    Just took the ASTB

FWIW I imagine wide dissemination of the test answers is going to result in another set of form changes. I never saw anything on the ASTB regarding disclosure, but I know other branches explicitly tell you that you cannot share questions/answers or the like with other people. Careful...

WATCHES: Question for all you Aviators

That is the one I want. :icon_glas For now I'll shoot for Citizen or Seiko. Maybe the GMT Master will be a commissioning present to myself. Interesting thread; so many differing opinions on watches from who cares/10 dollar walmart watch, to serious investments Breitling/Omega/Rolex.

    DWI charge.

FWIW you cannot have a pending charge (for the rule it might be felony only) against you when applying. Also, as was mentioned above there is no such thing as expunged for government/military background checks. Even with all that said, I am sure that people do get in despite various...

    Can anyone explain???

6.5 - Go to MEPS and get a Medical Examination. Talk to your recruiter to find out EXACTLY what they will need. Be responsible for making sure it is all completed or you will be going back to MEPS. Further, if you have a prior surgery or anything that would need documentation (again talk to your...

    BDCP = Best Program Ever

I think this might be my first time saying anything negative to you. But finally now you are impacting not only your life, but someone elses. That is really nice of your recruiter to offer you that deal, and I could be fairly certain that if he is "forgetting" to file it, then he is doing you...

    BDCP = Best Program Ever

And... the big one for me. You have your career after college lined up. Such a great feeling to know that when I graduate I know where I am going, and what I am going to do. BTW on the topic of leave, I assume if I leave the country I have to burn up that leave right?

    Kneeboard

I was hoping iRiver would step up the memory on the Clix. They hadn't when I decided to get the Zune. Also another huge factor was that Microsoft is a big enough brand that people will develop hardwire kits for cars (like they have for ipods) which was important to me. Feel free to PM me with...

    Kneeboard

I bet if you take a poll, AW (and the military at large for that matter) probably has an unproportionally high anti-Apple sentiment. In part because the tree-hugging hippies made it theirs, along with hybrids, and irrational views on human behavior (see: liberalism). :) Smilies in effect. I...

Officials: Pilot Of Downed F-16 Still Missing In Iraq

Wow those are really high losses, much higher than I would have expected from reading the news/AW. Terrible news. Can someone link the story of where/how they found him when its posted online? I am going to guess that insurgents took him from the crash site, but thats rather odd since he was...

    Final Select!

Weird, my recruiter and most everyone said I would get my OCS orders somewhere between Sept-Dec of next year. I went to my mailbox today, and there was a letter from the Navy. Turns out I have my OCS class already set, its 05 JAN 2008. I imagine its way too early to start a thread for that...

    Pro Rec =)

Interesting, news to me. Either way, congrats! Decision time, which job are you going to take ;)

    BAH based on NRD?

Yea that makes sense... He said it would be based on the NRD (San Diego), instead of where I live (Los Angeles). Is this an issue to bring up with the recruiter or does it even matter to talk to him about it? Isn't there someone else in charge of pay issues?
  14. R

    BAH based on NRD?

I was informed today that my BAH would be based on my NRD not my residence (for school), or home of record. That seemed odd to me. Is that normal for everyone else?

    The "Holy Crap" List

I was told it was a o-ride for a prospective pilot applicant. Looking for something to grab and found the lower handles. It was reported that way on here, and was argued that is the reason why o-rides are not offered anymore.

    Motivational Statement

+1 to that. I wrote my statement and let it sit for a week. Then, I looked at it again, and made some changes. Right before turning it in, I spent a night going through it for grammar issues. I managed to get picked up, so I guess I can't be a complete idiot. The thought of posting it on here...

    Motivational Statement

I second what was said before, it is supposed to be your motivational statement. I think it is a horrible trend to continually post them on here for corrections or additional 'motivation[al]' input from the people on AW. Can we can these, and maybe sticky this or add it to the forum rules.

    Final Select!

My guess was between 2nd week of January 2008, and 1st week of Feb. I asked my recruiter and he said the same, so for now I will assume it to be correct. I am told that I will get my actual date about next Sept./Oct.

    Final Select!

Woo hoo!!! Just got off the phone with my recruiter, I am swearing in on Friday. There was a pretty large delay between Pro-Rec and today's Final Select, but it's official! Couldn't be happier, thanks again to everyone who helped me on this board.

    You Didn't See Me

Well one gets me to campus, but ill concede is a horrible road.. the other... I could be driving an International 18 Wheeler and still be cut off and merged into. The drivers just aren't familiar with the concept of driving. Its a phenomena known only to UCI (at least to this severity).
  21. R

    You Didn't See Me

A LOT of mine have been from this one road where the lane 1 is left turn only, lane 2 is left or straight, 3 is straight only, and for SOME reason everyone turns left from lane 3 (so if you go straight in lane #2 you nearly get hit all the time). Its a driver not looking issue. The rest have all...

    You Didn't See Me

The day I found out I was PRO-REC'd was the last day I had rode (late Sept) until Saturday night. Too many close calls... it just wasn't worth it. I went out late on a ride down Pacific Coast Highway... Such a nice ride at night with no one else on the road :) Went riding today without issue...

