy.
Well the trashbag isn't really going to do anything other than remove water. I'd say doing that kind of cutting that far in advance (7 days) is dangerous. I've done it for a wrestling tourny, and while I am no wrestler (though I am sure some here are, and could explain it better)... I'd say...
For all the people who just read AW for info on OCS/BDCP, figured this might be worth the read.
Using the BDCP money, I took 9 days of leave and spent my spring break pretty atypically. Instead of sitting out by a pool, or sleeping in until 3pm, myself and 2 of my friends went to Europe...
Does anyone have info on the cost difference between the two? I would imagine for a relatively broke Iraq that would be a huge factor. Further, given the 'cheap cost' reputation of the AK im surprised it was not picked. Free choice? Maybe...
Just a little FYI for anyone interested in the USAA Pre-Commissioning loan.
You have to be (this is for OCS, it differs for Academies and ROTC) 18 months or less from commissioning, or no more than a year after commissioning.
No interest/payments until you commission, then it is 2% fixed APR...
Out of curiosity, did the Navy not cut orders for OCS in July (since as was posted above they won't be having July classes)? Or do they plan to just pack more into each class before/after? All of those people (2 whole classes worth I'd imagine) have to go somewhere.
MB, check the poll headline. He included IFS.
I plan to use the BDCP money to get hours this summer, not so much for skills at primary, as much as flying is fun, and it will be a good use of the money. I fly aerobatics with a retired Marine Col. down here from time to time, but that is again...
Having not flown in a 172 I have no idea what the max indicated bank is, but I would assume it would in fact be 60*.
I had thought the regulation stated at 60* or more, you were required to wear a parachute. I was simply wrong. No busting of your terminology.
Wow MB...
I imagine if it will not influence your OCS availability that it should not be an issue. Talk to your doctor and get all the details of the surgery, possible complications, etc. Then go talk to your recruiter and tell him about it. He will have to request it from the NRD CO/XO. From...
Turns out its not a big deal at all :)
Ooops
"FAR 91.307 (c) states that each occupant must wear a parachute if a pilot intentionally executes any maneuver that exceeds a bank of 60 degrees relative to the horizon or a nose-up or nose-down attitude of 30 degrees relative to the horizon."
I searched but didn't see anything on the forum.
I am starting a new car lease, and have only averaged 12k a year for the past 5 years of my life. My question is this:
1) What do you guys average in the military? With constant moves and everything else, do you guys end up driving a lot? Or...
I just met up with my recruiter today. NUPOC and INTEL is a much bigger deal than SNA apparently. Either way, as an FYI the Czech Republic caused me to need to get some sort of brief. It is being determined if my recruiter can give it locally or if I will have to drive down to NRD San Diego...
I was told you have to get a leave chit filled out before you leave for 'liability' reasons. I have no idea what they will do, but probably a slap on the wrist? I was told I may have to get an over seas brief because I am going to Europe for my Spring Break.
Next time I go home I'll stop by and check it out.
Also, this (along with lots of other rare/good alcohols) are available for order from Beverages & More http://www.bevmo.com
So his point is what exactly?
That Boeing is the conspirator?
Or that Boeing in compliance with some 'dark' government guidance wired their planes to have a self destruct capability?
His intel skills are formidable since he appears to be the only one running the story that terrorists tried...