    Speed and Angels

Yea the movie was AWESOME. Incredibly insprirational. Way to get there late James (and my bad for bouncing afterwards my buddy wanted to get back to Newport). Edit: The producer said that they plan to try to get it in theaters around Feb. Either way the DVD will go on sale on the website...

    Gangs in the military

So I defintely should have posted this sooner, but I am currently working on a paper about Gangs in the military. Given that this board has countless hours of active duty available to it, I figure you guys may have some stories or insight. Please keep in mind that if you are offering up your...

    The Future: F-22 and F-35

A certain high up Admiral I met at Fleet Week in SF (whom you know), disagrees. He said that the first squadrons will be only experienced guys in the JSF (at least to start). I personally like Brett's argument better, but just throwing it out.

Agreed. At that age just let it go.

What kind of helo is this?

Thanks for the info, I am impressed that everyone knew what it was. Now for the bigger question, any idea why something like that would be flying out here??? On that note, I keep seeing Cobras near campus/Newport (only 5 miles from campus to the coast) and there are no open military bases...

What kind of helo is this?

I was sitting enjoying my sandwhich when my house started rumbling. I hopped up to see people outside looking up, I did the same, and there was a large helo overhead. I attached a few pictures (though it had already flown away a bit by the time I grabbed my camera). Defintely the loudest...

    qualifing weapon at Naval OCS

So it's going to be a Ruger Mark III... The 22/45 or the regular Mark III? (The difference being the 22/45 has 1911 style grips) Then which model? Which barrel length? Suggestions would be appreciated. http://www.ruger.com/Firearms/FASubType?type=Pistol&subtype=Rimfire%20Autoloading

    qualifing weapon at Naval OCS

What does the qual. consist of? (i.e. Shooting what type of target, at what range, needing what score to pass?) I am thinking of buying a .22 as my first gun for the sole purpose of taking it to the range to learn how to fire a pistol well. Any recommendations (Ruger and Browning seem to be...

    Boston fans in Pensacola?

Well, for 2006 the New York Yankees dropped ANOTHER cool $194,663,079 on trying to buy another championship....meanwhile my Oakland Athletics spent $62,243,079 and went further in the season. Moral of the story: I root for the Athletics and anyone playing the Yankees. The Yankees suck, and I...

    BDCP Pay

BDCP is the best program I have heard of by a land slide. Collect leave, time in service, and pay, while being a student and knowing that your primary job is just to do well at school, and get ready for OCS. Amazing deal if you ask me. BTW for the people currently in BDCP what are you doing...

    BDCP Pay

If everything I have read on here is accurate then I will be getting about that. E-3 + BAS + BAH = ~3000/month (I think it is about 2600 or 2700 after taxes).

Now that the subject has been brought up, and we made it to post 14 without a thread jack... Threadjack: How does military life work with having a dog? I would love to have one, but I would assume with deployments and everything else you would be too busy to have one. Is it a only if you...

    UAV "Pilots"

A lot of them are contractors with a PPL (AF side), the rest are collections of pilots and navs (mostly Navs). I talked to one (a Predator pilot) who said he liked it better than his previous job which was being a Nav in a heavy.

    Manhattan aviation accident...

Boob tube is reporting that he had the instructor because he was moving the plane from NY to CA and wanted someone with experience to be with him. Just the latest .02.

    Manhattan aviation accident...

That was my issue... Poor SA? My thought was perhaps he was flying solo and with his cash had a glass cockpit on his SR22. Too busy flying heads down to realize he was into a building (as the map on a glass would only show terrain and probably not the appt complex)? But the reports on here say...

    callsign stories.

My buddy who is an instructor at Air Force TPS has the callsign 'Zipper'. This was after going on a trip to europe (Sweden I believe). Anyways, he is at the O-club drinking a few beers on a Friday after a long week. He has the habit of letting his zipper slide down as the hours go by... well a...

    Board Results

Ill edit this post later to include stats, but I am currently in the process of moving to my new house for the school year... BTW the results that are out are "unofficial" in that they are not in PORTS but I have been told they are 98% accurate :). I hear the same, that only 4 slots were...

Wow, Lt that is terrible news to hear that your son ever came that close. Good thing you used your training and composure to get down to work. Glad to hear everything turned out ok. Another Recruiter question

I got the same routine as you did essentially. The enlisted recruiter I contacted first said the only way to become an aviator was to go enlisted first. He said that after 3 years they will let you go to OCS and become an aviator (like it was an automatic thing...). I asked for an officer...

Fighting Two Hundred And Ninth Returns from Iraq...

This may seem obvious to everyone else, but does that read that they get to come home for the week, and then go back to Iraq?? If so, thats rough that they have to go back, but I have never heard of that before. Pretty cool of the Cmdr. to arrange that for them. Also, nearly 1500 hours in 3...

I just finished my pre-PFT for BDCP....

My understanding is you need a Good Low in all catagories (minimum). As for SUs, be glad that is what you did worst in. Of the three by far the easiest to improve. You can do SUs every day and the gains will be extremely fast, just stick with it.

    Next board (Sept?)

No clue, I have heard some variation of the above. Defintely people have been accepted in the past month (either from delayed results of the July board, or from the August board). As for September, I hear that they did infact start on the 11th.

I passed level 1 with a score of 1359. The P-3 guys must have had a slow couple days when they made this.
